View Full Version : Posting After Death: Do We Care?

There's one 'rule' in Mafia games that gets somewhat routinely flouted and I was wondering what we thought of it: people not being able to post after death. Technically there are dire consequences attatched to it (never again being able to play Mafia with that GM) but in practice there are none.
Since it's an unenforced rule, why do we have it? Is it acceptable to post one "goodbye" post? How about posts that have nothing to do with the game? I think we can all agree on posts that directly affect play, but other than that...well, what do the Mafia players think?
You shouldn't post once dead. If they do it once, I give them a warning (and I look down on it). If someone did regularly post after death, I would enforce it.

I think its pointless giving a "goodbye post".
Realistically no-one cares, and you are more likely to give away something that shouldn't have been given away in the process.
It's not like you are going away to India, everything can be discussed when the game ends.

I think we should allow one "good-bye" post, as long as they don't reveal any info/tell people who to vote for/whatever.

If only India was computerless - customer service lines would be easier to call. :cheeky:
Honestly, I find most cases of someone post after death is them flaunting a bit of ego and frown on it anyway; giving away of any game hints would definitely be grounds for banning from my games.

If I ever modded a game, I wouldn't mind if people posted after they're dead, as long as they didn't post about the game.

I don't like to post or see a post of somebody afther dead.
I think is breaks the ilussion.
Like Bruce Campbel say: "Shhhh".
Yeah, if your dead, don't post in the thread until it is officially over. I mean, saying "Alright, sucks that I'm dead, but good game" that's fine, but don't say something like "You friggin' idiots! I told you to lynch ______!"
So it's best to just wait until the game is over.

Thats pretty much how I feel about it.
One should not affect the game in any way after one's death.

I generally agree, although admittedly when I played Deadpool, I wanted to break the fourth wall and have him make random jokes with his corpse. Still annoyed I got killed so early, but at least he went out well.

Ditto. Above all, bow out gracefully and let others continue to have their fun.

I would just want to post one thing....
"why..."
A long time ago, I used to play this Turbo Graphics video game called "Bloody Wolf", which was similar to the even older "commando" arcade game. As a teen, I found myself laughing hysterically every time one of the enemy soldiers would die. When they got hit they would stop, grab their chest/stomach/whatever and look up in the sky as if to as "why?!?!?!" So when I get killed, that's why I just want to say, "why...."
One thing
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all.

lol.
I honestly find it a tad annoying. A few people have done it right, but a few have also given up some insight after their death, which, whether they knew it or not, could have been used as either information or disinformation.
To date, I've only posted one time after death (in JLA 2), and I regret having done it.

I agree it's probably best to not post about it afterwards. Too many chances to let info slip or influence the game.
Now to watch with baited breath.

Maybe we should start a thread where booted off people can go and vent. Kind of like Feedback interviewing those kiced off Who Wants to be a Superhero. They still couldn't reveal anything upon pain of not playing anymore, But it might give people a chance to say "Good Game" or "Argh!" or whatever. Just my 2 cents.

Kind of like what I did here. Yeah, I'd be all for that.

Another suggestion - don't put rep into people's "rep box" until a game is over; I've been darn close to outted a few times by such actions and in one case the mod even outted me -before- the game with a rep comment.

Word. It's the same as posting in another thread about who someone was.

Yeah, tough break rep seems fine. Rep that steers you towards or away from a player not fine.

The only problem with the after game wrap-up is that it is a while if you die early. I'm not saying we should have a "I was unjustly lynched and here's why" thread but" Damn, I told you I was who I said I was. May you all fry!" thread.

I suggest just writing your post after you get unjustly offed and waiting for the wrapup to post it. Sure you'll need to wait a while, but we've all got self control.

And if there's a freaky day power that makes the autopsy false? There's no excuse for posting after death in Mafia. None. It's a matter of willpower and self control, and while I'm aware of the shortage we have of that on this forum, it really needs to be exercised more.

A great example of why people shouldn't post their roles just because they're dead: the Phantom's kidnapping in the Muppets Game and CrusaderC being a false Goblin Prince.

The SSB game is very entertaining right now, and I'm not even playing in it!
