View Full Version : Alistair MacLean
I'm re-reading a bunch of old Alistair MacLean books right now. Ice Station Zebra, The Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, South by Java Head, etc.
Gee whiz, I'd forgotten how good his stories are--lots of excitement and tension, plus some of the best plot twists ever. He showed a great sense of humor in his prose as well.
He used to be very, very popular, but nowadays few if any of his books seem to be in print.
That's too made, because he was a great storyteller who turned out some real classics.

Ice Station Zebra - never read it but it is one of my favorite early spy movies. Ernest Borgnine as a spy, tooo funny.

It's a fun movie. The book's a lot different, though. The movie really just uses the very basic story idea, then throws in new characters and a completely different ending.

I've read one book by him called Circus. I believe I might I might have a copy of Bear Island stashed somewhere waiting for me to stumble across it again.
The sad thing about these authors, when they pass away their books seem to disappear from the shelves.

Cool then maybe I should snag the book and check it out then. Because I enjoyed the movie big time.
For that matter I didn't even know there was a book.

Maybe for a short time, but then you and I come into a position where we REMEMBER these authors and can publish their works again. OR we introduce the NEXT generation to these great writers and THEY cause a resurgence of the works written by these men and women (kind of happening right now with works by Lovecraft and Robert Howard).
It is a cycle but it is up to us to see that it keeps moving!
