View Full Version : Fight Club ECW depression

Now, I'm not talking about the current ECW (which is depressing in its own right in a lot of ways) but I was watching the first "One Night Stand" (2005) again yesterday, and even since then, the wrestlers that have died, man.
Eddie, Chris Benoit, Mike Awesome(who with Tanaka had the best match of the night, bar none.) are all dead. It just pained me to watch the Benoit/Guerrero match, as both men were SO talented, and for that talent to be wasted and destroyed.
Sabu, RVD, Tajiri, Sandman, Dudleys; all gone from WWE/ECW; with only the Dudleys active on TNA. I can respect the WWE drug policy, but I wished we would of gotten at least a decent chance to say goodbye to like RVD. The man was the heavyweight champion, for smeg's sake!
Justin Credible now works for Walmart.
Kid Kash, where is he?
I know ECW is long gone, but man; I sure miss it now.

I do too...funny thing is, the current "What If" for wwe.com is what if ECW never went under?
That said, I plan to recreate it in Fire Pro Returns!!!

Tanaka and Awesome's match at ONS 2005 is one of the best I've seen in recent memory. I really miss the good ol' days, but I have slowly come to admit it's gone.
As for Sabu, I'm thinking he's gonna retire soon. Tajiri is wreslting full-time in Japan. I'm not sure what the Sandman or RVD's plans are. I haven't heard. Kid Kash was in TNA for a few years, but then was signed by the WWE. He spent a stint as Cruiserweight Champion but soon became a jobber on Heat and Velocity. He was released eariler this year. Last I heard, he's wrestling independants with no intention to wrestle in a major promotion again any time soon.
Credible works at Wal-Mart?? That's great.

Want ECW?
Check out Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PS2 and make the old school ECW in it and watch them beat the hell out of each other.
Fixed it, Storm!

Yeah, ECW is a shell of it's former self and it's a slap in the face to great teams like the Dudley's, the Eliminators, and the Gangstas when one half of your tag-team champions is the Miz!!!
Chavo Guerrero couldn't be the World Champion in most backyard feds! It's a joke and Vince McMahon is usually a genius, but I rate the return of ECW right up there with the XFL.

I view the resurrection of ECW the equivalent of bringing in Goldberg. Vince did it just to bury it.
Chavo actually works for me. He's a veteran who can teach the younger guys a LOT, and having Punk chase him for the belt will work well. The problem lies in the fact that SmackDown and ECW are combined...thus making ECW a poor man's SmackDown at best.

I was at the Raw Goldberg debuted in, "Rock appreciation night."
I don't think I've ever booed a wrestler as loud in my life. It was great.

The worst I ever booed/insulted a wrestler was at WWF: Breakdown in Hamilton. It was the night Taker and Kane both pinned Austin for the belt. Earlier in the night there was a 3-way cage match involving Mankind, The Rock, and Ken Shamrock. Rock was supposed to be the heel, but I lead a resounding cheer for him. Shamrock on the other hand...first, I was impressed he could even hear me...but he motioned to breaking me in half after the match. He was royally irate. But, man did I lay in to him.

I'm not saying Chavo can't wrestle, but he is not extreme, nor is he a main event draw in the business. Punk is top talent and needs to be on RAW. ECW should be taken out behind a building a shot like Old Yeller when you only have 1 ECW rules match per show.
As for Smackdown, I stopped watching that a long time ago. It's sad when you have guys like Batista and the Undertaker having to share main events with Viscera and the Great Khali. Don't get me started on the double-elimination chamber fiasco...
Anyway, ECW is a mockery and the brand extension of the WWE should end. ECW should live on as Vince does a great job of making quality DVD's of all of the old footage from WCW, WCCW, NWA, WWF, ECW, and so on...I would rather pay to watch old ECW matches than new ones.

I never really booed a particular wrestler before but I laid into TNA as a whole pretty good while I was at Lockdown last year during the Electrified Cage fiasco.

Oh, man... you should have seen it live. It was terrible. I've seen the match on TV, and it translated better than I thought it would. Seeing it live was just ridicuolus... Almost as bad as the Blindfold Match that same night.

TNA does try a little hard with the gimmick matches. They are finally at a point where they have some names like Angle, Christian, and Booker T in addition to their fresh talent like A.J. Styles, Petey Williams, and Chris Sabin. Jarrett needs to come back now and he needs to be a face for a little while. TNA had a raw feel like ECW used to have when it first started, but now it's kind of lame. I can't stand Eric Young...and poor Black Machisimo...what a waist...

I love the idea of Black Machismo. if Randy Savage won't do Randy Savage, let Jay Lethal do it.
I don't think we ever need Jeff Jarrett.

Booker or wrestler is fine...but sure as heck not both.

Well, Jarrett is a really good heel and the fans really dislike him. I've always had an issue with wrestlers booking. Look at the chaos caused by the likes of Nash, Hogan, and more...

Not to mention Triple H...
Honestly, I'd like to see someone like Sid as a booker. I get the impression he knows his stuff.

He said in an interview late last year that he would like one more run and has been constantly talking to WWE to try and work something out.
Honestly, check out YouTube. There's an interview with him that's something like 14 parts long. It's pretty good.

Sid's very intelligent; however isn't married to wrestling like others are. He has a ton of interest away from it; and while it might be refreshing, I don't think he has the desire to run/book for a long stretch.
If the WWE was smart, Vince and Steph would turn the book over to Paul Heyman and watch the man print money for them.

That would never happen. Vince is too much of a control freak.

A booking team of Sid, Paul Heyman, Pat Patterson, and even Dusty Rhodes (NOT as head booker though!!!) would probably be gold.

I actually read an interview with Heyman recently where he makes it sound like Stephanie wanted to keep him on board and in charge, and it was Vince that drove him out.
Several years ago, my friend was working as a security guard at a hospital when Justin Credible came in to see someone there. My friend recognized him and started to talk to him, and the short story is that Credible said Vince and the WWE were terrible if you weren't top talent, while Paul Heyman took care of you no matter where you were on the roster.
Interestin' stuff.

WWE is going down in flames when Steph takes over. I'm calling it now.
If Vince had any clue, he'd give control to Shane. That would be awesome.

The McMahon's make and break the WWE all at the same time. I hate it when they're on there and I miss them when they're gone...it's a double-edged sword! I don't think Heyman would do that much better for the business. I think the brand extension and lack of real, viable competition is the problem...

ECW is part of WWE and this effects to it. It's like other WWE shows with some real talents in roster and some really bad choses. ECW is no longer unique like it was before fall and resurection by WWE.
