View Full Version : Re-hab Vanilla Mafia sign-ups
I'm not sure when we'll be starting, so don't panic too much. I'm in one game right now, maybe 2 in a week, and maybe 3 if Rokk gets Secret Wars underway when he gets back. And I might be co-modding ANOTHER game. So, suffice to say, this isn't happening right away. And I'm not going to rush us into it just because we're all bored with closed threads, so don't worry about that either.
The theme? Go ahead, ask again. The theme? THERE IS NO THEME!! Buh...wha????? That's right. No theme. No characters. When you get the role PM from me, it's going to be telling you whether you're vanilla or not, and that's it. There will be nothing but a crime scene in the writeups, and there won't be a single clue to find in them. An overwhelming majority of people in this game will be Vanilla. That is to say, you will have no night or day abilities, whatsoever. This goes for both town AND mafia.
"Well, how do we play, then? We won't have any info!" Well, Mafia games are in a sad state of affairs lately because of this. The whole point of Mafia is to do things without having info, and putting trust into people blindly. That's where 99% of the action in Mafia should be taking place. Bluffing, lying, pressuring, distracting, etc. The idea behind this mafia game is to put you all into Rehab. That is.....to rehabilitate you all in playing the game without information. In essence, you're going to learn how to get really good at the game, regardless of what the mod hands you. And it'll all be the school of hard knocks.
If this is successful, this is something that I'll regurgitate every 3 months, so that we can continue to "rehab" players in this. If you guys are willing to give this a shot, and learn a few things about getting down and dirty in Mafia, then it is my belief that mods will have an easier time balancing out the games in the future.
"But I didn't get an ability, this is boring!" I've said this before, but I LOVE being vanilla. It enables me to put my neck out on the line, and really get nasty in a game, when, hey, if they kill me, the town loses a vanilla player. And if I can manage to scare the mafia into killing me when I don't have any abilities, I must be doing SOMETHING right. ;) Vanilla roles are only as fun as you let them be. I can assure you with 110% of my being that if you really give this a shot, and start learning how to look for BS in writings of other people, you are going to REALLY enjoy mafia, as if you hadn't even been playing the game yet.
The rules for Mafia can be found here: http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=221058
Sign-ups begin now. We'll re-assess a start date as of Friday of next week.
Also, it makes absolutely no difference how many we get signed up. I don't have a set number of characters, so the more, the merrier.
Who's willing to take up the challenge? :classic:

I'd like to play.
Vanilla is refreshing.
I should also say that I HIGHLY recommend this game for newbies. There's going to be very little to keep track of, for them.

I'm getting one of my friends to sign-up on the realms so he can play in this game. He's never played mafia before, so this should be a good start.

When you're older, I'll teach you what that song really means....and how to look up the lyrics to a song if you aren't sure you know the words.
But anyways, I'll play Thawmus.
Btw, you know what makes vanilla mafia games more challenging?
If you only know that people die, not who they were. Makes fake claiming a cop an actual possibility since you aren't proven wrong as soon as the lynch is over. ;)

Nah, there'll still be autopsies.
The thing is, all you'll know is whether they were mafia or not. Nothing past that.

The most telling thing about that "song" is the "warm it up" line. WHo wants a warm milkshake?
(Waits for inevitable responce)

Yeah, see, the point isn't really to make this a difficult mafia game. It's more just a return to the roots of the game, without having people that are able to roleblock, be bulletproof, evade people who misdirect, and have a one time night kill ability, all rolled into one.
Granted, by nature, this game is going to be more difficult than almost any other game that's been played thus far, but I think that goes without saying.
I'll play, this would've been a great one to have started on :/

FYI, Shaun of the Dead mafia, which I'm running after Kid's Show, will be loosely themed so that even though there are a good number of powers and all, guessing things from the write-ups will be virtually impossible because even if you guess the character, the powers don't necessarily make sense.
How are we feeling about a start date?
To be honest, after review, I don't see how this game is going to take much time for me to mod. So I'd like to know how you guys are. Are you really busy with other games, do you need some time for personal stuff?

Well my roots of this game were Peer's original mafia.
But every time I've played vanilla mafia, you didn't get to learn who people were when they died.

And we need to figure out who people are when they die. Otherwise, how do you base your decisions on past vote history, support for others' role claims, etc.

I'm good to go.
How are you guys feeling about Monday?
I have the day off, so I'll be able to write up the 2 roles I'm handing out (I'm kidding. There's like 3.... :noid: ), and PM everyone....with pretty much the location of the thread.
Hell, there's not much for me to do at all. If this is as easy to mod as I think it is, this is definitely something I might redo every couple months.

I'm good ASAP. :)
Also, I'm still accepting signups. There's no limit to the number of people we can take, so if you're interested, or you're dead in too many games, this is definitely one to try out.

I apologize for the wait. I have had a busy day today, and I'm not even at work!!!
I'll be taking care of everything and PMing everyone this evening. Not sure when, but it'll be before I go to bed tonight. Count on that much.
