CRITICAL HIT ISSUE 6 (http://www.hcrealms.com/temp/CriticalHit.2.6.pdf)

Good day my loyal readers,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! With a great way to open up the new year we bring you another edition of the only magazine dedicated to HeroClix. The JLA and AVENGERS matches are long removed and we are currently in the next run of events with MUTATIONS AND MONSTERS. With that we bring you a MONSTER themed issue. Please bare with us as personally I took some time off due to family, holidays and extra work. We are back in rotation and I hope you enjoy this issue the writers put so much work into.

At the end of this issue you will see something very special. It will be a teaser of what is to come around January 23rd with another special Critcal Hit XTRA XTRA. I hope you all enjoy as much as we love to tease you :)

As always we are looking for writers from every gameline and want to give everyone some quality articles on their lines of favor. With our brothers at INQUEST closing shop we now must fill that void and I am looking to make the magazine bigger and better than ever before. Come be a part of something grande as we look to getting bigger.

Well enough hearing me ramble, let's get to the magazine you all love!

Hope you all enjoy the issue. I think we put together something special again!

I wish I could have thought of a better ending to the "The Thing vs Professor X" joke I put in there.

congrats to Bill and all the writers.

I'm hereby speculating that "**** Stride" is "Giant Stride," a cheap feat that "fixes" giant adjacency. That would explain why the title is half blurred and why the prereq is a symbol.

Can someone explain the rule to me where it says if you go first, then a Cuckoo can raise their defense?? I've been playing the Cuckoos a lot recently and have never heard that their defense can be increased. And why can only the player who goes first do it?

Without the actual text, what would the point cost give you? Hard to determine if something is worth the cost if you can't tell what it does.

All will become clear with Critical Hit XTRA XTRA on January 23rd. I cannot confirm or deny any other speculation about these feats.

The Cuckoo's special power "Hive Mind" allows one to modify a combat value until the end of the *round*, not the end of the turn. The person going first (who goes first in every round) can increase their Cuckoos' defense and have that increase in defense still be in effect during their opponent's turn. The other player cannot.

And we love you for the evil, Rock.

Man, Monster Society of Evil... Superman Enemy ATA perhaps? I only speculate with Mr. Mind having the SE TA in the first place.

Cannonball, Fall Back, Maneuver, Opportunist, Sidestep, and #### Stride. I'm liking the names, at least. :)

Hmmm, what's the connection between the Monster Society of Evil & Jan 23rd?

Well it is my ex-wife's birthday.

She used to say her birthday was "as easy to remember as one, two, three." Man, that annoyed me.

Oh well, she's dead now.

Not really. I just like saying that.

Oh yeah! Great Issue. Thanks!

Really cool although for moment I was going what Wizkids moved Crisis up a whole month so it wont compete with Nightmares then I realized it would be another Crit Hit (which when you think about might be better as they dont dissapoint)

Thanks for all the hard work you guys do. The Mag looks great.

I'm really interested in seeing those feats on the 23rd.
My interest is really peaked by Sidestep.

I entered a feat called sidestep into the create a card contest. I wonder if it will be similar. It already looks like the prereq is going to be different.

Here is what I submitted:

—Card type: feat
—Card name: Sidestep
—Prerequisites: Super Senses
—Point cost: 5
—Rules text: Choose a Character. Whenever this character makes a successful Super Senses role this character may make a move, that ignores characters bases, up to two spaces in any direction.

Great job on the Hero's dials. But I am curious as to How Danger became a Super Rare. I thought that she was a Rare. Did Heroclix change that or is it just a miss print.

Just a warning to people. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the rarities or even points costs listed for most of the dials in the article. Most of them seem to be wrong. Looks like a cut and paste job but somebody didn't change all the details. Most of the rares are listed as super rares and it says Professor X is 230 points and has no range. I think those heroes dials are way too extreme. This is why you never let people create dials for themselves. I love the show but I don't remember them doing much of anything other than Sylar and Hiro. None of the others show any awareness of their powers and their possibilities at all. Claire should have a defence of about 12 and Peters' first couple of clix should be blank because he usually just stands around like an idiot and gets himself punched, choked whatever.
Liked the play tips on the mutations and monsters pieces though, and the skrull team too. Can't comment on the other stuff as I don't play any of those games.

The person going first (who goes first in every round) can increase their Cuckoos' defense and have that increase in defense still be in effect during their opponent's turn. The other player cannot.

Is that true? Is it to be errata'd and fixed? That basically screws over player 2 ROYALLY.

I love the show but I don't remember them doing much of anything other than Sylar and Hiro.

And that is why these two have the most detailed dials in the article.

None of the others show any awareness of their powers and their possibilities at all.

Except for Sylar and Peter, the other dials are all pretty basic.
The powers that are there do represent their abilities as shown in the series.

Claire should have a defence of about 12

As explained in the article, she has a high defense because as soon as she takes a hit, she's already healing. This was the best way to represent her ability.

and Peters' first couple of clix should be blank because he usually just stands around like an idiot and gets himself punched, choked whatever.

LOL. This is true. But, I decided to just represent his powers. If I did as you suggested, I think the fanboys would have ALL come out to complain!

And that would be totally my fault. I guess I didn't put enough QA into the dial images. I have corrected Professor X and Danger for the future.

I basically pull in the dial/special stats and image. Then I have to manually type in the cost and range -- and that is where I have screwed up twice.

I will take extra special caution in the future.

Thanks,

You've been on the realms long enough to know that people would still complain. I can see it now..."No feat should have a point cost of 25, no matter what it does!...2 points? It can't be good if that is all it costs...It should have cost 5 instead of 6. All feats should be in multiples of 5..." :p

Generally speaking I really like Critical Hit, but that list of custom Heroes heroclix, well, that was just, not....so....good.

Where the heck did Jessica ever exhibit impervious. She's strong, not indestructable.

Hiro was just so very powerful and way undercosted. Also, there are redundant powers there. If you are going to give a character energy shield and combat reflexes, then just raise the defensive number. It really does the same thing.

I just felt these were a little lame.

no offense.

I based it on two items. The first being that she came away unscathed after the two thugs visited her in the garage. The second being that she came away unscathed from D.L.'s gang's lair. All those gang members and not one bullet or knife wound? Also, she's punched through doors without having her knuckles all bleeding.

I noticed that I did give him both of these powers after I sent the article out when Invulnerable would have sufficed. My bad.

I also wanted multiple powers that forced a lot of dice rolls rather than just putting Impervious with a very high Defense value. This was because in the series he was blindsided once in a while.

You forgot two very important and tv-accurate powers:

SYLAR
---------------------
Special Power (move): Super Duper Senses: When an opponent attacks you with a gun, you instantly detect this and can stop the bullets and other high-velocity attacks.

Special Power (attack): Not so Super Duper Senses: When an asian with a sword appears ten-feet away from you, announces that he will attack, then takes 5 seconds to charge you, you can do nothing.

PETER PETRELLI
----------------------
Special Power: Attack: Petrelli Plot Hole -- When this character starts to glow with radiation, it MUST use Pulse Wave that deals full damage when used. If a cheerleader or brother is nearby with a gun, or if you can fly, or if there is a huge water fountain next to you... well, none of it helps apparently.

Well we can't account for all those little piddly things, now can we? If WK did then there would be ones such as

SUPERMAN
When an object is thrown at Superman the distraction of ducking will reduce his defense by -1 until the next attack or the end of the turn whichever comes first.

If Superman cannot see through an object held by or adjacent to an opposing figure, he must stay at least 4 squares away. If within four squares, an opposing figure may open the box revealing the kryptonite within -- Superman loses all powers on his dial, becomes earthbound. He takes a click of damage at the end of each turn he's within 4 squares of the kryptonite.

HULK
At the end of a turn, if Betty Ross is within 4 squares of The Hulk, Then do the following: if Hulk's dial is on a click prior to his strongest click, put the dial on his strongest click and then give him a click of damage, else give him a click of damage.

OR BETTER YET

At the end of a turn, it Betty Ross is within 4 squares of The Hulk, replace The Hulk with a Bruce Banner pog.

A lot of Superheroes
"NAME THE SUPERHERO" cannot KO an opposing figure on their last click of life.

SPIDER-MAN
Spider-man has Leap/Climb. When Spider-man is given a Move Action, roll a 1d6. On the result of 1, Spider-man runs out of Web fluid and loses Leap/Climb. When Spider-man is given an Attack action, roll 1d6. On the result of 1, Spider-man runs out of Web Fluid -- his range value is reduced to 0 and the number of targets is reduced to 1.
