I found out that i could make people change there target instead of there vote but decided to keep quet or the mafia would try to get me.

Thats called being a misdirector. You misdirected me (a jailkeeper) to block our doctor, which caused our tracker to be killed. You are either a bad player, or mafia. Either way, you are a liability to the town and need to be removed.

Oh and DC, thanks for giving some info. I had originally pegged Shadow as the room checker based on what he had said, which means unless he comes out and says you are lying, I would like to hear him say what he has been doing this whole time.

He had little difficulty finding her and staying out of sight. From what he could tell, she appeared to be watching out for another.

This is from night 1, I'm not sure if it is me or not. But I'm pretty sure it is.


Another man kept to the shadows that night, waiting for the right opportunity to strike at the Skrulls.

He did not know that an ally, who was also quite familiar with the Baxter Building, stood nearby, ready to prevent others from distracting him from his work.


Night 3, and I know for sure this is me.

One man (watched over by a woman who was quite familiar with the Baxter Building) emerged from the shadows to scan the man in red, in order to confirm his identity.

Night 4, me again.

In another wing of the Baxter Building, T’Challa moved quickly to confront his target. He had to know whether she had been replaced by a Skrull.

Another accompanied him to make sure that nothing would distract the Black Panther or interfere with what he had to do. Unfortunately, neither the Black Panther nor his companion was prepared for the sudden flash of intensely bright, blinding light.

Moments later, the Black Panther’s companion finally regained her sight, horrified at what she saw.

“Oh no, T’Challa …”

The Black Panther lay unmoving on the ground. The burn mark on his chest suggested that he had been struck down by some kind of intense energy discharge. And lying next to him was a scanner, wrecked beyond repair.

Did you ever think that we could have a bodyguard or another protecter? In a game this size, it wouldn't be a stretch. The mafia wouldn't want to fail their hit for the night.

The doctor is not dead. The doctor is the person that you forced me to jailkeep last night. Remember, when Rokk was killed because the doctor wasnt protecting him? The mob probably didnt target me because until last night, Sue had been protecting me.

Also, Biz is not a serial killer. Serial killers have to kill each night. He has clearly chosen not to. However, it should be obvious as to why the mob hasnt targetted him. They know that sooner or later he will kill me, and I am a townie. They certainly wont kill him now, as they know at some point he needs to kill me.

The crowd gathered around the man, furious that he had been manipulating and misdirecting them. He had ruined their strategy to root out the Skrulls, with catastrophic results.

Yet, the Skrulls were still out there. They would have to deal with him later.

My post-Christmas plans have changed somewhat. As a result, the deadline for Night 6 pms is extended to 10pm EST, 12/26.

Night 6

In one room within the Baxter Building, the Mad Thinker made plans for the night. He had infiltrated the meeting by transferring his consciousness into an android body, built to resemble another hero. Although he had planned revenge against the Fantastic Four, he found himself forced to work with them, at least temporarily, for he did not want to be a subject of the Skrull Empire. It did not take a genius-level intellect to realize that the conquest of Earth by the Skrulls would have terrible consequences for heroes and villains alike. And so he tried to work behind the scenes, manipulating the heroes into carrying out his plans.

One hero in particular took exception to this.

“IT’S CLOBBERING TIME!”

A furious Thing crashed through the wall into the Mad Thinker’s room and began pummeling his android body.

“You imbecile! I’m on your side!”

“Shut it, Thinker! Tomorrow, we’re tossing you into the Negative Zone!” Unwilling to listen to the Mad Thinker, Ben Grimm battered the android body relentlessly, finally leaving it a hunk of scrap metal.

Or so he thought. Moments after the Thing departed, the android body’s self-repair routines activated, slowly rebuilding its battered form through the night.

Another of the Baxter Building’s occupants also distrusted the Thinker and hoped to undermine whatever he had planned that night. However, it was clear that someone else got their first. He was just about to return to his room, when a laser beam, fired by someone else hiding in the darkened hallway, missed him by inches.

This was not the first time someone had tried to kill him since the Skrull Invasion began, but the young man was determined that it would be the last. Abandoning the Mad Thinker, he willed his body to take on a thickly armored form and charged his attacker.

A fusillade of laser fire met his charge, and one blast destroyed part of the ceiling. Tons of rubble collapsed in front of the young man, cutting him off.

It was more than enough opportunity for his attacker to escape. Although this plan had failed, he vowed to try again the next night and fulfill his duty to the glorious Kree Empire.

Elsewhere, the Invisible Woman left her room, determined to protect another. Unfortunately, someone struck her from behind, knocking her unconscious.

As Ben Grimm returned to his room, someone ambushed him with an energy blast. The energy blast felt strangely familiar to Ben, and as he watched his rocky exterior transform back into his human body, he realized why: It felt exactly like the first time Reed had managed to change him back, albeit temporarily.

Unfortunately, the Skrull holding the energy blaster had far less benevolent intentions.

“You know, the scientists weren’t sure that this would work. Guess I’ve always been lucky,” sneered the Skrull.

Ben knew the transformation was only temporary, but it didn’t matter. He knew that he wouldn’t get the time he needed to change back.

“IT’S CLOBBERING TIME!” he bellowed, as he tackled the Skrull. Ben fought with a ferocity and determination worthy of his Yancy Street upbringing, and surely would have won if it were a contest of courage and heart. Unfortunately without his powers, there was only one inevitable conclusion.

TheVagrantKing is dead. He was Ben Grimm, the Thing (Hero/Fantastic Four), ever-loving, blue-eyed idol of millions.

Day 7 begins now and will end at 2pm EST, 12/27 or when a majority is reached. With 16 players remaining in the game, 9 votes are required for a majority.

Hey guys, managed to escape from the in-laws long enough to get online using their modem connection (eesh) and get caught up. Don't have much more time, so I'll try to get all of my points/questions out there as quickly as possible.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to say that I had suspected that Sstralkowski was the "techie" type killer (sound wave machine, laser blaster, etc) because of the fact that I had jailkept him a few nights back and he was the guy trying to leave the lab. I jailkept him last night and that killer still struck. However, this was also the first time that I did not show up in the writeup in any way, so I suppose it is possible that I was roleblocked or something (if there is another RB-er out there besides thing).

That said, I would like for Sstralkowski to roleclaim, as we havent heard much from him.

Also, Badu, will you stop saying that I was acting suspicious? All it does is take focus away from actual skrull suspects. The only suspicious thing I did was jailkeep our known doctor, and that is because you misdirected me to do so. At any rate, the writeup seems to indicate that you are at least good for a temporary ally, so I will go ahead and Change vote to whoever has the majority because I don't know when I can be on next.

About your above quote Cragi: I know very little about skrulls and kree, etc. However, I checked back on the writeup about Carlos' death, and it said something about an image inducer being found next to his body. I had just assumed that it was some kind of gadget that made him look like Karnak. I am saying this because while I cannot with certainty say that Ignatz is not a Kree, I am just pointing out that it may be possible that he really did think Carlos was Karnak.

I was as surprised as anybody to see a Kree in the writeup. But as you point out, Kree aren't shapeshifters, and I'm female (as seen in writeup, woman with long red flowing hair).

Based on the counting, I'm guessing Carlos is back, although there may be more of them.

OK. He's high on my list of returnee suspects, though, based on the Kree killer in the writeup-- we can organize a simple lynch for him, reach the total, and test the theory with no harm done if we are wrong. It's basically a free action, we might as well, unless we are pressed for time and have a more likely returnee.

Too many of their friends had fallen to the Skrulls, and the heroes were determined to get answers. They started with one man, a longtime hero, albeit one with a history of mental instability and questionable actions.

“It’s me, Hank! I’ve been trying to work out a solution in Reed’s lab, or what’s left of it.”

The crowd remained skeptical. Dr. Henry Pym’s involvement with the Initiative gave him access to the highest levels of American government as well as superhero teams in all 50 states. Furthermore, his various identity changes over the years surely provided opportunities for the Skrulls to replace him. If the Skrulls had succeeded in replacing a well-connected and longtime Avenger, who couldn’t they have replaced?

In the end, the Baxter Building occupants decided to take no chances.

Sstralkowski has been sent to the Negative Zone. He was Lieutenant Bg’mrn (Skrull Infiltrator), who made sure that every state had a Skrull, while posing as Dr. Henry Pym, Yellowjacket, of the Initiative.

As night fell on the Baxter Building, someone in a black costume moved quickly and purposefully towards her target. Soon, the last member of the hated Fantastic Four would be dead, and nothing would stand in the way of the Skrull Empire’s victory!

She opened the door, but her target was not there.

“Nice try.”

Turning around, the Skrull saw the (now quite visible) Invisible Woman standing behind her. She pounced, but was repelled by a force field. For her part, Sue Storm wasted no time in unleashing a barrage of force bolts at the Skrull, but incredibly, her would-be killer was both agile and lucky enough to dodge all of them before retreating into the darkness.

Elsewhere, a man in a black costume decided that he had had enough. Too many of his friends had fallen, and he was going to do something about it. Without bothering to knock or give any warning, he kicked down the door to another’s room.

Inside was a man in a white costume, who hurled a crescent-shaped boomerang at the man in black. However, the man in black caught the boomerang effortlessly.

“I know Moon Knight. Moon Knight is a friend of mine. And you’re no Moon Knight!” said the man in black as he knocked the man in white to the ground with a single punch.

“Please,” groveled the man in white. “I’m not a Skrull! I swear!” As he pretended to beg for mercy, the man in white drew a dagger, which he hid in the folds of his cape.

“Yeah, I know,” said the man in black. “You came to kill Spidey. I’m not going to let that happen, whether or not you’re a Skrull.”

The man in white lunged forward with his dagger.

But the man in black was much faster. In a single fluid motion almost too quick for the human eye to see, he drew his sword, positioning it perfectly in anticipation of his opponent’s charge.

Unable to stop in time, the man in white’s momentum carried him forward, impaling him on the blade. He had barely enough time to be surprised before he died.

Finally, a woman with green hair stepped out from her room, only to be hit immediately by a stream of viscous webbing.

“You idiot! You’re interfering with official S.W.O.R.D. business!”

“A government agency set up to protect the planet from an alien invasion? Gee, the Skrulls would never think of infiltrating that,” quipped Spider-Man.

“I am not a Skrull!”

“Lady, I believed Tony Stark when he told me nothing bad was going to happen if I unmasked on national tv. Heck, I think I even believed J. Jonah Jameson once when he told me that the check was in the mail. But no way do I believe what you’re telling me. ”

The argument was interrupted by a sudden, piercing scream.

“We’ll settle this later.”

Leaving the woman with the green hair, Peter Parker raced towards the scream. He could feel his Spider-Sense tingling with ever increasing intensity as he neared one room, and wasting no time, he burst through the door, coming face to face with … the Super-Skrull!

Wasn’t he dead? How did he come back to life? These questions would have to wait. Peter knew that he was outclassed, but that didn’t stop him from tackling the Super-Skrull.

Peter pummeled the Super-Skrull relentlessly, but after a moment, he realized that something was wrong. The Super-Skrull wasn’t fighting back!

“What’s going on?”

As if in answer to that question, someone stepped out of the darkness behind Peter, shooting him in the back. After waiting a moment to see if the body turned into a Skrull (it didn’t), the killer calmly deactivated the image inducer, revealing the “Super-Skrull” to be merely a mannequin.

A few minutes after the killer departed, another woman who had been trying to watch out for Spider-Man discovered his body, anguished that she had not been able to get there in time to help.

Dbauers is dead. He was Peter Parker, Spider-Man (Hero/New Avengers), friendly neighborhood wall-crawler who tried his best to make sure that only Skrulls were caught in his webs.

well namor was the vigilante (maybe SK) but I do believe that Ronin killed Chameleon (trying to save spidey) which could have been like Torches kill power. and Mystique does fit the bill as the gun man, which we were looking for since a gun man killed Dr Strange. also black cat is a skrull since she tried to kill me. as far as the lazer/ultrasound killer I think it was antman which we took care of already

right now I'm watching the latest die hard movie so I'm not focusing on this thread but, I'm not sure how much time is left in this day phase,... I do believe that it would be a waste to chase Carlos since we don't know if he is in the game. lets say you convice one or two people to chase down carlos we waste time and might not have enough to lynch ironman. since he was our orginal target of the day.

if we didn't have a target I would test your theory out. but until we have proof that carlos is in the game we should focus on ironman and wait to see if someone comes out to be the brought back player.

besides if carlos comes back it would be a waste if he comes back as the same person (unless someone brought him back to life, but that wasn't in the write up)

so if the day is over if you have a RB power or Misdirect power pick on one of these three,... IM could be a good guy, and either deathstroke/webheadman is ronin so until we get better info those would be my targets

“Last time I checked, this is still America and Tony Stark's lobbyists still haven't got the Fourth Amendment repealed!”

The gamma-powered lawyer stood her ground, but as her indignation rose, her control over her emotional state diminished. She had been having problems controlling her transformations recently, and now, she could not stop herself from reverting into plain, old Jennifer Walters, Esquire.

Sadly, it was the only opportunity that two killers needed. One raced forward and snapped her neck. The other unleashed a hail of laser fire. It was all over before any of the women had a chance to react.

Yet, there was something odd about one of the killers, who now retreated into the darkness.

“I thought we sent her to the Negative Zone!”

Elsewhere, a man kicked down a door.

“You’re a Skrull, aren’t you?”

“That is ridiculous,” said Storm, remaining calm and dignified in the face of the intrusion. “I understand your grief and pain. I myself have lost a husband and many dear friends. But to act upon nothing more than vague suspicions is insanity.”

“Save the phony tears,” said the man. “It had to be you. Who else could have gotten close enough to T’Challa without him suspecting?”

Without warning, a bolt of lightning leapt from Storm’s hands, striking the man squarely in the chest. He fell and did not stir.

Storm walked over to the body and smirked.

She was utterly shocked to find a blade of tempered steel thrust through her heart. She barely even saw the flash of metal. Who could have thought that anybody could move so quickly?

The man rose, a little unsteadily at first, but he seemed invigorated when he gazed upon the green corpse beside him. It was Spidey who gave him the idea to insulate his costume when he described how he had beaten Electro once by wearing rubber gloves. He wished very much that Peter was still here, even if he had no idea why Cap ever let him become an Avenger.

never count your chickens before they hatch,.... I hate games that its one or two nights away from a win and would you know it. I get killed during the night. if we take out doc, the skrull is still out there I'm sure Ronin could take care of the skrull but if something happens and the skrull gets in one more kill :( you never know until its over.

The Baxter Building’s occupants surrounded the woman. They didn’t know how she escaped the Negative Zone, but they were determined to send her back.

DocDoom187 has been sent to the Negative Zone (again). He was Agent Desbok (Skrull Infiltrator), who escaped from the infamous prison known as “42” to cause more havoc, posing as Rogue.

The crowd dispersed, returning to their rooms to prepare for the night. One woman allowed herself to indulge in a small bit of optimism. To be sure, she had suffered great loss. Reed, Ben, and Jen were dead. Johnny was imprisoned in the Negative Zone. But the heroes were closing in on the Skrulls who hid among them. Perhaps this ordeal would be over soon. Perhaps she would see Franklin and Valeria soon.

Her hopes were cruelly dashed. Days before, someone had laced her food with an exotic, slow-acting, but lethal, poison. Indeed, her killer had selected this particular poison precisely because he knew that she would feel, and therefore, suspect nothing for days.

Now, with terrifying speed, the poison wracked her body, which convulsed in a spasm of pain. Fortunately, her suffering was short, as she soon passed into unconsciousness, and from there, into death.

Vicious_x is dead. He was Susan Storm, the Invisible Woman (Hero/Fantastic Four), who tried her best to protect her teammates and herself from the killers in the Baxter Building.

Teddy Altman had figured out who teleported the bomb into Reed’s laboratory. It was so obvious, he was surprised no one had thought of it earlier.

Now, he raced through the darkened hallways of the Baxter Building, hoping to bring Reed’s killer to justice. At the same time, a man in a black mask stepped from his room into the hallway, and Hulkling barreled into him.

“Hey, watch it, kid,” muttered Clint Barton.

“Sorry,” said Teddy. “But I know who killed Mr. Fantastic, and—“

“You know who killed Reed?”

“Yeah, and I’ve got to—“

“Tell me. I’ll deal with him.”

Ronin had planned to confront another that night, but the kid made sense. So he changed his plans and kicked down the door to the Mad Thinker’s room.

“I suppose the concept of knocking is beyond the grasp of your Neanderthal mind,” observed the Mad Thinker. “Don’t you heroes understand that, without my genius, you have no chance against the Skrulls?”

“Stuff it, we don’t need your ‘help.’”

“How many times do I need to explain this to you? I have no desire to live as a Skrull slave. A temporarily alliance is in my best interest.”

“I’m not here about that,” said Clint. “I’m here because you killed Reed Richards. You teleported that bomb into his lab. The Skrulls wouldn’t bring in a bomb when they’ve already got a squad here, and the Chameleon isn’t smart enough to pull something like that off. But you hated Reed, you’re smart enough to build a teleporter, and you’re not even really here—you’re just hiding in one of your android bodies. It had to be you.”

The Mad Thinker fell silent and then smirked. “And it took you nine days to figure that out.”

Furious, Clint hurled a half dozen throwing stars. All of them struck the Mad Thinker squarely in the chest, but to no effect.

“You really are a fool,” said the Mad Thinker, as his android body’s elongated arms reached out. Quickly, they wrapped themselves around Clint’s neck, strangling him.

Clint knew that he couldn’t break the Mad Thinker’s hold, so he gambled on one final strike. Summoning all his strength, he plunged his sword into the Mad Thinker’s eye, pressing the blade as hard as he could. As his world slowly went black at the edges, Clint could see sparks flying, and the Mad Thinker’s android body thrashing about wildly. He thought of Bobbi and his friends as his world grew darker.

Then after what felt like an eternity, the Mad Thinker’s arms fell from his neck. Clint fell to the ground, gasping for air. As he got up, he could see the Mad Thinker’s android body lying inert, with a sword through its central processing unit.

Elsewhere, two ancient hatreds would culminate in another corner of the Baxter Building, where two women—one with red hair, the other with green hair—confronted each other.

“You Kree are pathetic,” said Abigail Brand. “Only humans would be so stupid as to be fooled by your disguise.”

“Medusa” turned off her image inducer, revealing her true form—a blue-skinned Kree—and shrugged. “I do not need this device to slay you where you stand, Skrull scum. Indeed, I would prefer that the last thing you ever see in your miserable, worthless life is my true form.”

Both reached for their weapons, and a legacy of hatred older than human civilization erupted in a barrage of laser fire.

When the gunfire stopped, both knew that the end had come. Yet, they struggled against the inevitable, willing themselves to remain alive for just a moment longer than their opponent, as if that would somehow constitute a victory.

They both succumbed to their wounds at the same moment, with Abigail Brand’s corpse turning as green as her hair.

Ironman1994: Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Tarpok (Skrull Infiltrator), posing as the Black Cat. Growing up on Sarna VII, one of the most dangerous and impoverished worlds in the Skrull Empire, you developed an affinity for deception that was uncanny even for a race of shapeshifters. After joining the military to escape the world of your childhood, your superiors noticed your talents and put them to good use on Earth. You have taken the identity of the luck manipulating human thief known as Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat (Hero/Unaffiliated).

The Art of Deception: During a night phase, you may pm me with the names of two players. You will trick the first player into targeting the second player that night. You may use this power three times during the game.

Better Lucky than Good: Skrull scientists have succeeded partially in duplicating your cover identity’s luck powers. As a result, if you are not using your “Art of Deception” power, you may pm me with the name of one player during a night phase. Anybody who targets you has a 50% chance of targeting that player for that night. This is a defensive ability.

sudbury33: Agent Tr’pnh (Skrull Infiltrator), posing as the Black Widow. Fanatically loyal to the Skrull Empire, you long for the day when the Imperial Battlefleet appears in orbit to vaporize these loathsome humans. You have taken the identity of the human super spy known as Natasha Romanov, the Black Widow (Hero/Mighty Avengers).

Espionage: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will learn who they targeted.

Cover Identity: You have succeeded in passing yourself off as a member of the Mighty Avengers. You may communicate via pm with the other Mighty Avengers (Cronox and The Vision). This power remains effective, even if you are chosen as the killer.

Antipathy: Agent Pk’qhr (Skrull Infiltrator), posing as Echo. Although you are a loyal subject of the Skrull Empire, you have also found your posting to Earth to be unexpectedly congenial. Currently, you dream of retiring to a villa, waited upon by human servants, after the Skrull Empire conquers Earth. You have taken the identity of the human ninja known as Maya Lopez, Echo (Hero/New Avengers).

Photographic Reflexes: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will learn what their ability is and may use this ability yourself on the subsequent night.

Cover Identity: If you target or are targeted by a New Avenger, you will fool them and be recruited into their Hero (i.e., mason) group, gaining the ability to pm the other members. Your win condition, however, will remain the same. This power will not work if you are chosen to be the killer and a New Avenger is targeted for the kill; however, it will work under all other circumstances.

thepunisher27: Agent Desbok (Skrull Infiltrator), posing as Rogue. You have recently graduated with high honors from the prestigious Skrull Imperial War Collegium. Shortly afterwards, you were rewarded with a posting to Earth. As the invasion approaches, you eagerly anticipate an opportunity to prove yourself. You have taken the identity of the human mutant known as Rogue (Hero/X-Men).

Power Absorption: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. That player will not be able to use his powers or perform any actions (i.e., will be roleblocked) for the night.

Cover Identity: You have succeeded in passing yourself off as a member of the X-Men. You may communicate via pm with the other X-Men (Melkhor and Groovyboy). This power remains effective, even if you are chosen as the killer.

DarkCorsair: Special Operative R’xozn (Skrull Infiltrator/Sleeper Agent), posing as Abigail Brand, Agent of S.W.O.R.D. A deep cover Skrull sleeper agent, you have infiltrated the subdivision of SHIELD dedicated to protecting Earth from extraterrestial threats. The Skrull High Command organizes its infiltrators through cells, so that the loss of one operative or cell will not lead to the revelation of other operatives. Consequently, you do not know who the other Skrull Infiltrators are, nor do they know who you are.

However, you have recently found evidence that Kl’rt, the failed experiment known as the Super Skrull, has also infiltrated this meeting. Kl’rt seeks vengeance, not only on his human enemies who have defeated him many times, but also on the Skrulls who he blames for turning their backs on him. Risking exposure, you have come here to find and warn your comrades.

You win when all threats to the Skrull Infiltrators have been eliminated.

Sleeper Agent: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player.

If that player is a Skrull Infiltrator, you will be recruited into their cell (i.e., the Mafia). You will also be recruited if a Skrull Infiltrator targets you at night. You will gain new powers if you are recruited.

If that player is the Super Skrull or one of his hypnotized thralls (i.e., recruits), you will be killed.

If that player is a Hero, you will be able to fool them and remain undiscovered, at least most of the time.

If that player is … something else, well, who knows what might happen?

He eventually made contact with the Skrulls and gained the following power:

S.H.I.E.L.D. dossiers: Your cover identity gives you access to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s extensive files on Earth's superheroes. Then, as the last Skrull standing, he became the Don, gaining the power to make night kills.

MSU: Dr. Stephen Strange (Hero/New Avengers). As Sorcerer Supreme, you can cast a number of spells to assist the Heroes.

Eye of Agamotto: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. The Eye of Agamotto will reveal whether that player is a Hero or a Skrull.

Dbauers: Peter Parker, Spider-Man (Hero/New Avengers). More than anyone, you feel betrayed by Tony Stark. But great responsibility comes with great power, and that means working together to save Earth from the Skrulls.

Webbing: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will use your webbing to restrain that player, preventing them from using their powers or taking any action (i.e., roleblocked) for the night. Your target will also be protected from night-kills while they are roleblocked.

Deathstroke1134: Clint Barton, Ronin (Hero/New Avengers). Times change. People change. Just look at you—circus performer, criminal, hero, archer, and now ninja. But Skrulls are always bad news.

More than a bow and arrows: You’ve shown quite a knack for slipping into costumed identities created by others (e.g., Goliath, Ronin). Once during the game, you may pm me with the name of a Hero who has been killed or sent to the Negative Zone (i.e., lynched). You will then be able to use your skills to duplicate the effects of their abilities; effectively, you acquire their powers for purposes of the game.

I liked this power a lot, as I thought it was something new and different, as well as flexible and useful for the town.

Ultimately, deathstroke1134 put it to good use. He chose to duplicate Uknown352's (Namor) power, becoming a vigilante, and a pretty effective one at that.

You may communicate with your fellow Fantastic Four members (vicious_x, Al_Mattityahu, and TheVagrantKing) via pm. You win when all threats to the Heroes have been eliminated.

Vicious_x: Susan Storm, the Invisible Woman (Hero/Fantastic Four). Despite your loss, you know that there will be time to grieve for Reed later. Right now, the Skrulls must be stopped and made to pay for their crime!

Force Field: Each night, you may send me a pm with the name of a player. That player will be protected from night kills.

Watching vicious make himself a leading suspect for being a Skrull was fascinating. He was telling the truth--he wasn't a Skrull, and none of his teammates were either, although he didn't know that TheVagrantKing (The Thing) had been recruited by the Super-Skrull. I really did feel bad for him then.

Al_Mattityahu: Johnny Storm, the Human Torch (Hero/Fantastic Four). Once the most fun-loving (some would say juvenile) member of the Fantastic Four, you are stunned and outraged by Reed’s murder. The Skrulls will pay!

Nova Blast: If you are night-killed, you will also kill your attacker. If you are sent to the Negative Zone (i.e., lynched), you will kill one of those who voted for you (selected randomly). This is a defensive ability.

Flame On!: Once during the game, you may send me a pm with the name of a player you wish to target during the night phase. That player will be night-killed. This power ignores any defensive abilities possessed by your target, as well as any powers used by other players to protect your target from night-kills.

TheVagrantKing: Ben Grimm, the Thing (Hero/Fantastic Four). Those lousy Skrulls killed your best friend. It’s Clobbering Time!

It’s Clobbering Time!: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will use your immense strength to restrain that player, preventing them from using their powers or taking any action for the night (i.e., roleblocking them).

Mindreader: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will subject that player to an intensive telepathic scan and learn whether they are a Hero or Skrull.

The Independents

TMNT99: Kl’rt, the Super Skrull (Independent/Skrull). Your numerous defeats at the hands of humans (most notably, the Fantastic Four) have led most Skrulls to see you as a washed-up has-been. You are determined to have your revenge, on both the humans who have humiliated you in the past and those Skrulls who now ostracize you.

You win when you (and your thralls, if any) are the only players remaining in the game.

Vengeance!: Each night, if you are not using your Hypnotism power (see below), you must pm me with the name of a player. You will kill that player. If you have recruited thralls, you may select one of them to make the kill instead.

Hypnotism: You’re famous (or infamous, if you prefer) for having all of the powers of the Fantastic Four, but many forget that you’re also capable of imposing your will on weaker minds. Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. That player will become a thrall loyal to you (i.e., be recruited), and you will be able to communicate via pm with each other. You may use this power three times during the game.

But be warned: The same methods used by Skrull Infiltrators to render themselves undetectable by telepathic means also enable them to resist your Hypnotism power. Others may also be able to resist your will. If a Hypnotism attempt fails, your target will learn your identity.

Hard to Kill: Between your awesome powers and your intimate knowledge of Skrull tactics, you are quite capable of defending yourself from Skrull Infiltrators. You are immune to night-kills by Skrull Infiltrators. This is a defensive ability.

Easily the most powerful character in the game. TMNT99 was doing quite well, and I was much entertained by his success in convincing people to vote for the Human Torch, who they knew to be a bomb! I really wished that the random number generator had come up differently when the Human Torch's Nova Blast went off, as TMNT99 played very well, and it seemed like such a shame to have to kill him just as he was about to unleash his killing spree.

Amora’s best friend: Helmut Zemo (Independent). Once a villain, you realize now that to save the world, you must take it over. Whatever the outcome of the struggle between the Heroes and the Skrulls, you are this world’s best hope.

You win if you are still alive when either the Heroes or the Skrull Infiltrators achieve their win condition.

Moonstones: You control both of the Moonstones, powerful alien artifacts that grant you power over space and time. Each night, you may pm me with the names of two players. Anybody who targets one player will be misdirected to the other, and vice versa. Furthermore, any votes for one player in the next day phase will be applied to the other (although this will not show up in any vote counts), and vice versa. You may not target any player with this power two nights in a row.

Biz567: Dmitri Smerdyakov, the Chameleon (Independent), posing as Moon Knight. A master of disguise with self-esteem issues, you devised a brilliant plan to kill Spider-Man. As part of that plan, you infiltrated this gathering of heroes, posing as Moon Knight. Had it succeeded, no one would have ever dismissed you as a Z-list villain again!

Unfortunately, you did not expect the Skrulls to attack, or for the Baxter Building to go into lockdown mode (see the Introductory write-up when the game thread opens). Now, you’re trapped in the Baxter Building with a bunch of superheroes and Skrulls, just hoping to survive and maybe get a chance to kill your nemesis, Spider-Man!

You win if you are still alive when either the Heroes or the Skrull Infiltrators achieve their win condition. Furthermore, Spider-Man must also be dead, whether by your hand or otherwise.

Master of Disguise: If investigated, you will be perceived as a Hero (at least, most of the time, you will be).

Death Trap: During a night phase, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will set a cunning death trap for that player (e.g., poison, time bomb, etc.). The death trap will activate after every 300 posts, killing your target.

For game purposes, the death is considered to take place at the end of the day phase in which 300 posts are reached (i.e., your victim may continue to post and vote normally after the 300th post and will only find out that he’s dead when the Day phase write-up is posted).

Once you pm me with a player’s name, you may NOT change your mind. You may only pm me with a new target in the night phase after the death trap activates.

I liked the story behind this character a lot. The idea of a Z-list villain about to make his big move just as everything goes to hell was hilarious to me.

The Kree Empire’s Central Military and Intelligence Directorate has ordered you to monitor the activities of the treacherous Skrulls on this backwards mudball of a planet. Recently, you discovered some kind of Skrull plot, and using a pair of image inducers, you have infiltrated this gathering of Earth’s heroes.

You may communicate via pm with your fellow Kree (CarlosMucha and Ignatz Mouse). You win when only Kree remain in the game.

As long as both of you are alive, if either of you are investigated by certain players, both of you will be perceived as Heroes.

Ignatz Mouse: Captain Won-Darr (Independent/Kree), posing as Medusa. You’ve killed dozens, perhaps hundreds, of Skrulls over the years. You enjoy your job very much.

Using an image inducer, you have infiltrated this gathering of Earth’s heroes, pretending to be Medusa, Queen of the Inhumans (Hero/Inhuman).

Espionage: Each night, you must pm me with the name of a player. You will kill that player. You may choose to have Lieutenant Mer-Ekell do the killing instead; however the Lieutenant will not be able to use his power.

CarlosMucha: Lieutenant Mer-Ekell (Independent/Kree), posing as Karnak. A loyal and brave subject of the Kree Empire, you know that the vile Skrulls must be obliterated. You are prepared to follow Captain Won-Darr to the ends of the universe.

Using an image inducer, you have infiltrated this gathering of Earth’s heroes, pretending to be Karnak of the Inhuman Royal Family (Hero/Inhuman).

Devotion to Duty: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. That player will be protected from night kills. You may not use this power if you are chosen by Captain Won-Darr to kill instead.

They did quite well, despite some bad luck--biz targeting Carlos with a bomb, and then Ignatz and DarkCorsair killing each other simultaneously.

If I remember right, da-Craig-O was targeted for night kills twice and managed to make his shapechanger rolls both times.

Webheadman: Sam Wilson, the Falcon (Hero/Unaffiliated). While you’re more comfortable dealing with street-level villains, you’ve also been an Avenger as well. When the planet’s threatened by little green shapeshifting men, it’s time to step up.

You win when all threats to the Heroes are eliminated.

Heart of a Hero: Each night, you may send me a pm with the name of a player. You will protect that player from night kills. However, there is a chance that you might be killed doing so.

Eyes Like a Hawk, er, Falcon: On the bright side, if you survive while protecting your target, you will know the identity of the would-be killer.

Unknown352: Namor (Hero/Unaffiliated). Atlantis is in danger. You won’t tolerate that and are willing to take extreme measures to defend your kingdom.

You win when all threats to the Heroes are eliminated.

Avenging Son of Atlantis: Each night, you may send me a pm with the name of a player. That player will be night-killed.

pbdeberry: T’Challa, the Black Panther (Hero/Unaffiliated). Monarch of Wakanda and one of the most brilliant men on the planet, you managed to rescue Reed Richards’ scanner from the ruins of his lab (see the Introductory write-up for more details when the game thread opens). What may be Earth’s last, best hope is in your hands.

You win when all threats to the Heroes are eliminated.

Reed’s Scanner: Each night, you may send me a pm with the name of a player. You will learn whether that player is a Hero or a Skrull.

Stealth: Alternatively, you may send me a pm stating that you wish to use this power, which will give you a 50% chance of being unable to be targeted by anyone for that night phase. To activate this power, you must send me a pm stating that you wish to use it. You may not use Reed’s Scanner if you choose to use this power. This power is a defensive ability.

pbdeberry was the only true cop in the game, by which I mean that he couldn't be fooled by Skrull Infiltrators (except the Don).

Rokk_Krinn: Matthew Murdock, Esq., Daredevil (Hero/Unaffiliated). You can usually tell when someone’s lying by listening to heart rhythyms, but the Skrulls have found some way to counter this power. However, you have other senses, honed by years of battling the Kingpin, to assist you.

You win when all threats to the Heroes are eliminated.

Enhanced Senses: Each night, you may send me a pm with the name of a player. Using your enhanced senses, you will track that player and learn who they targeted that night.

Objection!: Once during the game, you may save a player from being sent to the Negative Zone (i.e., lynched). This power must be activated before a majority has been reached. No votes for the player you choose to save will be counted for the day phase when you activate your power.

No, Rokk didn't have a "Lie Detector" power, and it was a fascinating bluff to watch. He was recruited by The Super Skrull, but that lasted for a day. Oddly enough, despite being investigated or tracked multiple times, that never happened when he was actually evil (i.e., when he was a recruit).

Using your power to phase through the force field that now surrounds the Baxter Building, you now search for your friends, hoping to save them from the Skrulls.

You win when all threats to the Heroes are eliminated.

Intangible: Each night, you may pm me with the name of a player. You will turn intangible and investigate their room. These events will always be described in the write-up, possibly providing clues to your target’s identity.

badu777: The Mad Thinker (Not a hero, but against the Skrulls), posing as Machine Man (Hero/NextWave). You have uploaded your consciousness into a robot body, one that looks exactly the same as the hero, Machine Man. By posing as Machine Man, you have infiltrated this gathering of heroes in order to strike at the Fantastic Four.

However, your plans were interrupted by the Skrull attack (see the Introductory write-up when the game thread opens). You quickly realized that it would be a bad thing if the Skrulls conquered Earth.

Consequently, for now you have decided to side with the Heroes in an alliance of convenience against the Skrulls. Of course, due to your previous encounters with the Fantastic Four and other heroes, you have decided not to tell them who you really are.

You are not a Hero, but having thrown your lot in with them for now, you win when all threats to the Heroes have been eliminated.

Post-Hypnotic Suggestion: During the so-called superhero “Civil War,” you teamed up with the Puppet Master to manipulate certain events. This proved to be quite a learning experience, allowing you to refine and strengthen your own techniques for mind control.

During a night phase, you may pm me with the names of two players. You will implant a post-hypnotic suggestion in the mind of the first player, causing him to target the second player that night. You may use this power three times during the game.

Android Body: Transferring your consciousness into a robot body is a trick you’ve used many times. If you are sent to the Negative Zone (i.e., lynched), you have a 50% chance of escaping your fate by transferring your consciousness into H.E.R.B.I.E. Doing so will end the day phase without a lynch.

I loved the role! I just role claimed all wrong! All I should have done:

"Guys, I checked out Spider-Man last night to make sure. He is not with us, he's a friggin' skrull"

Argue about it. Get him lynched hopefully. Right before you locked the thread:

"Sorry, had to do it. I'm really Chameleon, I needed him dead! But I'm with the town, human after all!"

Or something like that.

Yeah, to be honest, your role claim was a big benefit to the town. I convinced Ronin to copy Namor so that he could night kill you before you could get to me. I knew if I tried to arrange a lynch against you and failed, I would have a bomb under my pillow that night. Once Clint copied Namor, he became a killing machine.

I had lots of fun playing up my roleclaim early, and vouching for Carlos, and then playing as if betrayed. Also, his supposed first night kill of a skrull was actually me! I had him defend a couple other players to give us some credibility, but not only did that not end up showing up, he got blown up (and revealed!) mid game, and I had to change tactics. da-Criag-o was on the right track after I shot at him, but we were so thick with suspected Skrull suspects that passed. And I played up the "Carlos is Back" thing to at least buy another day or two.

This has been the most fun Mafia I've been in yet... thanks all!

I'm thinking about running another game, although I haven't decided on anything. For what it's worth, here are the ideas that I've been ruminating over:

1. Skrull Invasion 2: Doom Strikes Back! The Skrulls threaten Earth, which as we all know, rightfully belongs to Victor von Doom. Worse still, they have robbed Doom of his rightful vengeance against the accursed Richards and his family! Doom will teach the Skrulls the folly of their ways!

2. Sinestro Corps War mafia: Frankly, I have no idea how this would work exactly, but it was a cool story, and if there's a way to make this work as a mafia game, I would love to run it. Maybe it could focus on the part where Hal, Guy, John, and the Lost Lanterns are on Qward, trying to free Ion and Kyle. They'd be the mafia, and the Sinestro Corps would be town.

3. Wolverine mafia: This is an off-the-wall idea that occured to me in one of my wackier moments. The hook is that everybody is Wolverine, albeit from a different era or universe. The mafia would be the evil versions of Wolverine--e.g., Zombie Wolverine, Wolverine when he was brainwashed into working for HYDRA in "Enemy of the State", Wolverine when he was brainwashed into being one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, etc. The town would be the good versions of Wolverine--e.g. classic X-Men Wolverine, New Avengers Wolverine, young James Howlett right after his claws popped out for the first time, etc.

4. A mafia game where all of the characters have been both villain and hero. For example, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Hal Jordan, Songbird, the Cassandra Cain Batgirl, etc. The mafia would be composed of characters from the time they were evil. I don't have a catchy name for this one, but the idea is similar to the Skrull game--you may know who the other players are, but you don't really know if they're town or mafia.
