I've been surprised at how little interest there seems to be in this hip hop subforum given the strong links between hip hop and comic book culture.
Several Wu Tang members wear their geekiness on their sleeves with their alter egos. I'm obviously referring to Ghostface as Iron Man and Method Man as Johnny Blaze.

This thread is for us to discuss other hip hop/geek chic crossovers.

Let me start with a mention to the Dangerdoom CD by Danger mouse and MF Doom. That album has a some fantastic tracks referencing Adult Swim. Anyone heard it? Favourite tracks?

I love the Space Hos Coast to Coast and Sofa King.

They're not my fave tracks from the CD (Old School with Talib).

Another superhero-hip hop crossover would be ABC and there roll in the smash hit Meteor Man.

Unfortunately, I never listenned to any MF Doom songs. I should give it a try, I guess, but I don't listen much hip hop anymore.

But, on a related note, Kool Keith recorded an album under the alias Dr. Doom, and Outkast's second album booklet was a comics (the album being ATLiens). Poorly drawn, though.

Has anyone been picking up the atrocious Public Enemy Comic?

I got the first 2 issues out of curiosity and then dumped it..

Man, I just found this!

Speaking of MF Doom, Hip Hop, and Comics:

I just picked up a Graphic Novel by MF Grimm (Now GM Grimm) called Sentences: The Life of MF Grimm by Vertigo.

I haven't read it yet, but you can preview a 13 page excerpt on the Vertigo Website, under the Graphic Novel section.

MF Grimm and I grew up in similar areas of NYC at about the same time (he's older than me by a couple of years), when Hip Hop/Rap was coming into its own. Reading that piece reminded me of my childhood, as it talks about how rap came into being through block parties and such. I spent a lot of time at block parties as Emcees, DJ's, and breakdancers laid the foundations for Hip Hop. In fact several of my family members played big roles in the growth of Rap in the South Bronx.

I think what's great is it's a true story told from a perspective I can relate. I can't wait to read it in its entirety.

Sorry for reviving an old post!

The booklet of Doggystyle (first album by Snoop Doggy Dogg) was a comics too... Poorly drawn once again, but much funnier than Outkast's one. :p
