Did he do something else besides smack down the Patriots?

Pacman Jones.....

Michael Vick

Not that they aren't somewhat warranted, but hes more strict than any NFL commish in the past 50 years. The rules he sets in place leave little to no room for mistakes.

To be fair, he has had to go through a lot already, and week two is barely starting. Give him some time before you jump on his back. I think he's handled the situations fair so far.

Some still think that the Patriot's punishment was not severe enough.

Yeah, Doc, I agree with you. I want my athletes to be criminals and malcontents that can get away with anything and everything and not suffer a bit of punishment. That is the way it should be!!!

WHO NEEDS ETHICS IN SPORTS ANYWAY?!?!?!?

[/sarcasm] :p

You see, this is way I differ from the norm. If an athlete breaks American Law, he should serve the American punishment.

however, by Vick's terrible, disgusting crimes, he did not break NFL "law", or rules. He broke an American law, and will serve time, in an AMERICAN jail. Now, explain why the NFL should also punish him? He goes to jail to learn from his mistakes, and change himself, so after this theoretical change, he should be welcomed to a separate punishment, ala Goodell. Why? If an NFL tea wants to sign him, they are maknig the choice to let him represent THEIR team. And its THEM who pay his salary, and are his employer.

So to recap, he broke American law, was punished by America, and someone wants to pay him money to work for him, and some old man, who neither pays his salary, or is directly represneted by Vic, is giving him his own seperate punishment. Trust me, I'm not Vic lover, but that is wrogn and unjust, IMO

Because he has cost the NFL quite literally millions of dollars? In lost advertising, jersey sales, ticket sales (really, does ANYONE want to see the Falcons play without Vick?), etc. Additionally, athletes, whether they like it or not, are role models, and should behave like it. Or at least, behave like they are not "above the law".

Fair point, but here's the thing. Goodell has NEVER stated that Vick can't appeal his suspension once he's out of the clink. Frankly, I doubt he'll be suspended for much more time than his actual jail sentence, so you're really just arguing about a moot point.

Honestly, I just am glad to see a commissioner doing more than just rolling over when a player does things that bring a lot of negative publicity to his league. Since the commissioner's job is the well-being of the league as a whole... it is DEFINITELY his right to blast players into oblivion if they are making themselves, and thus the entire league, look like gangsta criminal idiots (thank you Pacman).

So to recap, he broke American law, was punished by America, and someone wants to pay him money to work for him, and some old man, who neither pays his salary, or is directly represneted by Vic, is giving him his own seperate punishment. So to recap, he made the NFL look exceptionally bad, he was suspended for a term to pretty much equal his punishment, and news flash: He's not going to be playing football anyway while awaiting his sentencing and/or SITTING IN JAIL. And Goodell, as commissioner of the entire league, IS represented by every bad action by one of the athletes in his league. Since the NFL is the most popular league in America, he should take action to preserve it's integrity. And that does include ethical conduct such as this.

Though Belichek should (in retrospect) have been suspended a couple games. :p

The money he lost is hid own. When he advertises for a particualr shoe, lets say, he makes the money from the endorsement, not the NFL. And when Falcons games are packed, the Falcons make the money.

I'm pretty sure the NFL has a "code of conduct" or some clause that players can't engage in behavior that makes the league look bad. Vick's actions would fall under that. You see the NFL had a lot of players get in trouble with the law last year and so the commissioner is cracking down on that which he should. I actually think he's done a great job thus far and if anything the Patriots got off easy. And it's not just the NFL. The NBA's Indiana Pacers just suspended one of their players for the first 3 games of the season because he was arrested recently. So there's really nothing unjust about the NFL sanctioning Vick on top of any legal penalties he received. The NFL is a business and when one of your employees makes your business look bad, you react accordingly.

Who makes money from licensing the Atlanta Falcons? Which includes Michael Vick jerseys/gear (that you can no longer buy) or Atlanta Falcons stuff in general?

The NFL.

Nuff said.

The NFL is Vick's employer.

If you got arrested for pulling some dirty carp like that and were going to jail, you don't think your employer wouldn't fire your butt, too?
