View Full Version : Halloween brings Marvel Zombies Mafia! (Sign up!)

Game begins next Wednesday, 10/31/07 on Halloween!!
We have 28 roles which will be sent out over the coming weekend!
If you'd like to play in the Marvel Zombies mafia, please sign up on this thread. I will begin the game on Halloween. There will room for 24-25 or so players. The scenario will be based on all Marvel Zombies comics that have been published: Ultimate FF, the original miniseries, Dead Days, Versus Army of Darkness, and appearances from Exiles and Black Panther.
The game will be hosted by yours truly. This will be my first go at it, but I think we're all going to have a lot of fun.

Not to mention that you'd spend the game as a disembodied head. That would be kinda lame, wouldn't it? Hmmm... I'll have to think about that one.
I'll tell ya - I am getting pretty stoked. Today I dug up all of my MZ materials and between it all we have a cornucopia of characters, situations, and nasty suprises for all involved. I'm having a good time putting it together. Here is a preview of one of the game's mechanics:

I submit to you, then, that it'll be to no one's advantage to go a single day without eating someone at the end of it! So the routine "no eat" vote for Day One could literally bite someone in the rear - hard!!!

Does this mean that the Lynch would effectively mean in the story that they ate the person... cause if so the zombies never really ate the other zombies due to the taste being terrible, so if the town is the zombies as it looks like they will be then wouldn't the town be immune to getting lynched? Not trying to play a smart ### but its just a question. Mostly just bored of studying.

No prob. This is another one of the game mechanics.
Here's the deal - there are a number of players. We don't know who is a zombie and who is not. No one can tell the difference. All we know is that the non-zombies are out to get the zombies. In order to eliminate people from the game, the majority must vote as to who gets eaten at the end of the day. If a zombie gets eaten by mistake instead of a non-zombie, oh well, that's just bad luck - even if they did taste terrible.
Hope that makes some sense. (So yeah, in the usual mafia game "lynch" = getting eliminated from the game. In this one, "getting eaten" means the same thing instead.)

Hey before that was my idea of a joke, I've watched a few of these take place , like the one Mags is running now and the X-mansion and gotham knights. Basically the ones i have a semi interest in but u have my reasons for not participation in.

18 players signed up so far! I am closing the sign-ups at 24 and then starting a waiting list (if needed.) Everyone keep in mind that the game won't begin until October 31st, so there's plenty of time left. If you feel later on that you can't play, you'll open up a seat for someone else.

1. Am I correct in assuming that during the 'night' the thread is closed to open discussion?
2. It appears that most games are advanced enough to be more than just Mafia and Townie. How big are the average townie vs. mafia percentages? How many 'special' classes are there usually, such as serial killer, jester, etc?
3. What have I gotten myself into? I'm already looking over my shoulder. :nervous:
4. How much communication is done by PM? It seems that groups (Masons, Mafia) do a ton of if. Are townies considered a group? I would guess that townies aren't aware of each other. The mafia is a aware of their members from the start?
If you've still got room, then you can count me in as well. Marvel Zombies is close enough to my forte, so why not :)

Yes.
2. It appears that most games are advanced enough to be more than just Mafia and Townie. How big are the average townie vs. mafia percentages? How many 'special' classes are there usually, such as serial killer, jester, etc?
The wikipedia article recommends 1 mafia for every 2 non-mafia, but that's not necessarily the case in the kinds of games you see on the realms. A lot of games here seem to have between 4-6 mafia members. This doesn't include serial killers and "second mafias", usually where someone has the power to recruit people and start their own mafia.
With respect to special roles, just about everybody has some kind of power. It's possible that you could wind up with a powerless role, ie, a normal townie. For example, in TMNT's first JLA game, I got Snapper Carr--no powers whatsoever. However, it's generally safe to assume that everyone in the game has a power.

The mafia is indeed aware of all of their members from the start. Townies are not a group that can communicate via pm, although they are all on the same side. The essence of a mafia game is an informed minority that can coordinate and communicate with each other against an uninformed majority that cannot coordinate and communicate with each other.
Bascially, if your role PM does not explicitly say that you can communicate via PM, don't do it, under any circumstances. If your role PM lets you communicate with others, you can probably expect to receive a fair number of pms.

Kudos and thanks to Doombot 3.1 for answering the mafia-related questions. I couldn't've done better. For obvious reasons, I won't discuss the townie/mafia/etc ratios, but let's just say that I am doing the necessary research to ensure that we have a fair and balanced game - and more than that, one where we can all have fun.
That having been said, the first few rounds are going to be a feeding frenzy, no doubt about it! :p
