The Packers are honestly surprising the hell out of me this season. I picked them to win this weekend, and sure enough, they ran right over the Giants.
They actually know how to play defense! Who knew???

Fixed it for you.
They just might be the team to beat this year in the NFC North if they keep this up.

I seriously beg to differ.
The Giants are having their problems right now, to be sure, but they got a mudhole stomped into them, and they were one of the teams to beat last year. I'd say they're still up there THIS year.
And frankly, given their division, they're playing the game right. Frontman is right to be scared, because their current formula spells disaster for teams like Minnesota and Chicago, who have much worse offenses than GB does.
And GB's special teams right now is absolutely sick. Those poor bastards don't even have enough time to look for the football, and they have people crowding around them already.
I am NOT a GB fan by any means of the imagination, but I definitely have to give props to what they've become over a single off-season. They need to kick their offense into high-gear, but that's about all the problems they have. And what's even scarier is.....we know the potential is there for their offense. :nervous:
And Washington sucks. Terribly. They still don't know how to use their most valuable players correctly, because they can't even decide who's going to do the playcalling. Further that with QB problems that they've been saddled with since....well....gosh.....when was the last time they DIDN'T have QB problems?
At least Randle El is being utilized correctly, using him for reverse throws and such, but....well....the receiver still isn't catching the damn ball. In the endzone..........which is problematic.
Washington gets their wins by the skin of their teeth, and they could be doing a hell of a lot better. There's a lot of potential for greatness, but they still get stupid come draft time.

Hooray for Brett Favre!

You should use the Yahoo Gametracker on their NFL page.
It pops up a nice flash window that gives you a live play-by-play. And you can switch between games and look at stats and stuff live. It's pretty nifty for those of us that can't watch our favorite team play most days.

I'll check that out, but there is also the time difference to consider.
It's one thing to stay up until 4 in the morning to watch a game, and entirely another to do the same to keep an eye on a news ticker...

No, your post was very much a jab at anyone thinking they were a much better team this year, which I begged to differ.
You also said the Redskins were awesome.....which is far from the truth, when Santana Moss is running around un-covered, and the QB can't even get the ball to him.
Also, this: "hmmm looks like a glearing recommendation for the Pack"
Is just another jab.

a jab? how so? And how do u beg to differ with me saying "you kidding right?" The way you worded it made it sound like you begged to differ with me thinking they werent great.
I also never said the redskins were doing awesome. I only stated they were just as good as the Pack right now. I never said they were great or anything like that... I said that Green Bay was playing decent.. not great, and that the Redskins were playing DECENT too.
And that was a high recommendation of GB wasnt it... all I did was show that some people, including the thread starter are making this team out to be better then they might be. And any anyalist will tell you that to take the first two games of a season, and think a team is that great is a bad idea. I never jabbed at anyone, I never claimed the Redskins were awesome, and I never said that GB was bad. I think they are a great team, but a few people have insinuated that they are much better. Thats what I was disagreeing with.

Redskins redskins redskins, guys go start a redskins thread, this is for the Packers.
I have to admit, I rooted for them today, that was a game they really needed to win.
Congratulations, Packers, you're 3-0, and you're going to make people talk all week.
And the Chargers really needed to NOT lose that game. Rivers was doing great until the game stalled in the 3rd quarter. He got over-anxious, and their game was over from then on in. Poor Tomlinson still can't break the 70 yard mark....

they played a heck of a game... and further proved they were on the upswing.
He also could break another record next week cant he? I mean besides the TDs.
Their biggest problem now will be that opposing teams will actually prepare for their games.
"They beat the Chargers? And made Tomlinson and Rivers go at each other's throats?? We better watch film this year...."
They've still got a long season to go, but things are definitely looking awesome for them.
I think they match up well against Minnesota, too. Minnesota better be prepared to throw the ball if they want to win next week.
I should also say that up until their goal line runs at the end of the game, they had 10 rushing attempts, one of those being a Favre scramble.
Favre's gotta let Jackson run the football more. He was averaging 5 yards a carry on just 4 attempts.
4.
Gotta let that guy run, Brett. He'll help you get the other half of your passes completed.

Me too Flash. If it wasn't for the fact my fantasy team has gone 0-4, and the math homework I still have to do, I would certainly be able to enjoy the win and Favre breaking Marino's record alot more.
The Packers have been bottom-feeding the league for so long, that I can't help but get excited for them this year.
I mean, they're not beating the best teams in the league this year, but they're beating teams that they would have no business beating in prior years.
The real question is whether or not they can beat a well-balanced team like the Seahawks or the Patriots.
They play Chicago next week, which is definitely going to be a challenge for them, but I think they're definitely up to it. Should be another good game to watch. GB vs. Minnesota was surprisingly entertaining. :)

Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly.

So, all of the penalties that Green Bay had weren't reason enough for them to lose? How about how horribly they managed the clock? Or how about them constantly running the ball when it wasn't working? They played like complete #### in the second half and they deserved to lose because of it. Like I said earlier, you can not turn the ball over 5 times and expect to win. I would not be shocked if James Jones is at least benched for the next game for his two fumbles in this one.

Trust me, as I watched the past few weeks of Bears football.
Turnovers? Bad. The more you turn it over, the more the opponent has a chance to score/stay in the game.
While the Bears didn't get many points off of the turnovers, it stops the Packers from scoring and in essence lose the field position battle. That's what happened to the Packers tonight. That, and as DF pointed out, bad clock management at the end there.
Like I said, we'll see how it goes the next time they face at Soldier Field.
And congrats to Favre again on his surpassing Marino last week, and tying Blanda's this week. It shows that gutsy football play doesn't rely on records, only results. Brett is still an incredible gunslinger to watch play the game; and he's one of the few rival superstars I have to tip my hat to. Him, Johan Santana, and CC Sabathia have ruined quite a few sporting events as a Bears/Sox fan.

An Atlanta team that had Joey Harrington starting, too.
So, when you have Wynn at 13 carries for nearly a Buck, why exactly do you stop handing him the football??? I mean, by the 2nd half, Favre had a grand total of 3 incompletions out of 22 or so passes. You can't tell me that the defense wasn't out of the box enough for Wynn to have a hayday. Why were they handing it to James Jones? Why weren't they continuing to do what was working?
If you're up by that much at the half, you run run run run run the football, with your best back. So they stopped handing the ball to Wynn....and had Favre try and win an already won game.....
That's terrible. The Packer Defense is not going to last very long if they continue that gameplan.

Green Bay played horribly. Washington played even worse.
Both had opportunities, but Jason Campbell's receivers REALLY let him down that game. I think there was something like 6 dropped passes that game. And a good bit of them were well thrown balls.
Oh, and whoever #21 is for Washington REALLY needs to hold onto an interception. I'm pretty sure the ball hit his hands 3 times and he didn't catch any of them. I understand that's why he plays defense, but you have to catch those easy interceptions.
Green Bay ran the ball fairly well at the end there.
Campbell's problem is, and ever shall be, that he doesn't have any height to his receivers at all, and he throws his deep balls with very little arc at all.
I'm shocked to see that he doesn't get 5 interceptions a game, that way.
But in any case, I don't think Santana Moss or Randle El got to play at all today. Packers' defense pretty much shut them both down. Moss was only in the game long enough to fumble....

Well whats he supposed to say? "Aaron Rodgers is amazing, he was incredible I hope to one day give birth to his children?" Brett Favre is far from egotistical. Romo however, sucks at faking humble.
He's supposed to say, "Aaron played well, I think he'll do fine for our team the rest of the season."
Regardless if it's true or not. That's just standard etiquette. Every football player with one iota of tact will say that about their backup, when they go down. It definitely should be called to attention that Favre didn't.
I was lucky enough to watch the game last night, and I wasn't impressed with his reactions to Aaron's play (never a single word of encouragement on the sidelines, nor advice). I discarded it, because obviously his mind was also on his arm and numb hand. But after hearing the post-game comments, I'm having a hard time not drawing all the bad conclusions about his character at the moment. :ermm:

HOW BOUT THEM PACKERS! I was at the game today. One of the greatest experiences of my life. We (packer fans) completely out numbered the rams fan. Men women kids, Jews christians black white and so on, we may be different, but today at that game those of us clad in packer gear, cheering Favre and the pack on, we were all united as Packer fans. Such a great experience.

My two wishes for possible Superbowl match up.
Green Bay versus New England. If Brady can beat the Packers and Favre; the best the NFC has to offer; they deserve the title "perfect."
If not, I'd like to see a Manning/Manning Superbowl.
If neither happens, let Brett and the Packers go all the way and win it; because then I could see him riding off into the Sunset a champion (and no longer a burr under my saddle blanket as a Bears fan.)

I think he's said he's feeling good to play a couple more years, due to the success of this one. :ermm:
Which, IMHO, is a bad deal for the Packers. But what can you do?

Why is that bad? Not only is he playing like he's 30 again, he's basically the the poster person of the Packers. Getting rid of him would have been like the Bears getting rid of Payton in the 80s or the Steelers getting rid of Bradshaw back in the 70s. It just seems wrong and perverse.
Besides, the entire state of Wisconsin would revolt if the Packers got rid of Favre before he retired.

I want that Superbowl match up very badly. Because then, either way I'm happy. The Patriots shut up the 1972 Miami Dolphins, and are the undisputed best team in professional football history if they win. If the Packers win, then Brett Favre just came back instead of retiring to have the best season of his career and beat the best team in NFL history (IMO, they are whether they win the Superbowl or not), and he can have the greatest retirement imaginable. I honestly don't know what would be a better story for sports.

I'm very excited for the Packers and their fans; and I think we're in for some incredible football next week and for the Superbowl.
Imagine IF the Giants go all the way, we'll have both Manning brothers make it to the Superbowl.
I still think its going to be Packers/Patriots; which will be an incredible game to witness.

I fail to understand how being the poster player makes him any more of an asset to the team. I'm not saying he's a bad QB. I'm saying he plays stupidly when he faces adversity. He gets frustrated, and zings the ball into triple-coverage. I hate to remind everyone, but the man doesn't just hold the all-time TD record. He also holds the all-time INT record.
It'd be one thing if he'd adjust to the game, but he's historically proven himself to be too friggin' stubborn for it.
Favre's doing well right now, but Green Bay is going to need to continue to play SMART football, like they did yesterday. And as long as Favre is in Green Bay, that's not going to be a consistent occurrence. He needs to finish out this year, and leave.
Besides, the entire state of Wisconsin would revolt if the Packers got rid of Favre before he retired.
First off, of course they wouldn't get rid of Favre. Secondly, speaking as someone who was born and raised in Wisconsin, I'd love to see Rogers get the starting job. I love Favre, but I'm sick of seeing him play stupid football, and sinking what is quite possibly one of the best Packer teams I've ever seen. They find a good gameplan with the running game, and abandon it in the next game.
Grant ran for 200 yards yesterday, and he's probably not going to get to touch the ball next week. That's dumb football.

He looked pretty damn good yesterday when the team was down 14-0.
I hate to remind everyone, but the man doesn't just hold the all-time TD record. He also holds the all-time INT record.
He also has the All-Time passing yard record, as well as a bunch of others. The All-time records tend to get broken when you play as long as Brett has.
It'd be one thing if he'd adjust to the game, but he's historically proven himself to be too friggin' stubborn for it.
You must be watching completely different games than I have, because I've seen him adjust to bad situations this year.
As to his stubbornness, if it wasn't for that, that pass that he made to Lee late in the 2nd quarter wouldn't have happened. All of those "Only Brett Favre could do that" plays this season, or any, wouldn't have happened without it.
Favre's doing well right now, but Green Bay is going to need to continue to play SMART football, like they did yesterday. And as long as Favre is in Green Bay, that's not going to be a consistent occurrence. He needs to finish out this year, and leave.
If he keeps playing SMART football, why should he have to leave? Would the Broncos have gotten rid of Elway had he decided to stay a few more years? No. Saying that a team should get rid of a player when they are playing great is completely idiotic.

Favre isn't in control of the gameplan, the coaching staff is. If you're going to blame Favre for that, you might as well praise him for the players that Ted Thompson brought in the past few years.
Grant ran for 200 yards yesterday, and he's probably not going to get to touch the ball next week. That's dumb football.
As I said a little earlier, Grant not getting the ball in the next game doesn't have a damn thing to do with Favre. That's all on the head coach/offensive coordinator.

This pretty much sums it all up. I think Favre being on the team, influences the playcalling unfavorably. You don't. Meh. :cross-eye

Favre can finally retire if he wins a Super Bowl.
Let him go to that big End Zone in the sky, metaphorically. And watch Green Bay go back to whence they came. 8-8. ;)
And Green Bay's GM, who came from Seattle and did wonders there is a genius. Worth every penny.

As a Vikings fan, that works perfectly for me!
That and I really am torn between the obnoxiousness of Pats fans, and the obnoxiousness of the 72 Dolphins. On the one hand, I don't want to see the Pats go 19-0 just because the fans will be completely insufferable (even moreso than they are already). On the other, the 72 Dolphins already ARE insufferable.

As a Bears fan, I want to see the Pats finish this. The reason being is that those 72 Dolphins think that they were better than some of the greatest teams EVER. The 1985 Bears were INCREDIBLE, and would destroy the 72 Dolphins with the BACKUPS. But when Marino and Shula led the 85 Dolphins and beat the Bears; the 72 Dolphins TAKE CREDIT FOR IT, because they were in attendance.

Ten years later, Favre is leading his team as the whily old veteran into the NFC championship. I'd love to see him take them all the way to the Superbowl.

Better hand me a handbasket, because I'm about to go "down south."
The Packers tonight played horribly. Favre was apparently channeling himself from '04 instead of '94. If Favre does retire after this game, it's a horrible way to go out.

First off, the Packers deserved to lose. No doubt. They could've won. They had Lambeau and the mystique. They had the "no field goal has ever been made over 40 feat in the playoffs @ Lambeau" thing, too.
Didn't matter.
Giants shot themselves three times in the foot (2 x field goals, 1 fumble on the INT) and the Packers still couldn't get it going.
Credit the Giants D. They played phenomenal tonight. That's not to say that Green Bay didn't put up a good fight on D, too. They did.
But at some point, they were just too aggressive. They gave the Giants 2 first downs on penalties for that first TD drive.
Anyway, no worries backPackers. Favre will be back. Like a bad penny. ;)
