View Full Version : Would You Buy A Case Of Boosters If You Knew That The Complete Set Was In There?

I was thinking about this today and just wondered what the rest of you were thinking:
If every case from a set had either A) The complete set, B) A chase figure or C) Both would you buy a case for sure? Most of the people I know already do, but I also know a fair amount who just get a brick or random boosters and hope for luck.
I am sure I am biased since I already buy a case and so I would LOVE to know that the set AND a chase were in there. But just to get the entire set (including SRs) for a case...personally I think more people would spend the extra and get a case, with fingers crossed for a chase, happy that they know they are getting the set.
But what do you think?

If I new that they had a complete set in it then I would most likely buy it I had the money to spare. And a chase wouldn't make it worse;)

I pretty much buy a case of every set anyways, with the exception of MNM..... so I guess my answer would be yes.
Yes, every time which is more than I can say I have bought of recent sets.
I fell for two cases of Avengers and have cut back every time since except for Crisis.
As someone who does not buy cases, I would certainly be more likely to if I was garaunteed the whole set. I personally do not think that a chase figure would be a chase figure if they were one per case. I think 1 chase in every 3 or so cases would be a good chase.

further evidence that if they made factory sets purchasable that people would actually shell out good money to get them, and would STILL by boosters for generics and chases.

If:
Buying a Case of "SET NAME HERE" Heroclix = Definitely getting a complete set of that expansion, then it's a No-Brainer. Definitely!!
Thanks,

Collateral Damage is the perfect example of what I would like the distribution to be. I remember buying a case and getting perfect distribution for one of each figure and no more than 2 of a given figure so it maximized the amount of figures with minimal duplicates.

I totally agree. Collateral Damage was one of the perfect sets ever created by Wizkids. That's why that's the only set I've tried to collect. I just need a few LEs and some Exclusives and I'll have that set 100% collected.
I voted no, because it really depends what set the case is from. If it's Marvel, definetely no. If it's DC, maybe I would buy it depending on what it is. If it would be like Unleashed or Legacy, than I would totally buy.:)

Depends on the amount of duplicates that would result (I have no problem with a ton of generics, but I only need like 1 or 2 of Iron Man), but otherwise it would be no problem.

I would like to amend my "yes" to "if I ever had the money."
:p
I personally think it isn't in their best interests to make such a guarantee. Too many chances for a problem in collation, plus they prevent themselves from maniacally laughing while they watch you try and pull randomly from boosters or look frantically for a chase fig. ;)

I believe that was the case with Origins. If you bought a case, you pretty much had the whole set or had extra uniques that you could use to trade for what you were missing. I think the players were happy but I don't sales were all that great for Wizkids.
And to be honest, it wasn't all that exciting. I think we need turmoil in our life to make it interesting.

I'm always looking to complete a C/U/R/SR set whenever an expansion comes out, regardless of chases, brick figures, etc. Chases and brick figures are just icing on the cake for me.
Everything since Avengers has been pretty easy for me to get out of a case. What's been frustrating (at least for me) is that it seems really difficult to get a complete set of cardboard from a case.

Since I already buy a case I would buy a case with a complete set.

Interesting question...
About 6 sets ago, I would have said "yes" in a heartbeat. But too many pieces just sitting on my shelf due to uninspiring dials or lack of time/ caring about the character pushed me into my present course of buying singles.

I would most likely buy if i would get the whole set. The only question i would have would be what will all my extra peices be.

I bought a case for every set from Armor Wars through Origin, because of the rarity. I think the most figures I ever needed was about 11, from Armor Wars. I believe Collateral Damage and Origin yielded me complete sets, and the most any other set left me short was about 5 figures. I loved this! So yes, I would continue to purchase cases, if I knew that there was a better chance o pulling full sets than there is now.
I have always bought a case in the past so I probably would. Of course, this all depends on the price. If the price changed just to reflect this, I would not be so inclined.
Before Avengers model distro, I always bought a case. After Uniques went 1:3 rather than 1:6 I always got a full set of 1-96 with every case.
With the new distro I buy no boosters and cheapo Ebay the CUR set and whatever SR I want.
I'm not sure I'd buy a case if the set size stayed 60 figs.

Actually, No. I do realize my perspective is different then most.
When you could get a complete set in a Case (Armor Wars - Origins) maybe missing one random vet, it wasn't worth it for people who bought multiple cases since the uniques were not worth anything. You would get 18 uniques in a case and there was only 12 in a set. It pretty much made everything except maybe that one exclusive vet worthless since everyone and there brother could get a complete set.
Less people bought multiple cases which led to less cases being sold overall.
You do pretty get a 1-48 set in a case and with Crisis it looks like you have a good shot at a full feat/bfc/event/object set also.
Only with SRs & Chases does it make it worthwile for some to buy a case. I fund my heroclix hobby by buying multiple cases and selling the excess.

I used to buy a case for that reason (though I did start buying cases before it worked that way). I did buy an extra case of Supernova because of this (and it paid off!).
Once they started this new distribution (which I really don't care for by the way), I just started buying a brick a loose boosters here and there.

That's why I used to buy a case, and if it were true again, I would do it again.

I answered that I would stick with normal buying habits but there should be a 4th option there for people like me... Who cares if there is a complete set in a case I still can't afford a case.
So then there would be no secondary trade market. No trading amongst friends. No bragging rights?
Lets take all the fun out of opening boosters. Why wouldn't they just sell complete sets for $150? Gimme a brake!
So then there would be no secondary trade market. No trading amongst friends. No bragging rights?
This was (basically) how it was for Armor Wars- Origin. Yet somehow the secondary market and trading "limped" along  And somehow those old style Uniques/REV figs that were "about a set to a case" are still worth more than the new CUR/SR figs with the new Distribution model.
Why wouldn't they just sell complete sets for $150? Gimme a brake!
Many people wish they would.

I would say "yes". I don't usually buy a case, but that's mainly because I would expect to not get a complete set and spending that money and still needing figures would be extremely frustrating to me. I would have to plan my spending elsewhere more carefully to make sure I had the money, but I would definitely find a way if that were the case.
As far as the chase figures, I personally wish they would get rid of them so they wouldn't factor into my decision at all.
while I personally would buy a case for the chase or the complete set, at the same time I would be kinda sad that all i need to do is just by a case and I am done, I know I know it sounds silly but their is something to being able to buy a booster and be all surpirsed as you pull a figure you really need like I did on tuesday.
"No. I will stick with my regular purchasing habits"
Generally speaking, I'm not interested in getting a complete set (in each and every set, there are a number of figs I don't care about - and most of the time, the "I don't care about" figs far outweighs the "I really need" figs).
The One Case = whole set promise was the reason I started buying cases since AW...but iirc there was always at least one fig of the set missing (and don't let me start on Origin)

A complete set includes chase figures.

Right now if you buy a case (not two separate bricks at two separate times) you currently get all the Commons, Uncommons and Rares. Plus, on average, you get 1/2 the Super-Rares. So, If I can get the other 6 Super-Rares instead of more duplicate Commons, I'm all for it!
The Chase figures are another story... They wouldn't be called "Chase" figures if they were readily available.

Well I already buy a case so DEFINITELY
I'll continue to buy a case of DC if/when I can afford it, but I definitely want the full sets back in the cases. Super Rares are way too hard to get. Chases need to go 'bye-bye.'

Ironically, I'd probably buy fewer boosters than I do already. If each case contained an entire set, that would mean that no one would have to trade for...anything. Since I only look for a few select figures in each set, if there was nothing anyone had to trade for, there'd be no point in me buying any boosters, as the chances of me getting those select figures would not be offset by the potential trade bait I'd draw instead. Thus, I'd stop buying boosters period and buy any figures I'm looking for individually.
'No' was the closest answer I could get to that.

If chase figures are not readily available, then they are not collectable. Defeats the object, don't you think?
I voted 'No' but the real option I wanted was 'I'll use E-bay to get the 1-60 set from now on, and save myself some money' ;)

The results of this poll really send a message.

Well honestly though, why would they? If everyone could get a complete set from one case, then they probably wouldn't buy more, which is what WK wants.
I don't see it happening.
