Since i have not been keeping up with the game I went to see Rokk to see if he was corrupt. Hence I wanted to check my gut feeling, but I could not get in to see him. If I sounded threatening, sorry, I was just doing an impression of how I see my character would act. A backwoods, oil drilling Congressman. I'm willing to shake hands with you and find the real corrupt congress people.

There is a difference between agreeing with someone and being on their side. I agree that African Americans and other minorities get treated poorly, but I'm not for the radical minority group who want to kill everyone who may have oppressed them 100+ years ago.

I agree the poor are important and we should help them in their plight. I'm not on the side of Robin Hood though who helps the poor by illegally stealing from the rich. I agree that crime is bad. I do not support the Punisher in his war on crime as he goes about killing criminals which I do not agree with.

You supressed a confident smile as you entered his office, which was only fitting, seeing as his secretary immediately informed you he had already gone home for the day.

It's crunch time in Congress. Time to hit the floor and earn that money!

New Rules

1) Taking Care of Business - You must show up in the Senate every day to take part in the hearings, lawmaking, debates, etc. What this means in game terms is that you must post at least once per Day phase. Failure results in removal due to not being re-elected to office.

2) In a Democracy, He With the Most Votes Wins (er, Loses) - At the end of each Day phase, if a majority is not reached for impeachment, whichever senator has the most votes gets impeached instead. If two senators are tied, they both get the hook. Please keep in mind that votes can still be changed or withdrawn.

It's a tough world out there, so you never know what else might happen...

The duplicity of the system has caused me to loose faith in it. I feel I can effect better change from the private sector. To answer you Anti, I am basically a vigilante. Because this game has been lynch free I have been basically 'shotgunning' my vig 'kills' based on gut feelings. After hearing the verdict, the look on Senator Broadway's face (a perpetual scowl) did not change. "Fine. You want to get rid of me so you can play 'Boys in the Treehouse?' Go right ahead. But I'm not going without a fight." With that, she threw a manila folder on the table. "I believe you will find enough evidence linking Senator Aginn to illegal campaign contributions to keep him busy in state and federal courts for quite some time." Before she rose to leave, you finally saw what a smile looked like on her face, and it wasn't warm and fuzzy. Then the Senate began what would end up being the second impeachment of the day.

Today was a freakin disaster in the Senate!

Thanks to Renee, you now had a clue about what you were doing. You were so thankful, you even let her out early. You were about to get elbows deep in documents when you heard a noise coming from the reception room.

“Renee, is that you?” you asked. “You forget something?” When there was no response, you walked to your door and opened it up. You could distinctly hear scuttling, but what really got your attention was the overpowering odor of dust. Confused, you scanned the room until your eyes fell on something coming out of the shadows.

“No!” you protested, “This can’t be. You’re... you’re...” You screamed when it rushed at you.

The EMTs that arrived on the scene later said you died of a heart attack.

You grew suspicious when most of the files you were looking for were not in the stacks. Your feelings were confirmed when the materials were listed as being checked out on the log, but without a corresponding signature. Somebody was covering something up.

I was waiting to see which way you went. I was the one giving Uknown the information, why do you think he vouched for me. You sat at your desk, contemplating the problem at hand. “Am I a bad person? No, am I a bad senator? Have I taken money? Bought votes? Used the law illegally to my advantage? Slept with people’s wives? Husbands? Garden implements?” You furrowed your brow for several moments. “No. I have not. I guess I’ve done a little illegal gambling in Fantasy Irish Hurling League, but that doesn’t really count. No, I’m a good senator.” You relaxed considerably.

It was at that point that you noticed your office door was open. Funny, you swore it was closed. A noise from a darkened corner got your attention, and a figure emerged from the shadows.

“That’s impossible!” you shouted in horror. “You don’t exist!”

When your secretary came back from her bathroom break, she screamed after seeing the look of terror on your dead face. The coroner determined you had died of a massive stroke, but she would always claim you died of fright.

You were in your office, putting the finishing touches on the envelope for Senator Cage. It contained all the evidence needed to implicate him in an illegal entry visa ring for Antarctic mail-order brides. After getting rid of him, you’d figure out a way to go after Senator State, who you just knew was the Big Spoiled Cheese.

Just then, you heard a noise from the corner of the dimly-lit room. You peered in that direction and saw a grotesque form slink towards you. It was so unearthly, so frightful.

“Wait a second, are you a... gerrymander?” were the last words to escape your lips.

Between that and the fact that ABF wanted to bounce me, I was sure that something was up. Oh well...after not having a single lynch for something like 6 days I knew we were in trouble. We only lynched 1 mafia and I 'killed' two of them along with the serial killer. The rest were mod killed.

Some details on the game:

As everybody learned from Day 8 (Second Session), there was an Event Dial in play for the game.

On Night 3, 3 random players with passive powers (I'd like to thank St. Cuthbert for being my randomizer) were sent a PM telling them they were invited to the President's secret Panel on Congressional Corruption and strongly suggested to name somebody they thought was corrupt. It ended up being shadow40, Darius_Dax, and Doombot, and the people they named were the ones listed in the Washington Post article the next morning (they didn't know this, but had they refused to give a name, their own name would've appeared in the article). The thing I thought was pretty funny about this was that all 3 names that appeared were actually Corrupt senators, Rokk being recruited that very night! Considering how badly the townies had been doing on investigations (I'll get back to this), this was a great bone thrown the Town's way, but they didn't capitalize on it.

On Night 6, three random Republicans (loganspeedo, Rokk, Iron Ham) were asked by President Jass to try to impeach a scapegoat the next day. They had to vote for the same person, could not say the real reason why, and could not change their vote. Since two of the people picked were Corrupt at the time, it pretty much guaranteed the target would be Town, but the ploy did not work.

The thing you did not know about Second Session starting on Day 8 is that a Gerrymander begin killing a random target each night from that point onwards (if you don't know what a gerrymander is, Wiki it). Once again, thanks to St. Cuthbery for picking random numbers (which did not correspond with the 'players remaining' lists, no matter how badly he wanted to kill Rokk).

As you can see, I had a lot of things in mind when I created the characters:

Women - I put in the post restrictions here to create paranoia for the rest of the players. I wanted to see how starting a mason group half Town/Half mafia would turn out. I thought it was priceless when Doombot (who was town, but unknowingly a Miller) was defending Iron Ham (who was by then Corrupt).

Knees and Toes - I put in their post restriction to give Bongwater some clue as to who his targets should be. It sucked that I had to modkill one woman and one K+Ts dude, but they did get three strikes. I'm not sure I would use post restrictions in another mafia.

Serial Killer - It's rough to be a SK, so I wanted a win condition easier than being the only person left, so I did the 'kill 4 specific people' one.

Ken Eddy - I loved the idea of a Partisan Cop, who detected Town/Corrupt depending on party affiliation. I'm not sure anybody ever picked up on it, and a ton of Republicans died at the start.

Backups - As you can see, a lot of key roles (investigator, recruiter, partisan cop, blackmailer) all had backups. It ensured that the game would always have somebody doing something, but it also kept the action kinda thin at all times. I've already fixed that for The Lost Room, where powers are represented in multiples.

Handing Out Roles - At first, I pretty much did it by state: If you were from TX, you got the senator from TX. I did tweak it a bit, however. Since Antipathy and Rokk get targeted more than an archery target, I gave them Town on purpose. I also made the starting Corrupt half-vets/half-newbies so newer guys could get some experience under mentors.

THE TWIST- I don't know if the Town noticed, but in this game, the mafia didn't have any kill/removal powers; only the Town did. I figure corrupt senators wouldn't want to get rid of the clean people and put more light on themselves, they'd just want to corrupt everyone around them. Besides recruiting, however, they could frame innocent senators to throw suspicion away from themselves. I think the deck was stacked against the mafia in this game, but they still won.

Why? Next I'll discuss the pathetic start of the Town...

That's why for a while I truly thought that we were all town and mafia and that we were just killing each other. Especially since there were nights without any kills or any sign of a doctor doing protection. I figured Groovy was making a statement. :grin:

The Town did not have a whole lotta luck at the beginning of the game. A list of people and who they used their powers on by each day:

loganspeedo (investigator) - didn't work, Town, Town, Town, Town, Town, Town. It wasn't until Night 7 that he got a result of Corrupt, and then it was a Miller. He never investigated an actual Corrupt senator.

MSU - didn't work, Town, didn't work. He had the bad luck of targeting Antipathy on odd nights, but since he never targeted a Republican, he never would've gotten a Corrupt result.

shadow40 - (got investigating power Night 4) Town, Corrupt (but it was actually a townie), didn't work, Corrupt (but actually Miller), Town. He actually investigated himself the final night, worried he was Corrupt and didn't know it.

Darius_Dax - (got investigating power on Night 6) didn't work, didn't work. He would've discovered Rokk was Corrupt on Night 8 had he not been killed.

And who did the killer/blackmailer get rid of?

I still hate that I took out ABF. I should have known better, although he seemed like the best target as the ghost killer. However, with a little more luck, it would have been funny to be the only Senator left standing. Would that have made me Emporer?

This game joins Simpsons newb and BTTF4 as the games where I was there right at the end and lost. :)
