View Full Version : Firefly/Serenity Mafia sign-ups!

Okay, I don't know how many other Mafia folks here are also Firefly fans, but I've been toying with the idea of a Firefly/Serenity mafia game. I've been cooking up a number of the roles and mechanics of the game, but before I go too much further, I wanna see how many people want to play.
The projected start date for the game would be the first week of January, 2008.
This is because I (and a number of others, I'm sure) are involved in something like 5-9 other mafia games right now, and several will be starting soon.
That said, the game will incorporate some of the elements that we've seen in some of the other games, and possibly something new for a little flavor, if I can make it work in a balanced way. But before I move ahead with too much more, I want to make sure the theme will have enough support. At least the beauty of Firefly is that I can pull from a relatively small cast if there's a smaller turnout, but I can expand to a number of supporting characters if I need it. So let me know here if you're interested, shiny?

I think that's so funny. I love that show now, and he's the reason I decided to give the first episode a chance. I've been hooked ever since. Good show, good characters, and Baldwin has that same type of humor as he did as Jayne.

I have at least 20 roles right now, and I can certainly add some more. There's a pretty rich cast of characters, even in the relatively limited source material. :)

You're welcome, Rokk. I continue to like the show quite a lot (and this yet another shameless plug - if you don't watch "Chuck", you should! :) )
Baldwin's character on "Chuck" is very Jaynesque, but he dresses too neatly and he shaves. Definitely not quite the hero of Canton, the man that they call Jaaaayneee!!!

I read through the rule-book, and it seemed like a solid game, but I never had a chance to actually play it.

Ideally, I'd like 4 more, for an even 20. But I can pare down some of the roles and run it with the line-up we've got. However, I also promised not to start it for a little while longer, so I'm gonna hold off for a bit. That and the roles are not entirely done yet. :)

So just 2 more eh? I'm hoping one of the other mafias I'm in ends before this starts (or I get killed, but who really wants that?). Being in two at once hurts my brain as it is, I can't imagine trying to do three at once!

Don't worry about it too much. There will be a bit of time before I launch this one, since I know that a number of other games are in full swing right now. Of course, that's pretty much always true, but I'll try to hold off a start date until things are a little quieter. :)

Of course I have signed up for 2 others on top of this one as well, so who knows. :rolleyes:
But I seriously can't pass over Firefly. It's the only nerdy thing that my wife loves more than me. She actually came with me to a Sci Fi/comics convention recently because Alan Tudyk was there (he was really cool too).

Then I would highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't own the box set.
Although, as long as I'm on the topic, you can get the complete 13 episode series box set for 20 bucks on sale. You won't regret it.

I borrowed that set from a friend, brought it home and ended up watching almost the whole thing in one long sitting. I kept waiting for the boring epiosde so I could stop.

And you're just waiting and waiting, and all of a sudden its Jubal Early saying "Well, here I am..." and the series is over. And then you go "that's it? I need more!"
Its a sad thing. At least the movie got made, and it, too, was good.

From the looks of the end of the episode, Casey (Baldwin), is going to have no problem putting a hit on Chuck if his upper-ups get the Beta version of the Intercept on line. Take that for killing the Crown Vic, Bartowski!!

No, we're good to go. I'll leave one "straggler spot" open if anyone comes running in at the last minute. But we're otherwise good.

Roles could be ready to go out as early as tonight. If not, then tomorrow is the goal. Anyone interested in getting their role in the next day or so, let me know by posting here. Otherwise, I'll send your role as we get closer to game time.
And with a relatively small group of players, how can you be sure that Simon or Wash even made the character cut?

As a side note, finally bought me a physical-like copy of Serenity offa Netflix. Have to wait 'till Christmas to open it, though.

You know, I'm a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to Serenity. I really like it for what it is, but at the same time I mourn the Firefly that never was. I know Joss said that Serenity is essentially where the show was going to head in a season or two, but the creative process being what it is...oh, man. All those episodes that will never get made. A graveyard of ideas, it is.
