1,000 Point Comic Theme Team

Next week our venue is holding a 1,000 point Unrestricted tournament where the teams are supposed to be comic-accurate themes. You don't have to use authorized keywords, but you need to be able to defend the keyword (which could be a new, made-up keyword--one player was talking about using alcoholics or addicts, for example) and use of figures can be voted down if the other players don't agree with your justification as to why a figure should have that keyword.

I was originally considering a Birds of Prey theme team with Oracle (and ICWO) and versions of every BoP member I could think of and squeeze in(including Black Canary, Huntress, Gypsy, Power Girl, Manhunter, Lady Shiva, Big Barda, Catwoman (who has teamed with them in the past), Katana, etc.).

I just thought of a different concept that I think may be equally fun and would give me a chance to play some figures I almost never use (or have never used): The Death of Superman (from the early 90s storyline).

I just got KC Supes, so I would use that version of him (even though he may not be the most comic accurate version for this story, he is Kal-El).

Doomsday
Lois Lane (even if I don't play any wildcards)

These three are must haves.

Doomsday fought the Justice League on his way to Metropolis in the storyline, so I could use some combination of:

Guy Gardner GL
Fire
Ice
Maxima
Booster Gold
Blue Beetle

I think Bloodwynd was also in that iteration of JL that fought Doomsday, but I don't think there is a clix of him (and if so, I don't have it--a mystical sorceror could be substituted for him, I suppose).

Lex Luthor and Supergirl were also major characters in the storyline and as I recall, Doomsday smacked SG back into her protoplasmic state (this was Matrix SG before she merged with Linda Danvers).

As both Superman and Doomsday were able to take a huge pounding and Doomsday ignored all the JL could do to him, I would give both of them Fortitude.

I could use V Supergirl from Origin (232 points) whose wildcard TA could represent Matrix Supergirl's ability to assume different forms.

The JL Lex is a solid piece at 161 points and is a competitive option, although the Lex (Lex II, Lex's brain in a cloned body) in the story didn't do much fighting, IIRC. I think the only other Lex clix I own is the one from Icons, which is less appropriate.

I'm not sure I own all the REV variants of Booster, Fire, Ice and Maxima, but I know I have some of them, as well as the Crisis Blue Beetle.

I have Guy Gardner GL from Justice League, so he is also an option.

I know I could access more characters by expanding to include the Reign of the Supermen follow-on storyline (such as Cyborg Superman and Steel), but I would rather limit it just to the characters leading up to the dual KO of Supes and Doomsday.

I always try to be competitive when I play, but obviously this team won't necessarily be a tourney killer when much of the filler won't be optimum characters (and I don't want to just cram tons of feats on Supes and Doomsday other than Fortitude and maybe one or two others, such as maybe Shellhead). So assuming the 566 points listed above are set in stone (although I could switch to Icons V. Supes or a different Supes if people object to my use of the new KC version), I would appreciate any suggestions regarding how best to fill in the remaining 434 points.

Honestly, I'd disqualify this team for using KC Superman. He's a different character from a different Earth/alternate timeline entirely who had nothing to do with the Doomsday storyline, ever. Be ready to make a backup team.

Well, as I said in my first post, if people object to my use of KC Supes (and I agree that they may, although our play group is pretty laid back and they probably won't have a problem with it; many of us have either KC or E-2 Supes, as well, so I don't think they will mind because I am the only one with the figure (one guy has 2 KC Supes)), then I will just use a different version of Supes instead. Actually, pretty much every version of Supes except Earth-2 Supes from Crisis should work as they are all Kal-El; only Crisis E-2 Supes is Kal-L (at the time of the Death of Superman storyline in comics, there was only one Earth in the DC Universe; Kingdom Come was similar to a What If? or Elseworlds type of story). If Crisis KC Supes is disallowed because he is a future version, obviously the other version of KC Supes would also not work (I don't own him, anyway). I could also see an argument for disallowing Young Superman (he's really Superboy) and Origin Unique Superman (he's Golden Age Supes; can't fly or do other things modern-era Supes can).

The point of the team, however, is to do a Death of Superman story team. If I need to use Man of Steel, NGN Supes, V. Icons Supes, etc., I can do so--it will just slightly change the amount of points left for other characters (I just want to try my new toy as I haven't played him yet and don't plan to do so this weekend, either :)). If I use V. Icons Supes it will mean there are 13 less points available. If I use NGN Supes, I will have 27 more points available.

I do like your Grant Morrison JLA team, although I don't own LE Arthur Curry (or a Submerged, for that matter).

That's just plain nasty!

Unfortunately, Warskrull is one of the SRs I'm missing from M&M, so I definitely don't have 3. :p I've been wanting to get one as an addition for Spy teams, but so far no one in my area has had one for trade and it hasn't been a high enough priority to get one off eBay.
