View Full Version : Most underrated piece

I say it's Terra.
Seriously, 8 attack can hit, but more importantly she's got Barrier and Forceblast which is tricky but rewarding to use. 9 attack with 4 damage Pulsewave with a 4-square radius is cool too. Plus she can taxi.
I personally believe it's the pieces that aren't imposing that are the most dangerous. Once you realize they're a threat, it's too late. Like the Alfred pog lategame, for instance.

Interesting topic.
I'm not sure if he's been mentioned but my vote goes for the new JL "future" Flash.
His ability to Charge and Flurry with Probability Control, combined with JLA TA and great Defense makes him a fantastic all-around figure for the team.

He's got good synergy, but I had bad luck with him.

Power Ring. Seriously, he may me a bit overpriced, but hes really useful. Plus he has the coveted CSA team ability.

Really? That's too bad. He's never let me down; as a matter of fact, he's become my favorte speedster in the entire game (and that's saying a lot since there are many good speedsters in the game).
Side topic: I'm a firm believer that if you don't "feel" a character/figure, he just won't work.
For example, when I first used Taskmaster (original versions), I couldn't get him to work for the life of me, despite his great AV and abilities.
After reading a few comics about him, he finally "clicked" with me and everytime I've used him since, he's never let me down.
That's just my own take on things.

Just about any low-AV RCE character these days. I had a good time with Dr Light.
BLACK KING !!!
Always dominates.
Ooh, ooh...
I have another one---
Exp Kid Quantum.
Nobody pays attention to her because of her meager 6 Range, no Damage and mere 9 AV.
But that Legion TA, RS and triple Incap has worked miracles for me, miracles I say (BWAHAHAHAHAHAH)!
She has became so dangerous in my games that my opponent(s) will now target her first, no matter who else I'll have on the team.
Red Ghost. He's not amazing, but he has been a royal pain to many of my opponents. In 500 point games I like to put nanobots on him to make him even more annoying!

When I first started playing, I was taught to favor pieces with at least a 10 AV, so I tend to disregard a bunch of really good 9 AV clix.
JL Aquaman is a great example. One's not bad. Two (or more) and he becomes pretty amazing.

I have had great luck with Ambush Bug. He can be anywhere you need him to be, has alternating Outwit and PC so its easy to get to the power you need, and supersenses as a cheap way to save his bacon. I have found that he makes more of his SS rolls than he misses, and he has scored a critical hit against someone foolish enough to base him every time I have played him.

Possibly Granny Goodness. Only used her once, but her special power, which seems like a total waste at first, effectively makes her able to give any fig the Masters of Evil TA.

Grim Reaper from Avengers.
That guy is simply Amazing.

The Rookier Mister Miracle, I am the only person I know who ever fields that guy.
and the Expericed Wildcat,
I catch so much flak for using him, but...
bah just look at his dial.

A bit over priced is an understatement.

well my son pulled power ring in week 1 of starro.
he had to play because of the points. and ill tell u, he hit more figures with a 6 attack then with a 9. in fact he killed 2 pieces with a 6 attack(c-green arrow, and JL plastic man)

U Felix Faust - has a ton of useful support powers, can lend the Mystics TA to your wild cards, and is a pretty decent secondary attacker, but no one ever seems to pay him any attention.
I'd also like to give props to Bulleteer. She doesn't have stellar combat values, but she definitely did great things for me in a number of sealed games. Hopefully, she can charge someone with a heavy object, but even if she misses, her fairly high defense values plus damage reducers mean she'll stick around to annoy your opponent for a while.

Most underrated Piece
i.e. Best value but least recognized.
I'd probably have to go with
1) In unrestricted, Karma. Yes she's valued, but as far as I'm concerned she's always worth her points. She never fails to fall and never fails to eradicate at least double her points while decimating my opponents structure. I've never had a figure before that was ALWAYS worth their point IN EVERY GAME
2) In restricted Tie: STRIPE/Thin Man
I couldn't go with any fig that actually get's a lot of press - like Sandman, or Wildcat, I almost went with Hector Hammond, but I don't think he's quite up their with these two.
--- STRIPE comes off as second tier to Jakeem Thunder Because of Jakeems better support Powers, while both start with the stellar 18/JSA combo. But Stripe is a rea damage dealer throughout hi whole dial able to deal 5 damage or more on several clicks, and having the coveted split shot incapacitate. he also gets a mid-dial attack boost which coincides with the appearance of Invulnerability. A great fig who is just overshadowed by Jakeem.
--Thin Man, This guy has to be the single best tie up piece in the game, and he comes loaded with support powers to boot. with a full dial of plasticity an opponent is gonna need some major luck to outrun this fella. and that plasticity can really work to his advantage by including entangle giving him an extra evasion roll against grounded bricks on top of his toughness. later he gains super senses giving him two evasion rolls. Team him up with a high defense defender and watch you opponents squirm. With 4 clicks of Blades and two of perplex he can crack invuln/IMPerv on every click, and his leadership and perplex add to the rest of the team as well.

Yeah, Thin Man has sick synergy with Bladesy goodness. And his named power is thin hands yet he has a blade.

In unrestricted, its V IC Quicksilver. People laugh until he pounds them. And if he is taken out, they have only taken out a 28 pt. figure.

I'm going with Bouncing Boy, hear me out. Not just because I pulled about 9 of him. He's a wildcarding, taxi'ing, pog killing machine.

hmm...i think the R skrull infiltrator is underrated. he's a great tie up piece and a nuisance to target (shape change/skrull TA).

Power ring (if used correctly) is amazing! HE is one of my favorite clicks. I love playing him.
I also think that people underestimate bucky. That little piece has held his own on a invanders team. He helped take out Blackhand, Dr. Alchemey, and Dr. Polaris.
Rookie Iron Fist
I have killed so many figures with him. He gets hit, I hop away and regen, and for some reason, I always roll a 6 for his regen.
Then, well, he comes back to kick some monkey butt.

R Kree
Willpower down the whole dial, and Shield TA, ensure that even if your R Kree is not longer combat worthy, you still get alot of value out of him. He can enhance damage, or tie up figures. If he is on his first or last click, he is combat worthy, he has 2 damage, and willpower. On his first click, which is his best, he has EE. A well-placed EE can win a game.
Sure, alone, they can not break Invul/Imp, but if there are 2 they can. Back to alone though, most figures do not have Invul/Imp, and the Kree can hurt anyone of those.
More often then you'd think their 16D holds up
Just try them! Try 2! Try 3! muahahah! muahaha! :nervous:

I Tried to like Thin Man, I really Did, but in every case, I would rather be playing Citizen V, and as far as Tie ups go, there are cheaper ones...

R Psylock from AW. Cheap stat booster with Shield TA and perplex, and if you keep pushing her, willpower.
V Skrull Warrior IC. Nothing fancy, heck no abilities what so ever. However, for 17 points you get a very cheap sniper who helps wildcards with the Skrull TA. And in a pinch makes great connon fodder. Heck some pogs almost cost as much for less use and he has 4x thier health.

im going for R thunderball.. charge+ss+4damage.. AWESOME.. attack stinks but the chance to deal 5-7(even penetrating damage with meteorite..) with object in hand for the low, low price of 72pts.. he is the thunderball for your wrecking crew..

Ooh, ooh...
Exp Kid Quantum.
But that Legion TA, RS and triple Incap
I'll agree on this one, though I'll add a couple of my own.
I've been a fan of the R Mantis & Stingray for pouncing. But JL gives me three new underrated figures.
My honorable mention goes to Firehawk. She plays almost like one of my favorite Legacy pieces, Stargirl.
But the three standout pieces are Creeper, Plastic Man & Bulleteer. These three showed to be the most valuable pieces on my teams until the final week of the Starro events.

I'll 2nd Bouncing Boy. He works OK as a cheap 3rd-stringer, but his SP makes him an awesome cleanup man. He KOs someone and immediately ties another foe up. Excellent, just excellent.
I still think Deadman could really mess an opponent up.

my vote goes to V Catman! almost no one uses him where i play but he is capable of taking down or maiming 2 to 3 opposing characters. charge+bcf+willpower? and when he gets damaged, he can be healed by sacrificing pogs!

Please tell me how I would like to use him.

I second V Catman, I have done some pretty amazing things with him.
E Crimson Dynamo from Armor Wars is another underrated figure that always does great when I play him, he's a mean piece with a little bit of everything for only 75 points.
I have also worked wonders playing E Hydroman and E Sandman together, the Sinister Syndicate TA coupled with Hydroman's Defend has always worked wonders for me.

V. Kid Quantum from Legacy.
80 points nets you Running Shot with Triple Incapacitate. Great for tying up an opposing force.
