View Full Version : Haloclix, what do you think?

Yesterday, I got two boosters for my birthday from my friend. The sculpts and everything looked great. The dials are hard to turn, but not a big deal. So today, I was playing a game, and it seemed too overly simplified and not as challanging as heroclix. It seems to be lacking something because of it. I just wanna know what other people thing of the game?
I find it to be better than heroclix. Much faster passed, much more offense-oriented, far more streamlined.

Storm I have a question. What happens by set 4, when they run out of charactwers to make. Its not like comics who have 60 years of history and characters to select from. The well will dry.

I wouldn't expect 4 sets of halo figures.
I expect Actionclix to make use of other licenses as well as Halo.

Yeah Doom, Halo is only the first set of Actionclix. The next action clix set is a movie.

ActionClix I'd like to see:
- Gears of War
- Bioshock (just for the Big Daddy pack)
- Unreal Championship/Tournament
- Red vs. Blue
- Many other things I can't remember at the moment

Mickey Mouse wouldn't have a plasma sword, it'd be a Keyblade.

My only real prob with it is you basicly play with your whole collection.
Someone playing a Warthog and your starting team doesn hav a laser? NP! You can switch it out! In fact, that Jackal seem useless? Swap it out for a marine! And that's called "Weapon swapping!?!?!" Er...
Needs house rules BAD.

I'll give you all those points. It is faster and more streamlined. And it's totally offense-oriented. In fact, a game breaks down to the following...
Get close enough to use your grenade and do the big damage.
Attempt to finish him off with your other weapon.
Respawn (when whichever guy gets killed).
Wash, rinse, repeat.
It plays very much like a game of deathmatch which, I assume, it was going for. However, in doing so it becomes overly simplistic and very repetative.
How is the quality control for Action Clix?
How are the sculpts, paint jobs, dials, etc?

Looks good so far. A couple of figs not quite put together (can see the seams easily) and I've got one Spartan that was missing an arm. I've also seen a couple of bad glue jobs too. There is one fig that is supposed to be holding dual guns but just has one (they all seem to be like that). But so far no mismatched cards or anything. And no "wrong base for the fig" since there are no fliers.
Overall, it's pretty well done... sculpt, quality, and paint wise.

Yea, well in Heroclix, there's this one fig, carrying a gun, but has no range!
Tiger Lilly... heh:laugh:

The game is a nice break from heroclix. Instead of having to sit down and think about a strategy , you just run around guns blazing. Its good for a quick, fun game. I personally like this better than heroclix because of the simplicity of being able to sit down and play a quick fun game.

Easy fix:
Limit reinforcements to 2x the number of starting figs of the game, or 2x the number of starting points of the game, whichever comes first.

Finally got around to playing a real game/tourny.
It's an incrediably simple and mindless game. You really have no need for strategy. It's 75% all about the dice rolls.
And the only real annoyance was allt he upkeep needed. Your cards and gernades. Plus finding kill tokens and upgrade tokens. taking time to find switched out characters and thier card blah blah. Good thing the game plays faster cause the upkeep slows back down a tad.
Oh and you can only play with the regular figs unless its a "special event" then you can bring out turrets and vehicles.

That pretty well summed it up for me too, hence the reason the Spartans and Master Chief figs all sport the SHIELD TA now.

Then you must be playing a different game than I am.

THe special powers prety much only come in to play on doubles. Its not like perplex etc.
Having total range means no real need for positioning. Sure sure you have to move around the barriers etc.
But over all every character does 2 damage and thats it. (Unless you roll doubles like I said). Ever fig is basicly the same with some minor difference.
Im not saying the game isnt fun but it's no Heroclix in terms of strategy.

This seems to be the common complaint I've seen, and all I can say is, stop trying to play it like heroclix, it isn't. So of course it doesn't have the same kind of strategy. But just because it isn't the same doesn't mean there isn't any.

I think their next line should include RPG characters.
coughcough.

Eh, you really don't want that.
I'll assume you'd want all FF characters to have both range(for magic) and crazy melee skills(for normal attacks), and the system really isn't setup for both.
Also, typical FF character vs the Halo sniper rifle will almost always = dead FF character.
I could MAYBE see DMC working. But that's about as far towards any sort of Action RPG/RPG I'd be willing to say would work well. Anything beyond that is going to just get hosed, or be too strong and make the game too messy, and with such a nice clean set of rules currently, that'd be really unfortunate.

They did that already. It was called "Mage Knight". ;)

I'll rephrase that:
LICENSED RPG characters.
