I figured I'd throw my hat into the mafia ring with a Guitar Player Themed Mafia. 25 Guitarists go to a Music Festival...Who comes out alive?

So I've got 25 roles written up. This wouldn't start for at LEAST another week. Anyone interested?

There are some old standard roles in here, some inspired by other games, and some that are a little different that I'm particularly proud of.

It was twenty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile.
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
We hope you will enjoy the show,
We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
Sit back and let the evening go.
Sgt. Pepper's lonely, Sgt. Pepper's lonely,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
It's wonderful to be here,
It's certainly a thrill.
You're such a lovely audience,
We'd like to take you home with us,
We'd love to take you home.
I don't really want to stop the show,
But I thought that you might like to know,
That the singer's going to sing a song,
And he wants you all to sing along.
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

(Sorry, just getting in the mood. :) )

No chance of seeing the list of guitar gods? It would be a shame if Duane Allman isn't on it. Anyway this would be my first game of this nature, I might as well start with this one.

Some of the roles you'd be able to guess from the Guitar Gods I have in the list. I picked some big names and some less big names. And some of the roles I made are wacky.

Hope you have better luck getting sign-ups for this than I did. It was one of my original proposed Mafia ideas - on the thread that went astray :) - but I was having trouble convincing folks that non-"genre" Mafia games had potential.

Good question. Depends on how quickly sign up, how heavy my own school load gets, etc.

But, I can definitely push it back for more than one week, if it works better for you that way.

*Disclaimer: Not everyone's favorite guitarist will necessarily show up in the game. I tried to include a bunch of good ones, and a couple slightly more esoteric ones. This doesn't mean your guitarist isn't awesome. It just means they were too busy to come to the Festival this game takes place in.

I may join, if I can be the kind of guitar god who is so awesome that he can change the physical properties of things.

Such as pointing my guitar at an apple and going SKRIDDLEY DOO and it turns into a hot babe.

Or give me Mike McCready. Or that guy who sang My Guitar Wants To Kill You Mama. Or the Cheap Trick guy.

If I remember my stand-up correctly, I think you may be happy with one of my favorite roles...

We're currently up to eight. About a third of the way there, give or take. And in the unlikely event we go over, I can always throw in some more roles.

UPDATE: If more interest isn't displayed in this, I might retool it into a more generic "Rock" or "Classic Rock" Mafia, adjust the size, change around some of the roles, etc. Lemme know which way you guys wanna go with this, and I can accomodate.

I have the game set up for 25 or so roles, but I could tweak it and make it less. Just let me take a look and see how to pare this bad boy down...

We're currently at 10 players. I don't think I can chop it down quite THAT far.

Rokk_Krinn
10/30/2007, 19:31
Just give us all bandmates - double roles :) - and then we'll be at 20! They don't even have to be "traditional bandmates"; you can pull a George Martin "In My Life"-style celebration and have Jim Carrey singing "I am the Walrus!". ;)

That would be a pretty neat idea, give us two characters and their powers, and let us use two a night.

JKLantern
10/30/2007, 19:35
Okay, with just one mafia and the townspeople, and minimal shuffling of roles, that would be sixteen players. If I adjust some roles, I may be able to get it to less.

Well, then I hate to do this but...

Folks, JK has been great about supporting your games. He's signed up for plenty of them and jumped fully into the Mafia pond even when it was a bit intimidating. He's always good-natured about it and just has proven himself to be a top notch member of the community (both on and off the Arcade). While no one should play purely "out of obligation" - as it'll suck the fun out, I'm sure - just stop and think about how many times you needed those few extra people and JK was right there, how great he made your game (and will surely make this one), and how diversity is a great idea for keeping Mafia fresh (as opposed to just our standard comics/games/movies-stuff).

Yes, I'm shilling for JK so you can point the finger at me but if anyone deserves support on getting a First Game together, it's him.

Hey, for what it's worth, I've started a PM-campaign as well. Just doesn't seem right that you pitch in trying something different and it gets passed over while certain other games from "less tried and true" folks fill up almost immediately (no slam to those individuals - they do just fine - so much as a case of pointing out that you've earned the shot at this.)

He is, indeed. And he makes a compelling argument to boot. We don't really count the Irish and British parts of my family - I think I'm the only one who really even tracks that - too much due to some "bad history" concerning the way they treated my father. My father's pretty sure I'm a throwback because I'm as fond of the Brit part as I am the Italian (though it helps having lived in both places for awhile but, yeah, I'm quite proud of all my heritage).

Well; with any luck, I'll have my computer back up by next week sometime. I don't know when you're going to actually start, but hopefully I'll be on board.

Yeah, I died twice this week. Add me.

My person guitar god is Alan Sparhawk from the bands Low, Black Eyed Snakes, and Retribution Gospel Choir. He is a MN local, but Low has won many European awards.

Might have to look into him at some point. As it stands, though, don't expect to get him as a role...

Good thing I don't have any local friends on HCR, or else I would never live that one down.

Of course, I probably would never live down some of the stuff I post on here anyway...

Actually signing up for Pirates vs. Ninjas. Of course, I suppose it's no real secret among my friends that I'm a dork...

It's not based on the video game (well, I guess it could be in a way) but on the idea of ID's of masters of the guitar. See, not playing the game doesn't hurt you in the least (besides the game is just playing a guitar alongside classic tunes anyway so there aren't any "secret bits of info" to be gained from it).

Up to 21 players! Sweet! I'll be sending out roles tomorrow afternoon. And if we get more than 25 players somehow, I can always add some more. After all, there are plenty of EXCELLENT guitarists I know that didn't make my list.

(Dibs on Jason Hetfield)

Now I lay me down to sleep,
pray the lord my soul will keep
Hush Little baby, don't say a word and never mind that noise you heard.
I'ts just the beasts under your bead.
In your closet, in your head
EXIT light, Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land
HUH
Yahh Yahh

------------------------------------------------------------
Darkness imprisoning me, all that I see absolute horror
How can I live
How can I die
trapped in my holding cell
Land Mine has taken sight
taken my speech
taken my hearing
taken my arms
taken my legs
Living my life in HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
-------------------------------------------------------------

Die Die Die my darling
don't utter a single word
die die die my darling
just shut your pretty mouth
cause ill be seeing you again
ill be seeing you in hellllllllllllllll
die die die
die die die
die die die

As someone who has played both Guitar Hero and real guitar, they are about as similar as Duck Hunt and going out and firing a real shotgun. Unfortunately for me, poor fine motor skills inhibit my ability (somewhat) to do the cooler one.

ok, I looked it up, I am bad with lead singers as not the best guitarists in the group you must have

Kirk Hammett

He is the generous behind metallica for the past 24 years

I could never get the knack of reading music so playing instruments didn't work well with me, I have shot a rifle though lol and I know its harder then duck hunt, I just love guitar hero cause it makes you feel like you really are playing

can't wait for rock band. I want to play drums

Oh on the comparisons, they say the drums in rock band are pretty much on, with real drums sticks. 4 drums and a kick stand for bass. they say if you can play the drums on expert you can be a real drummer. Can't wait to try and emulate Lars Uldrich

Senior Year of high school, I was given an assignment in which I was supposed to make a documentary about a sub-culture. So, I called up a whole ton of my musician friends, and was prepared to do a mockumentary on the garage band sub-culture. I had about seven musicians lined up to play...

Two showed up, a guitarist and a bassist. And in the course of making the movie, we decided to film a jam session. They look at me, "You have to sing." "God no." "Well, then, get behind the drum set there."

It was a blast playing the drums.

I think that's how Ringo got his start. "Hey, we're out a drummer." "What about that kid over there?" "Yeah, he'll work." ;)

Ironically, Ringo Starr is the main Drummer on Keith Moon's one solo album.

People would be surprised if they realized how much the Beatles actually show up elsewhere (not just in their influence on other musicians but, y'know, actually were out playing with them.)

At the very least, I know George Harrison (if not the other Beatles) makes an appearance on the song "Badge" by Cream, credited as "L'angelo Misterioso." As part of a group joke, I wrote that on a random part of my Organic Chem 1 final last semester.

And Joe Walsh and Ringo Starr have produced albums with each other.

And my favorite Beatles connection by far: The current drummer for the Who, Zak Starkey, is Ringo Starr's son.

I have to wonder if U2 would have become "as famed" if they hadn't copied the Beatles' famous "Get Back" rooftop performance but I don't want to turn this into another one of my "Beatles Shrine Threads".

As for some other connections, Traveling Wilburys, ELO and others all had Beatles members with them at some point so, there ya' go again.

My favorite Beatles trivia is that Ringo Starr played Mr. Conductor on Shiningtime Station, the PBS childrens show.
