I was just wondering, for those that have played a lot of these games, do you find it more fun to be townie or mafia, or even third faction for that matter?
And how do you feel when you start out as townie, but get recruited by third faction or mafia?
Most fun I had was as Mesmero (in a mafia), but that was because his role was fun.
It depends on what powers you get and who your team mates are.

I think it depends on how often you end up in the role too (and getting recruited into third party can be a real bummer if you lose your powers or ability to really do anything...it's basically, "Well, let's wait this out and see how long I can survive but I'm not winning this." in most cases.)
I love being a townie. Because at the end of the day, I always know that the truth is, I'm a good guy. And from that, I can draw conclusions about other people immediately.
I honestly suck at being mafia.
Serial killer is alright.

Being mafia forces you to be more alert and sharper than when you're a townie, and it's fun for that reason. It's also more demanding than being a townie, so while I've had fun being mafia, I wouldn't want to be mafia very frequently.
How much fun you have being a townie really depends on the role you get. For example, while I liked TMNT's first JLA game, I think I'd have enjoyed it more if I didn't get Snapper Carr (powerless mort). I'd love to be a cop or vigilante in a game, as those both seem to be very fun roles.

I couldn't choose for sure, ultimately. I think I'd lean toward Mafia, if only because you can PM your teammates and feel that little power rush because you know what's going on. I know I was thrilled in X-Mansion to get Magneto, partly because he was a huge favorite, and partly because my first Mafia game role ever was the Don. I've been a good guy cop as Martian Manhunter, which was okay, but you feel a lot more disconnected. When I was Colossus, though, I had limited PM's, which made the game a more in-depth experience. I think I'm fine with Mafia, Town, or Indy as long as I can do a little communicating.
It really depends on role and restrictions on the role. Some roles are easier than others. Doctors for example are pretty straight forward. Figure out the good guys then protect the most valuable. Trackers and cops are a bit trickier as claiming it early while it protects you for a couple of days, it puts the onus on everybody else to somehow protect the doctor for you. As the Mafia will go after them hard.
Classic roles with twists are always good. Like Vigilante with serial killer tendencies. That's what I was in the Crisis game.

Yeah, I haven't really gotten the art of lying down yet. Course I never had to, the one time I was mafia I was killed the first night and the time I got recruited, another player already knew who I was, so lying would have been ultimately futile.

It's hard for me to say. It feels like being Mafia presents a whole set of challenges to overcome - especially if you get recruited in the middle of the game. The odds seem to be against you when playing Mafia, for some reason. That having been said, it was incredibly intense when the first game I won was as a Mafia. I don't know. I think I could play either and be happy. There seems to be a lot less pressure on you when you're a townie.

I don't really like being in the third team (as much fun as it was in the Mutant Masscre game). You can get killed by the main mafia AND you have to come up with a lie.
As the serial killer, its easier, since you don't have to worry about someone else implicating you. You never seem suspicious because suspicious person A is backing you up. At the same time, its nice to come up neutral which lends itself to more belivable roleclaims.
I like beign mafia...period

it really depends on the role,... I had a blast being the indy serial killer in the IC game :) and being a townie that won the game in the JLA game was cool bc I lived,...
when I was a mafia it was okay, I was the role blocker, had great partners and that was fun,... but the role was okay.
in SSB I was a day cop. that was cool until I died in the second night,... :(
the vigilent was fun but was lynched on day two :(
I guess like JoH is saying as long as you live, its fun :)
I've only been Mafia once.
And we didn't know we were mafia.
So, no idea.
...although, it's not so much fun to be in 2 mafia's at the same time. When I was both Mesmero and Lex, I nearly PM'd the wrong group of people a bunch of times.

I actually enjoy being the mod more. I know that wasn't one of the choices, but it's true. It seems to be way less stressful and I don't come off all cocky and agressive when I mod. I mean, it's fun to let your hair down and just play a part once in a while, but I more enjoy organizing all the strings for the puppet show. That would be why I've already modded two games, and have 2 more in the planning stages while having one in the sign-up phase (Sesame Street). That may not sound like a lot compared to Peers, but with my schedule lately, it's a good amount.

Townie for me. I love accusing people and getting everything riled up! Mafia is alright, but it just feels weird for me. I like being able to track or being able to kill, but be on the townie side.

My life in Mafia games:
HCRealms Members mafia: Townie, then turned Mafia. (Yeah, thats where it broke down)
Arhkam Riots mafia: Townie. Perhaps the most fun mafia game I've played, but thats more because I had a cool role.
Muppets mafia: Mafia. I was lynched on the first day though, so that wasn't fun.
X-Mansion mafia: Townie. Did nothing the whole game.
SSB Mafia: Townie.
JLA mafia 1: Townie. Excellent game. I had so much fun.
JLA mafia 2: Townie. Even better game.
And theres probably a few others I've forgotten.
I've only been mafia once, and I died on the first day, so I can't really say.

In my first game, Star Trek modded by sstral not too long ago, I started out as townie. I was having a lot of fun with it b/c I was trusted as a townie and I could freely speculate with everyone else. Then I was recruited into the neutral third faction. At first it was really odd. I felt rather alone. But I made the best of it. Then I was recruited into the mafia. It was better than being third faction, but not as good as townie as I was sure I was going to be lynched at some point. I ended up being NK by the vig at the very end.
I have to say it was really weird going from townie to third faction to mafia. It's hard to get past the previous alliance. But a great learning experience!

HP Mafia-A mafia member who was secretly a townie. I got lynched on the second day...but I took DocDoom out with me.
