Congrats and THANKS to the New York Giants from a Green Bay Packers fan!*
*I count the Giants among some of my favorite NFL teams.

Is there anything sweeter than beating the Cowboys in the playoffs?
Well, I made a wager today with a Packers fan on the NFC finals. Quite frankly, I really want the G-men to win it...but if they don't, that's ok. Nothing wrong with Favre and company. I said in October I'd like to see Favre put an end to the Patriots perfect season, and then retire as Super Bowl MVP. So, regardless of who wins Sunday's game (ahem, Go Giants), I just hope the NFC wins the whole shebang.

Well I think that the Packers will win, but would rather see the Giants so if the Chargers win (which of course they will :noid: ) we will see who made a better choice in the '04 draft. :)

They should've done it the final week of the season...the good news is that the Pats will be the home team. The Giants have been a much better road team for some reason.
I'd like to thank Green Bay on behalf of the Patriots, for handing us the Superbowl. :p
Also, congrats to Tynes for barely keeping yourself from getting instantly replaced next seasons with that OT kick.

One missed kick was his fault. The other was a bad snap. Given how windy and frickin' cold it was...it was a miracle the kickers didn't break their foot on the ball when they tried to kick/punt.

I agree that the snap was bad on the second field goal attempt, but the hold was there when it needed to be. Tynes got out of rhythm because of it, and while I can understand that, he is getting paid to make those kicks.
However, it is always nice to see someone able to get redemption. I wouldn't have wanted to be him in the offseason if the Giants lost in overtime because of his missed kicks.

It always makes me laugh that somebody is considered the "home" team in a neutral setting. Really it's a road game for both teams. And while the Giants have certainly been good on the road, the Pats have been perfect on the road. ;)

By the way, over the past few weeks, the Giants have the better road record (9-0). Patriots are "only" 8-0.

All the more reason for me to root against them.
Go Giants. Funny that my desire to see a perfect season runs directly opposed to my desire to see the Giants win the Super Bowl. But I'm a Giants fan through and through. Sorry Pats, but that perfect season has to come to an end now. So close too.

Wow, I didn't think there was anyone else who was as hopeful/optimistic as I am about the Super Bowl.
As for field goals, Giants fans need only think back to a few years ago against San Francisco to realize how bad things really could have been.

Hmmm the Dynasties of the GreenBay Packers, Steelers, 49's, and Cowboys NEVER had a loss when they went to the super bowl....guess the Patriots don't quite make it into that group anymore!! They seem more like John Elway's Broncos now!...good but not in the upper tier!!

Absolutely agree with you. It was a helluva game, and it was all decided in the last 5 minutes. When the Giants threw the touchdown, it vindicated Burgess (since he had been pretty much sucking all game long.) Excellent victory for the NYG. I am not a fan, but they earned the victory with respect!!

Um.....what?
The teams you just mentioned....all of them have had super bowl losses, with the exception of the 49ers....... :noid:
And the Patriots had lost a Super Bowl well before today, already....they lost in 96-97 to the Packers.
Not only that, but quite frankly, the Patriots are STILL going to be the most feared team in football next season. Bet on it.
Look, I'm a Steelers fan. I was more than happy to see the Pats lose today. But it's nice to get the facts straight, if you're intending to try and trash talk a team. :tired:

sorry let me get it straight for ya...we are talking dynasties...not franchises
The Green Bay Dynasty owned the 60's and continued that with the 2 first Super Bowl wins....no losses.
The Steeler Dynasty of the 70s were 4-0.....no losses.
San Fransisco Dynasty had the Montana/Young teams and you can say that they were the same team either a 5-0, 4-0, or 3-0 no matter which teams you include or exclude over the long decade plus stretch of their dominance.
The Cowboy Dynasty of the 90's won 3 times in 4 years.
facts r facts...I do not see any losses for those Dynasties. {a Franchise is a franchise...but a dynasty is a dominating force for its day}
Note...the Buffalo Bills were such a dominating force, but they punctuated that with losses, so to with Philadelphia....and Elway was 2-3...but the early teams were different from his later superbowl teams
The Patriots have punctuated their chance for a dynasty with a loss. Will they have the same historical star-power as the 4 established Dynasties....that will be seen...but teams that played vs the 4 Dynasties were mostly just beat down. Most of the teams that the Pats won over felt like the Pats had good fortune...rather than they got beat down.
It seems a significant part of the legacy they leave behind...They did not have the massive dominating wins of those other eras
oh and now that spygate will continue...it just gets ugly.

The Patriots are still definitely more of a dynasty than the Cowboy's of the 90's, and an 18-0 record achievement is nothing to sneeze at. Not to mention the possibilities of more bowl returns, or the greater difficulties of this occuring with the recent set up.
Sadly 18-0 all had to come to an end at the hands of my adopted NFL team.
I can't route for my own home team, don't ask. Lets just say it claims to be an elite team that is even better than the super-bowl winning team this year, and I traded in my fanhood for this team for better or worse, for the Giants, over 18 years ago. I have my reasons.

Congrats to the Giants... they outplayed the Patriots and deserved to win.
Seconding this comment. As a Pats fan, it was sad to see them lose, but I have to give all credit to the Giants players and coaches. They came in with an excellent game plan and they executed that plan. They were the first team that played a game against the Pats for the full 60 minutes. In the other close Pats wins, the other team seemed to run out of steam after 50 or 55 minutes while the Pats continued all the way. Not last night. The Giants came to play and did an excellent job.
I expected a close game and wasn't disappointed (well, except for the final score :ermm: ).
So again, congrats to the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.

I'm a Jersey boy and so I'm used to seeing the Giants choke when it comes down to the wire.
So, when we get down to three minutes in the 4th and they give up a touchdown to the Pats, I was like, "Well, time to turn in. Eli's going to throw the ball right to Moss on the first play."
When Eli made that thirty-something yard pass, I was in WTF mode. When he made the touchdown pass to Plaxico, things were thrown into the air.
Good job, Giants.
