View Full Version : Tired of trolling!

So I have been a troll on this board for several years really only using the trading section with any regularity. I believe that it is time for a change! I want to be a more active user. That being said where is the best place to start? I don't want to just throw out annoying information that no one cares about (yes I know that this is probably one of those times, but hey I'm at least trying)

So help me out you people who are forum gurus, guide me to activity!

I believe the term you are looking for is "lurking".

"Trolling" is posting to instigate fights.
"Lurking" is reading the board without posting.

If you feel like you have something constructive to add to a discussion, post it. If you really want to not be a lurker, it is up to you to start posting. It doesn't necessarily have to be threads you create, just in the overall taking part in conversation.

I'd say the first step is to familiarize yourself with the forum and the various different areas of discussion. For example, this thread was posted in the Pop Culture general discussion - which isn't really the best place for it, nor does this specific area get a lot of traffic.

Go read other areas and threads, and post replies to things that interest you.
You don't have to start out making new discussion threads - join discussions already in progress.

I've found (and been told) that learning to navigate and finding the appropriate forum for what you are looking for is the key. Once you get used to the different sections, the rest gets much easier.
Oh, and don't be shy. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

And to think that for all these years I thought trolling was riding in a bass boat and pulling a baited hook behind the boat.

Consider me enlightened.

Actually I live in Eastern North Carolina so I can go pee right in the middle of my yard and no one would see!

You're the sheep herder. You wait up on the mountains for months, watching over the flock. When a wolf comes in to eat the sheep, you chase away the wolf or strike a deal with it to share some of the tasty sheep flesh.

...or maybe you sew...

Who says I have to strike a deal with the wolf? We might already have a long-standing business relationship.
