View Full Version : Country Music Court Roundup!

I'm rounding up my court! All of you are accused of absenteeism during my enforced absence due to my hard drive failure.
Where's my Wizard? Where's my Duchess? Where are my Knights? Where's my Earls? Where's my Marquis? Where are all the people who need to be assigned a royal moniker? I'm gonna do an inventory of my court and then I'm going to take EVERYONE to task for absenteeism (With the exception of T'Chaka; my Black Knight, who has made it clear to me why he's missing.) Time to face front people.
P.S. Where's my court jester? Time for some jestering.

At present I am waiting on the arrival of Miranda Lambert's Kerosene CD, the last month has been rock based for me purchase wise so no country for a while. I have been meaning to give Neil Young's Journey Through the Past another spin but so far other songs have got in the way.
Admitedly I had this song stuck in my head today
Carmelita - Warren Zevon
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I'm there with her in Ensenada
And I'm here in Echo Park
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town

All right; that's more like it, though I struggle to consider Warren Zevon country, at least I know I still got my wizard. My big challenge goes to my court jester. I haven't heard a darn thing from him since I gave him the position.

* Tumbleweeds. *
Better get them branding irons and stoke the fire.
Clippety-clop. The Green Knight dismounts his horse and kneels before Zod, I mean the Country Music King. I was away because... umm I was rounding up some more links, like these from Hayseed Dixie, a country tribute band:
Highway To Hell (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=7mU2lJKkQ04)
I Don't Feel Like Dancing (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=BV9Xuw0Sojg)
Walk This Way (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=muyqMrsuLXw)
Ace Of Spades (http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=-xxh492o2aM)
Hope those links work.
readyeddy?
11/27/2007, 06:07
The links work but I can't actually listen to them right now because people are sleeping. I'll consider the links to be adequate bounty to make up for you're extended absence from the forum.
I really need to do an inventory of my absentee court and post it here. I imagine we won't hear from the Duchess until she returns from her trip. The Duke we'll probably never hear from. (He only gets the title cause he's married to the Duchess) I wonder if that's an example of nepotism somehow.
The Black Knight has abandoned the Realms but I'll let him keep he title in hopes that he'll return eventually.
The Mad Knight is of course "mad" so his visits will be sporadic at best, I'm guessing.
That accounts for all the Knights I have so far.
I have an Earl, a Count, a Marquis and a court jester all of whom have accepted their titles, but have been unaccountably absent from the court of late. Their liege is not pleased.
I may have to breakout my good ol' boy tax collectors here!
I must warn everybody that they all look like Junior Samples crossed with "Deliverance". A visit from them would not be pleasant!
Some Kingly duties aren't always pleasant you know.
I'll have to study my threads to see if there's anybody I'm forgetting.

Aha, Count Canuck has finally resurfaced.
However, you're explanation for your absence mystifies me. Are you saying you are that dog or you were out trying to track down that dog or you were filming that dog?
lensnart
11/28/2007, 14:31
The theme song is from the classic Canadian drama the Littlest Hobo, the story of a dog who solves crimes, saves old people, reunites lost loves and that sort of thing, but he can only stay until the next adventure calls him away.
It was a primetime show here in the late 80's so I figured it would have had some exposure on the low dollar side of the border.
Long story short I will try to pop into the country threads when I am needed.

11/28/2007, 14:57
You're always needed Count.
The Littlest Hobo was on NZ screens after school, it was quite popular, among my friends anyway. That was back in the day when we only had two TV channels in our little country.

Good links, I should look more closely at Clint Black's music.
Here's my court inventory to date.
AlienFlanders --- Wizard of Oz
KiwiGirl--- Duchess of Kiwi
DTM--- Duke of Kiwi (Due to his relationship with KiwiGirl. If he ever actually posts on these threads, I might need a defibrilator.)
BigMac35--- the Dukester
Velvetguru9--- The Earl of Omniscience (glaringly absent)
Lensnart--- Count Canuck
StuartRex--- the Marquis De Nordique
T'Chaka --- the Black Knight (Absent by choice, giving him time to change his mind.)
Lurker--- The Green Knight
Pashmina--- The Mad Knight
BudPalmer--- The Court Jester (glaringly absent)
I've offered a title to Hail Eris which he never responded to and there are probably a couple I need to offer titles to. I still need to offer a Barony to someone.
Hey, I would gladly take up the Court Jester role if Bud has been a no show for this long.

Well I hate to fire people but he has been negligent of his duties. I don't see why I can't have more then one really anyway. Gotta give you an individual identity though so I'll make you the court Joker.

04/22/2008, 13:45
You'd like to be a Baron? Well you can't just be any old Baron, you have to be a Baron that's apropos to your persona. Plus as a Baron of the court, you'll need to weigh in about country music every once in a while.
I see you're from upstate N.Y. but i need a little more to go on so I can assign your Barony.
I suggest that he become the Baron of Banjo. From the realm of bluegrass.

You mentioned Hank Williams III in my Texas Swing thread so I picked up one of his CDs, "Straight To Hell". I would definitely put him in the alternative Country category. Good stuff, but I would still hire Asleep at the Wheel if I was going to have a Country music themed party.

I think alt-country doesn't even decribe Hank III. We can call him Post-Punk-Alt-Country

I like to give titles that reflect the person somehow. Maybe something that ties in with where they were raised ala the Wizard of Oz, Count Canuck or the Duchess of Kiwi or something that reflects their personality. I know you both live in Illinois now but it can reflect somewhere that she was raised. It would be nice if it seemed clever and original.

Whoops. I've never been to Terlingua. I'm just a complete freak for 70's/80's "Outlaw country" and present-day "Red Dirt" music. That's why I asked for Terlingua. :nervous:

That's all right. It's a little harder to do that with people Stateside. I was just hoping she could give me a nugget so I can give her a title that's fun.
I'm still waiting to hear from Maniac nmt about being ignored. He's calling himself the Black Knight and my own Black Knight is awol from the Realms. I don't have time to search through the threads to see if I really did ignore him.
By the way; Dngrgrrl, I don't have any female knights. Would you consider being the Pink Knight or is that too similar to the Pink Power Ranger?

I'm a military brat. I've been to about 23 different countries, and over 30 states. I work in the oil and gas industry. I like mainly bluegrass, western, and classic country.

How about something more royal sounding like the Marquess of the Mountains? (I think that's the feminine for Marquis.)
Mistress sounds like she's a concubine and I don't that would go over that well with you.

The correct term for a female marquess/marquis is marquise (pronounced mar-que-sa).
I vote for Sir Maniac the Crusader or Sir Maniac the Winter Knight (I love to ski).

I thought about Empress of the Realms, but that would mean you'd outrank me; making my kingliness irrelevant, so I decided we should go with Our Lady of the Realms assuming you'd be comfortable with that. Let me know if you're cool with that or you'd rather something different.

I guess it was inevitable. It was pretty much down to four of us posting. It's a shame, it was nice to have a niche that should have attracted the people who enjoyed the genre and didn't disturb the people who didn't care or the ones who actively hate country music.
