I loved the first movie and every single one of my friends loved the first movie. It had a huge impact. It was cool, it was full of action, but it also had a story that was coherent and interesting with a touch of philosophy.
I had high hopes when I went to see the second movie and they were disappointed through and through.

They tried to do too much with this movie. The original was such an endearing classic, and the sequels throw dirt on that image.
6/10
For those of you who thought that the original was so Great (and Im one of them), go and rate it here on RtM, as surprisingly enough, alot of its ratings are so so to downright horrible.

I didn't care for the first one, but I could somewhat understand why others might enjoy it. This second one was a train wreck, it was so boring, just fight scenes strung together by bad dialogue. The philosophy parts were horrible, particularly the causality conversation which was downright embarrasing. Just a really bad movie, that I would certainly never sit through a second time.

I agree with the guy above me. This movie is a train wreck and Revolutions is nuclear holocuast. These movies take a very brilliant and groundbreaking scifi movie and rape it. Violently.
Well put me in the vast minority here, as personally I loved the original Matrix, and thought its sequels were all too bad (though obviously a far cry from what the original was). This was probably the least enjoyable to me of the series, didnt care for the jungle orgy scene, nor the architech, nor where the series went with this film, but there were definately cool parts I did like very much. Is this movie a shadow of the first film, yes, am I a bit disappointed in the direction this took, yes, is this movie Carp and on the level of some of the worst ever, Not on your life.
Matrix Reloaded - giving the first one a 9.25, Ill go with a 7 on this one, I think.
The problem with this movie is it hinges on the third. The last scene presented a HUGE oppourtunity to redeem the movie and set up a mind-boggling good finale to the trilogy. Except it didn't. I thought for sure based on the Architect's speech and Neo's powers manifesting outside the Matrix that all the clues were there:
- The entire resistance, Zion, etc, were just a sub-routine to keep the resistant minds happy and no one had ever really left the Matrix.
- Neo wasn't human but a program that collected the :Imperfections: of the Matrix (They even pretty much say just this)
- Every so often the NEO program brings about a climatic battle that effectively reboots the Matrix, cleaning it up and the cycle starts again with a new Neo.
- Therefore, Smith is actually the ONE prophesied because he really can destroy the Matrix.
- The final film would centre on Neo realising this, rising above his programming and letting Smith kill him so the Matrix could actually be destroyed.
This could have made the final film a very cool exploration of self-determination, free will and identity.
Instead it was just a crappy fight-fest and wasted any potential it had.
So for the 6 months before the 3rd film this got a really high rating from me. Then when I saw that it wasn't what I thought, it dropped down to a 2.

I give this film a -200. This thing was awful.
I also dock the first one half points for having the temerity to try to convince me that Keanu Reeves is some kind of messiah. If Keanu Reeves is Jesus, I'm taking the blue pill.
Yep, definately in the minority on this one. :)

Well we haven't reviewed Revolutions yet. I think we can break that lowest score for you.
Actually, I liked Revolutions a tiny bit more than Reloaded. :)

This is a classic example of when you make a sequel that diverts from the formula that made the original great. Don't worry DTM, I'll join you in the minority with this one. While I did have a problem with Reloaded, I thought it had some enjoyable parts. Most of the fighting was very entertaining and at least Smith did come back in this one. But that's really it. The acting wasn't good, the new direction of the story was all wrong and why did the architect look so much like Col. Sanders?
6.25/10. Making a sequel bigger than the original just for the sake of making bigger is a bad idea if it doesn't make sense. Period.
I nominate that everyone must at least give this a 5 for the outfit Monica Belluci was wearing. :):):):)

Monica Bellucci has been much much hotter in movies that weren't this god-awful, my good man.
imdb.com, here I come. :p

Kinda like an 8th grader trying to quote Derrida and confusing it with Tolstoy.

her role in the film was the WORST part of the movie..
4.5/10 because it did have SOME good scenes but that's about it.
She had a role? She spoke?? Mine senses were a bit distracted during her scenes, I think. :)
And really, this film was hardly garbage. A bit of a let down from the classic original film, but I feel it and Revolutions gets a raw deal really.
Hey DTM, I'm with you. I loved this movie. Great action scenes. Good story. Decent acting. 100 Agent Smith fight scene. The opening scene with Neo fighting the 3 Agents was golden:
Neo: Who was that?
Zion 'goon' 1: How did you know someone was here?
Zion 'goon' 2: He left this for you. He said you set him free?
Neo: Retreat to your exits, this meeting is over. Agents are coming.
Zion 'goon' 1: Agents!?!?!?!
Neo: Go, now!!!!
*sound of hammering on the door* door caves in.
Neo: Hiya fellas.
Agent 1: It's him.....
Agent 2: ...the anomaly...
Agent 3: ...do we proceed?
Agent 2: Yes...
Agent 3: ..he is still....
Agent 1: ...only human.
punch, kick, block parry
Neo: Hmmm? Upgrades.
Honestly, that was my favorite scene from any movie for a loooooong time. Add to that the car chase, the twins, the keymaker, the Merovingian, Trinity on a bike. Oh, and I liked the 'philosophy' part of it, the whole scene between Neo and the Architect was amazing.
Solid movie. 8.5/10
I actually just rewatched these all recently (they had a marathon on Christmas, along with LOTR and the Alien films) and Im redoing my rating of this one, which I apparently originally gave a 7, Im now going to an 8. Plenty of action and alot of fun overall, the Xion orgy scene and the confusing Architech speak dropped this one from me, but overall I really enjoyed it, and never really got why these last 2 Matrix films got such hate.

I waited for 14 years, for them to make a good LOTR movie, from my first reading of the Hobbit and LOTR. I was not disappointed in the least. Those movies were beyond my expectations, far beyond in fact. I of course saw all 3 in theatre, on release day no less. I of course own all 3 extended versions of the films, and am considering buying Blu-Ray copies to go with my new PS3 :p I do own the Saul Saul Zaentz original LOTR, (which never got finished) and I've read the Hobbit and LOTR no less than 14 times :surprised
The opening scene alone from The Two Towers, was worth the price of admission. That was the first DVD I put into my player when I bought my plasma TV in '08.
I can't wait for The Hobbit to come out *joygasm*
