I kept expecting a voice to appear at some point (Didn't watch it all-maybe one appears at the end..?), and I don't see whats so amazing about it. It's perfectly fine rock instrumental, not really going anywhere, nor expressing any opiniond or statement whatever that would be conveyed by a voice.

Really? Other then Plant's voice I didn't think it sounded like Led Zeppelin at all. I did find it odd that as I loaded it into my iTunes library it was categorized as "Blues". I didn't find any of the songs to be all that bluesy either. I need to get in a few more listens to decide if I have any specific favorites but "Rich Girl" is a strong contender.

I gotta tell ya....Little Earthquakes through From the Choirgirl Hotel you would've found no bigger fan than right here, but I really just fell off hard after that. I understand the need to reinvent yourself, and to keep it fresh, which was needed as part of the reason I kind of fell out of love with the music is that it didn't seem to be growing, but this whole multiple personality thing is a bit out there. How very Hot Topic. I guess it's just lost on me. :ermm:

(It's also part of the reason I'm big on Regina Spektor, cause she reminds me of what Tori was in 1994.)

Under The Pink is concentrated brilliance to this day though. And "Sugar" is still my all time favorite song. Ah....to be 12 years ago again. :)

Something kinda cool I read about for any Tori-philes; Try listening to From The Choirgirl Hotel in the order the boolet lists the tracks. It flows much better IMO (not that the flow was bad before), and I have a feeling the finla listing was the record companies, and the booklet was hers.

am i just really young or do you guys just not like rock or alternative, and yes pashima im listening to system of a down.
Err, I guess you'd have to share your definition of "rock or alternative." Because looking back on the past couple pages, that's really all I see. I'm currently listening to Ike & Tina doing "Proud Mary." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdg4xeK9F9Q) You might have been a wife-beating creep, Ike, but you had one a hell of an ear for talent. Rest in peace.

Continuing the "creepy misogynists who've worked with Tina Turner" trend I started in my last post, I'm currently listening to the Phil Spector version of Ike and Tina's "River Deep, Mountain High." (http://www.bagofsongs.com/samples/3-11%20River%20Deep%20-%20Mountain%20High.mp3) The first time I heard this song, it physically stopped me in my tracks. Spector collected something like two dozen musicians to create this, and it would become the pinnacle of his trademark "wall of sound" production style. The raw, soulful sound of Tina contrasts brilliantly with the almost-mechanical-in-its-perfection backing ensemble. The hollow quality of the recording makes you visualize the room where this session took place, and the image I always get is one of a cathedral, with Tina, dripping sweat, singing her heart out at the altar. And the horns and soaring voices during that final chorus give me goosebumps. Every. Single Time. If you can track down a copy on vinyl and give it a listen on a pair of good headphones, it will give you a new appreciation of the producer's craft.

ok i should rephrase that to new age rock and alternative, sorry hail_erisRight now I'm listening to Mozart 250 (a celebration). Yipes, I do believe I've stepped out of the boundaries of the music police. Does this mean I've got to surrender my rock cred? Am I not cool anymore? Am I now at the mercy of people who have assigned themselves as the ones who define what's cool and what isn't?
I shudder to think that my opinion is meaningless because I might dare to step outside of established boundaries of what might be acceptable to our sensitive auricle facilities!
Good lord! I just realised I suggested a (shudder) country music artist earlier. Surely it's only a matter of time before I start screaming for kids to get off my lawn and strap my belt right below my ribcage. What can I do to reverse this downward spiral? Should I trash my Jazz CDs? Should I get my nose pierced? Should I go on Youtube and emotionally demand that the media lay off all the coolest misunderstood celebrities? I'm in a quandary!
Oh wait! Here's my Seventeen year old daughter who's favorite artists are Bob Dylan and the Stones. Whew, I just got a healthy dose of reality. Ladies and gentlemen, my crisis has been averted. It's a good thing because I was close to hyperventilating.

Anyone who can't cope with that should find somewhere else to play.

I can quite happily listen to Motorhead and then switch to Shostakovich or Mahler, then Beach Boys through to Elkie Brooks.

I wasn't offended or anything. I was genuinely interested in your definition of rock and alternative. They mean all kinds of things to all kinds of folks.
