I'm not being slanderous. J.K. Rowling outed him this week. I suppose it fits. But is it a wizard thing? First Gandalf, now Dumbledore. Soon the makers of Wheres Waldo are going to give a press release saying that the Wizard Whitebeard is in an open relationship with a man he met at a Halloween party.

Wow, didn't even think about that. Makes a lot of sense. Do you think the whole Voldemort thing was just because Tom Riddle was a homophobe?

It does say that Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort ever feared. :p

you people are mean, dumbledore was a great character in the book.

The BoyBlunder

While speaking at Carnegie Hall on October 19, 2007, J.K. Rowling was asked by a young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love". Rowling said "Dumbledore is gay" and "fell in love with the charming wizard Gellert Grindelwald but when Grindelwald turned out to be more interested in the dark arts than good, Dumbledore was terribly let down and went on to destroy his rival." That love, she said, was Dumbledore's "great tragedy." The audience reportedly fell silent after Rowling's admission, then erupted into applause.[5]

We arn't being mean.

Thats pretty neat. I think it adds a whole new depth to his character. Also maybe why he seemed to feel much like a father to Harry, since he never had the opportunity to have children of his own.

Don't judge the books by the movies. The movies are just outright horrible. The books are much better. The books are so big that they tried to cram in all the major stuff without any of the details that make the things major. As well as the fact that they started the movies far befoer the series was done, so many important things to later books, arn't even mentioned or included.

Some of my favorite stuff in the books was the little things. Like when everyone is hooking up in the 6th book, and the password to their room changes to "Abstinence."

I can understand you not wanting to read the books, its your choice, but Dumbledore being gay shouldn't increase your dislike.

It seems JKR had it in mind that he was gay ever since his character was conceived; the fact that he is one of the main heroes is really cool. I actually felt reading the books that Harry was safe and couldn't die as long as DD lived. When he died in the 6th book I actually started worrying for Harry. (/ I hate Harry, and realistically only care about Hermione)

I find it weird that some people haven't read the books. I dunno why, but it just seems weird. I just assume everyone has read them. I read the first HP book when it was unknown, before the second book was published, so I feel like I'm obliged to be a fan.

ABF: how you gonna work this into your mafia game :p

Lol!

Unfortunately he's dead, as I'm doing the 7th book (actually featuring the whole horcuxes vs. hallows this time).

I could try to rearrange the whole game to fit it in, but its really not worth the effort :p

Or I could just go Shel-style, and have him being carried around in people's pockets in a locket :p

After the 6th book came out, two of my friends held up signs outside of the Harry Potter display at Barnes and Noble that said "Snape kills Dumbledore."

They are the funniest jerks i know.

I think it is just a publicity stunt. I dont have aproblem with dumbledore being gay, but why oh why did she decide until after the series was completed to "out" him?

If I was reading right, it was actually because of the current movie. They were planning on having some woman in Dumbledore's past, and she told them, "That isn't going to work, because..." She then decided to go public with it rather than have it leak out from there.

Let's face it - given the massive media coverage this book had and the billions that Rowling has, I don't think they need a publicity stunt

The BoyBlunder

Personally, I jsut like the phrasing she used. That he was "rather let down" when he found out the guy was more interested in experimenting with the dark arts. As opposed to, you know, experimenting with him...

Hey, for all you wanting to neg rep me, I'm sorry. I'll tell you why I don't want to read Harry Potter.

1. J.K. Rolling waited to announce DD was gay after the books were written...why? I dunno. Probably as Bagman said, a publicity stunt.
2. I am a Christian, and while I don't hate gay people, I don't promote it. Perhaps I worded it harshly, but as I said, it goes against my religious beliefs to be gay.
3. And for those of you saying you hope my kids grow up to be gay, do YOU have kids? Do YOU honestly WANT your children to be gay? If you do, then I can accept your statement. If not, don't be hypocritical.

My wife and I are talking about having kids. And the only reason that *I* wouldn't want *MY* kids to be gay is because they'd have to deal with attitudes like yours. And I'd rather spare them that indignity.

I don't snicker behind their backs. I don't glare at them or do whatever you think I do to them. I simply said that it is against my religion. So basically, you're saying that the only reason you don't want kids is because you're afraid of Christians. You're also saying that Everyone should be fine with gay people. It is against the Bible and against my religion, so I can't just be cool with it. But I don't go out of my way to insult or antagonize gay people.

I will offer my apology for my second post in this thread though, as re-reading it now, I did word it more harshly than I intended it to read. I don't hate gay people or anything like that, so I just want to make that clear.

The point is, it shouldn't matter. Would have a gay kid make you love them any less?

That is just the way I feel about it. I try to love everyone for who they are. As I said, I shouldn't have worded my second post the way I did, because it gave off the wrong impression. Sometimes I don't proofread everything I write, which can get someone into trouble. God loves EVERYONE, regardless of their sexual preferences, religous beliefs, and whatever else. So as a Christian, I try to live up to that, so agian, sorry if I offended anyone.

I believe I said that we want kids. We'd welcome a gay child. What we would both dread is the day that he or she first encountered someone who felt that not snickering at or taunting him or her was some form of kindness.

You're also saying that Everyone should be fine with gay people.
Yeah, I'm saying that. Forgiveness and tolerance are pretty revolutionary concepts, aren't they? Someone should write a book about them. Oh, wait - someone did.

I am in Canyon Country (gaining in infamy) and the flames here seem a little hotter than the ones I was seeing outside my apartment the other night.

CptSpaceBomb, you've always seemed a decent guy. In this instance, your view of whether people should or should practice homosexual behaviors is something best kept private.

Everybody else, I don't fault you for speaking out when you read a clearly intolerant view, but perpetuating a back-and-forth on this topic is only going to lead to hurt feelings.

I mean aren't we all familiar with intolerance on some level being that we all play with little superhero dolls?

I get #### about it all the time.

While I certainly loathe intolerance, he's got a right to have his thoughts and ideas.

Space, I'm just asking that you take care in how you voice your views.

I realize I'm just a guy writing this with really nothing to win or lose in the whole deal... but I don't like to see people get heated on here.

And that's solely because I'm not allowed to do it, so neither can you.

I love stumbling in and giving my 2 cents, so here goes!

Being gay sucks sometimes. :p

But honestly, religious conservatives need their own planet where they don't need to feel impacted by us boorish deviants.

You don't get it, do you?

We are people, too. Like being straight isn't THE DEFINING THING ABOUT YOU being gay doesnt define me. It's part of me. I don't judge. I don't lecture.

Yet the Religious Right presumes to know better than us about what is moral, while lining the coffers of unscrupulous politicians. You can judge me because I like men all you like, it just proves your further from Jesus than a homo.

Enjoy that thought, I'm done.

Enjoy that thought, I'm done.I am done discussing this issue because I've apologized for my wording and I'm still getting hammered. If You can't accept that as a Christian, I have my own beliefs that do not coincide with yours, you're more hypocritical than I could ever be. Yes, I've screwed up and spoke my mind. I can see that was a colossul error in judgment on this site. I just think it's funny that I can't say what I believe without being made into public enemy #1. I don't need to hear where I am in relation to Jesus. I already know. And I don't line politicians coffers with money either. I'm just an ordinary guy that happens to be a Christian. Just as you say you're an ordinary guy who happens to be gay. I'm sorry I offended you, and I'm done discussing this because it will just lead to more flaming and instults.

Sorry guys, this thread is closed.

Sex, Politics and Religion (which ironically are all covered in this very thread) are taboo subject for a reason. People are extremely passionate about both and it leads into wars like this.

Go forth on your merry ways and be nice.
