View Full Version : MLB Instant Replay?
I usually don't post here. Actually I never post here. But can someone explain to me why MLB won't use instant replay to decide close calls? I can't really see a reason. I mean why would you want to sacrifice the accuracy of the game when technology now allows you to see exactly whether or not a runner was safe, whether a ball was a HR or foul, etc?

There has been many reasons why baseball doesn't have replay. First, baseball is a game of tradition. Those who are in charge of the decision are mostly traditionalists. They believe that the game is fine the way it is, and there is no reason for change. This is also probably the reason why major league baseball continues to use wooden bats rather aluminum. The second reason is that baseball is already a slow game, and the managers don't want to add instant replay because it would just make the game even longer. The last reason is why instant replay hasn't been used so far in the MLB is because baseball prides itself for having a human element to it.
Personally, I feel the main concern should be getting the call right, and if that involves instant replay, then that's what we need to do. I think that instant replay should only be used in special circumstance like determining foul or foul, home run or not, and on plays that would determine wins or losses.

Well, tradition and the fact that we don't need any pitchers, third basemen or first basemen killed by the balls hit. Plus, don't we have enough offense in baseball without the extra boost aluminum bats would provide?

People always argue that replay would slow down the game, but I think hat that is the reason that it would work. There are enough natural pauses that it really wouldn't make that much difference, it shouldn't take that long to see if a ball went over a fence or not.
They should only use it for home runs, though. Base running would just bog the game down. Also a challenge system like the NFL wouldn't work as there are no timeouts to lose.

I have heard that argument a few times, but have been on the bad side of the argument enough that it still would be nice to have it. I would rather the team that deserved it win either way. Especially when there have been refs that have been blamed of cheating in other sports. Sometimes it only one mans judgment.

I think the corner baseman would be alright, but yeah, the pitcher would probably be dead.

If you wanna hit the ball harder just take steroids.
Oh wait, nevermind, that stuff is "illegal";)
With traditionalists I think replay has a better chance than metal bats.
