View Full Version : DBZ Mafia Signups!!
Well, it's about time I got one of my own up and running.
This mafia game will be run in the world of Dragonball Z. There are a ton of characters to choose from, and a lot of different ideas that can be used for it.
I'm planning on running this sometime in mid-october. I'm going to strategically start it when one or two other games stop, and only one or two other games are starting.
And I'll only be playing a few games at that time, so I should be able to commit more time to this.
I've drawn up a few roles so far, but I have plenty of time to draw up the rest. The characters I want to use are already selected, it's just a matter of figuring out the roles dispersion.
In any case, go ahead and sign up now, so I can get an idea of how many people we'll have.
As for a maximum amount of players, I'm thinking 35-40 is a good limit. We should be able to accommodate a game of 30, though.

Thawmus, I won't lie - I know -nothing- about DBZ (other than it takes like four episodes for a shot to be fired :) ) but out of respect for you, count me as signing up for this.

It takes half a season for a bomb to go out.
For those that did watch it, remember the Freeza saga? I swear Goku had that Spirit bomb in the air for 20 episodes.

Well this is like my 20th one but what the hell, I'm in.
For the record, the Spirit Bomb lasted for 5 full episodes during that saga.
Which was so stupid, since Frieza barely got hurt from it at all.

I remember reading somewhere that it was actually supposed to end at the Frieza Saga, but that it was so popular, they kept it going into the Trunks saga and beyond.

Yeah, and then it was supposed to end at the...y'know....end....but the lure of money got the writer to write up DBGT....which was absolutely horrible.
We're going to seriously need more people for this.
Even if you're not a fan of DBZ, this is going to seriously be a lot of fun, guys. And we won't be starting this until quite a few other games have ended.
I've got 24 roles made so far, and they're pretty awesome.
Still haven't touched some of the big names yet, either. :)

A new play style? Maybe we'll have to be series accurate, anyway. We can talk about voting for 3 days in a row, and about how awesomely powerful our vote is going to be, and then when we do vote, it fails. Then Goku uses his auto-lynch power after being brought back from the dead.
That's one of the nice things about doing a recurring DBZ theme for Mafia.
No matter how many people die, we all know they'll all be wished back to life for the next game. :laugh:

Okay I think I'm up for trying one since I read the wiki entry and alot of the game threads I think I have the hang of it. I don't really remember too much about DBZ besides them wasting alot of air time with powering up and plot lines that didn't go anywhere(Go Z Sword Go!). I just hope I'm not one of the random orphan children from that episode where Gohan visited the Orphanage!

No, that's what I'm saying. Anime in general is a "Love it or hate it" thing, and DBZ is a "Love it or hate it" thing among anime fans. So it already has two strikes against it. :p
The way I see it, you don't have to like the theme or even know about it, there all basically the same set up, it's just the little things from the theme that make it better. And the fact that your a character you really like.

It does help in some cases, such as being able to guess whom certain characters are from the write-up (and then figure out which player is the character so you can determine their "threat level") or just feeling a little more immersed in things.

The rules can be found in any of the multitude of threads in this forum, honestly.
A brief rundown: It's a social game where a few people are picked at random to represent an evil side, or a Mafia. Each round (or night phase), they pick someone to kill. The object of the game for the mafia is to completely eliminate the "Townies", or, everyone else. The object of the game for everyone else is to lynch the Mafia between rounds (or day phase). The catch is, the Mafia knows who each other is, but the Townies don't have a clue.
Your character is randomly chosen by yours truly. Furthermore, you don't know which characters are available. And nobody else will know who you are, when your character is given to you.
Let me go read up on the rules and then I'll let you know one way or another.
I finally found a description of the rules for a game like this, and it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'll see if my fiancee wants to join in on a little lynching. It seems like something she could really get into too!

Can't remember if I joined this one or not. But if I have not sign me up, I could die at any time in the other mafia games so a backup game will not hurt.

I meant that it had potential for me to have fun with it.
Since I'm dead, that potential greatly decreased. This is in no way your fault, I'm just saying I was having fun in your game and I wish I hadn't died.

I know how you feel. I want so much to get...well, that would probably be unfair of me to say (as it would let people know who likely -didn't- make it into the game)...certain characters into the BtVS game but it's -just- short of them. :(

Yeah. It just seemed like, I get back from work, and WHAM 80 new pages its like...yeah...No.
Smash is more managable, and Im actually keeping tabs on things. Dont want to say more than that though. ;) ;)
Plus in ONE WEEKS TIME Ive got TWO WEEKS OFF. Which is plenty of time to read any plathora of stuff, that happens.
Who knows I might even pwnage.

I'll jump in this game. My son used to watch this Dragon Ball Z, which any parent knows, means that I used to watch it with him. My wife hated all of the storylines, characters, dialogue, etc. but I found it entertaining. This game should be fun.
Good luck. I begged for just a couple more in my game and never got them.

I know, but it's all about timing. Right now, I don't have anything else going on, and he's planning on waiting quite a while to start his.
I really wish I had joined the SSB game, but I didn't think I'd already be dead in all the others. And some just abruptly ended.... :confused:

I would hit Wikipedia. They actually have some great sections for the DBZ cast.
This one is going to focus on the Saiyan, Namek, and Frieza sagas. I may or may not limit my focus to those sagas, but considering the large assortment of people that can emit a ki blast from the palm of their hand on this show, I felt it necessary to give you guys a "visual sandbox".
Not to mention, give hope for future games.

If you look at this forum, there's a plethora...no...a multitude of mafia games that are finished or are currently underway, and there's also rules at the front of most of them. I'll be reposting the usual stuff at the front of the game thread when I post it. Basically, it's a game of survival and paranoia.
With that, I've got the 30 players we need.
I'll be ready to deploy roles and such by Thursday night at the earliest.
There's a lot of games going on right now, however, so I'd like to know when you guys think a good start date is.

I don't think there is a lot of games right now. and a lot of people are already dead in a lot of games lol. (right now I'm in only 1 game and I'm not soo "active" there. :p )
soo anytime now will be good.
Smash Bros is almost done. Shouldn't take much longer.
Then it's just JLA and Buffy that are ongoing. (I think)

And it would turn out that it only took out the tip of your tail, and maybe an eye. And then it would be another massive fight scene that is supposedly taking place in the last five minutes of a planet's lifespan.
I'd say I would gladly kill you on the first night but being this is a DBZ game I'm suspecting all Night Kill powers take a minimum of 5 phases to connect. :)

That was hilarious. Those five minutes lasted long enough for Goku to knock the trash out of Frieza, for Frieza to power up, for them to knock the trash out of each other, for Kami and King Kai to organize and make a wish with the Earth Dragonballs to bring the Namekians back to life, which allowed Guru to get Dende to go and make a final wish with the Namekian Dragon, which then caused everyone else to leave, and for Goku and Frieza to fight alone, which still lasted for about 3 or 4 more episodes, which was enough time for Bulma to perform ancient traveling rituals and for the Nameks to get their golf game on. And then Goku outlasted Frieza to the point where Frieza wasn't even a challenge to him anymore.
All in 5 minutes..... :laugh:

Not really. Everyone's lost on their first few days in the game. It takes a while to get used to it. It'll make much more sense when you have a role PMed to you, and the game thread is up.

Well I'm psyched for tomorrow and my first mafia game. I think I'll wear that DBZ T-Shirt I bought when I was 8 for the special occasion.
Well, I'd still like two more people, here, otherwise I'll have to ditch one, possibly two roles. Which will mean that some really cool stuff could potentially not happen. If you guys know anyone on HCR who might be interested, be sure and jab them in the ribs, very hard, and ask them if they want to play.

Granted, I was lynched on day 3 for being a Skrull, but still.
