View Full Version : Duets Anyone?
Hey all. Id like to see about starting a thread here (very similiar to readyeddys OHW thread), listing as many Duets songs that we can get, very possibly to be used in an upcoming RW TOC (thats Rock Wars Tournament Of Champions to all of you Non Arena guys). Could be 2 solo artists, 2 groups, or a mix of the two together. Whether they rock, stink, or anywhere in between, lets see how many musical duets we can get here (youtube links preferable when you post, though not is just as fine), and well go from there. :)
Easy Lover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9xY_cPenSs) - Phil Collins / Philip Bailey
Seperate Lives (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF0scfQ7_so) - Phil Collins / Marilyn Martin

Beyonce and Shakira - Beautiful Liar (Freemasons Mix radio edit) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56_MStun1VQ)
(This charted higher than the actual song, and is generally better)
Gwen Stefani and Andre 3000 - Long Way To Go (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyVMabW1g3E)
Bjork and PJ Harvey - I Can't Get No Satisfaction (Another cover!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH8wrM0NARo)

Er....yeah....country.....ok...... :p (hey, at this stage, all are welcome, from all genres of music)
Hey, don't think I won't field any Jazz or Blues duets I think of if they come to me. It's just that I don't always pay attention to duets because they usually don't rank among the best from either artist. Country artists seem to have a little more enthusiasm for the genre I think. Heck, I remember an interview I heard from John Mellencamp where he said he couldn't see any good reason to do them. One I like about them are that they're usually a display of respect for earlier pioneers in music. So count on me looking hard at collaborations with music giants (in my eyes) such as Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, John Lee Hooker and any other old timers who managed to knock a few duets out of the park in recent years.

Let's get some Peter Gabriel duets in here. We'll start with a couple (one famous, one not so famous) with Kate Bush:
Don't Give Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6twhsq8Qvo)
Another Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f82ITNM22dM) (why this was never commercially released is a huge mystery to me - it's some of their finest work)
With Deep Forest for the Strange Days soundtrack:
While the Earth Sleeps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euKxarokpvY) (heard here rolling over the closing credits of that film)
With Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (with whom he collaborated on the soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ):
Signal to Noise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdSXvipXxk8)
With Afro-Celt Sound System:
When You're Falling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=em7bk_McVHU)
With Youssou N'Dour (okay, so N'Dour only lends vocals to the very end of the song - they're still important):
In Your Eyes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXyX45A0Alk)
Eh, not sure Id go In Your Eyes as a duet, as to me those ending vocals are more background singing then an actual equally heard throughout the song voice. We have to decide whats background vocals and whats a evenly sung duet. The song Hero from David Crosby had Phil Collins clear as day during the chorus parts, yet I personally wouldnt consider Hero a duet song, really.

You know, finding good nominations for this thread has proven to be more difficult then I thought. I thought I could come up with some pretty good country nominations but my reality is, I haven't really followed these very much. In my opinion, most of the time artists do this they're brownnosing each other. Rarely are they seeking something memorable. Emmylou Harris and Allison Krause are a couple exceptions but half the time they're not represented on Youtube. (Though I confess I need to look harder for Allison Krause.) Some of the collaborations just aren't on Youtube. Willie Nelson with Merle Haggard rings truer for Pancho and Lefty then Willie and Dylan's version does. unfortunately there is no Youtube link.

I love how Townes Van Zandt appears several times in the video. I know this has been offered with Willie and Bob Dylan but I think this is the better version.

Hey DTM, did you abandon this? because I still have some Emmylou Harris duets I've been meaning to post when I have time.
Im really not sure, to tell you the truth. Im sure Ill get back into it soon-ish, though I think for now Im more interested in the OHW and TV Themes threads (especially amassing Nomination List from them for future Rock Wars). Dont worry though, this one not down for the count yet. :)
