Is anybody still playing this?
I'm on Server 4 in SW.

I just checked it out -- dear lord, judging from the forums this entire game seems to basically be devoted to making other people's play experience so miserable that they quit.

NOW I'm interested!
I gave it a try. Been on it about 4 days. Seems to be a whole lotta waitin' around. Build up your wood. Your iron. Your clay. Your wheat. It often takes hours just to build up just one resource. These resources allow one to build cooler things (like barracks & troops), but man, I got every single resource up to level 2 and I'm not building anything cool, I'm stuck waiting for my resources to build to 3.
A game for the VERY patient.

Is your new player immunity over yet?

I tiried it for a week or so. The building aspect is very cool but once your newbie immunity is gone the attacks start and you lose ground very fast.
The looting is too strong and the attacks too frequent.
I sent some very nasty messages to my attackers, gave away all my resources to a neighboring village and am closing the account.
The game moves too slow to be pillaged so quickly.

We're getting a new colonization this month!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Jack, missed this when it was posted. Immunity faded. Still a pretty long administrative game. Yes, I got attacked. I built up my crannies to bore them (and me) to death. Had to play it cagey to build up troops (else they get wiped by bigger raiders).
Still not sure it's much fun, even though I've been at it for a month or so.
Seems like there's a server lifespan though. At some point an NPC entity is introduced (the Natar) and players have to ally not only for protection from each other, but from the NPC. Experienced players are all over that, but it's way above my pay grade.

It also felt like there was a lot of pressure and the use of strong-arm tactics to join an alliance. One shouldn't have to do that in this type of game.

Just got into this game last week (on the AU server). Enjoying it so far, but it certainly does require a LOT of patience.

Heh, I didn't realize people were talking about Travian.
It was interesting (I fell in with a big alliance right away), but the PvP combined with the time consumption turned me off on it.

Yeah, it does seem quite unfriendly on the whole- I think the competition is a little too brutal.
But I'm having fun with it for the moment, so that's cool. I've decided not to care about the endgame and instead just to focus on building up my own villages and see how cool I can make them. They've made a few changes in the latest version (3.5) that I think makes it a little better.
You have to have a long-term goal for survival. In my relatively short experience it wasn't about "winning" --it was about existing. I played peaceful, but built defenses and armies. I dedicated myself to building as efficiently as possible, even checking my options in the middle of the night if I was awake. But those players who are out to win have a plan and have allies. They will just beat you down no matter what you've done.
It takes a long time to build a decent village or village group, but it can go away in a day if you find yourself a target.
And you will. :-0
