So, all you sports fans, I'm sure unless you were under a rock; you saw this outburst.

What do you all think? I think the coach is spot-on. I think the way media goes ballistic over college football is insane in this day and age.

Comments?

I thought he was correct in calling out the journalist also and so did some of the other journalists when they clapped at the end. Some of the things she wrote about in that article had no business being there. Most of it wasn't even about football, really, almost none of it was about football. It was mostly her opinion about why they switched quarterbacks. Her "evidence" is based upon rumblings and rumors. I honestly don't know how the editor let this article be published. I'm not defending a favorite team, coach, or anything. The only thing good that came out of OSU in my opinion is my all-time favorite player Barry Sanders.

Here is the article for those who haven't read it:

Sanders was a gift, man. He was one I wouldn't of mind seeing break Payton's record. Emmitt bothered me at the time, as he obviously was past his prime and hanging in there just to do it. But at least he had the heart to give props to Walter (moreso than the moron on the call that day. "Move over Sweetness, make room for Emmitt." (What a jerk for that call, as Payton had been dead 4 years at that point.)

But yeah, I got to give props to the reporters who haven't defended this woman's writing. Michael Wilbon said it best yesterday, "Say what you will about pros, but college kids? Remember the 'kids' part of that sentence."

Barry was the only reason I watched the Lions as much as I did. When he finally fired the team, so did I.

To me it read more like a gossip article you would read on celebrities instead of a football article. I may have to read more of her articles to see if they are any good or if this is her only piece of trash article. It was most certainly not one that should have been printed in my opinion.

What really burns me is that she went on the morning shows whining about the coach calling her out and that she has all these facts in the article:ermm: . Umm, where are the facts lady. GAHH!!!

I wanted Barry Sanders to break the rushing record so badly when I was younger instead of Emmitt Smith. Oh well, you don't always get what you want.

Me too, without Barry Sanders the Lions are not my team anymore (they were my favorite team but not anymore). I've always felt they ran him off, when he could have been the all-time rushing leader. He would have put the yardage up so high Emmitt Smith wouldn't have had a chance to bust it.

Sanders vs Emmitt: quitters never win

They should seriously ban this woman from any type of journalism for the rest of her life. There are some really good female sports journalists, this one blacks the eyes of all sportswriters everywhere.

Gundy was right to call her out on this, as it had nothing to do with what happened on the field, and had nothing to do with criminal behavior off the field. The kid's an amateur athlete and I think the media needs to leave them alone outside of game performance or if they break laws off the field.

Ha! How did I miss this thread?

Gundy knows what's up. He's a man. He's forty! (one)

As for Sanders vs Smith, I agree with Machineman. If that record was important to Sanders, he would have stayed. Smith earned it, whether or not you think he's a better running back than Barry.
