The Lord Foom figure at the tin soldier will be the tournament prize for thursday the first of may- May Day.
The tournament is going to be 400 point restricted scenario play, with each table given a different scenario from my Deck of random scenarios before the first player chooses which map to use. No player may play the same scenario twice.
Tournament entry is the usual $6, with all completed scoresheets due in to me before 6:15, when round one starts.

Oh and it'll be our first THREE ROUND tournament, since the stores opening hours are being extended.

On this thread I am going to list a bunch of the scenarios in the deck in case people think it'll affect their team builds/ to iron out rules problems early. Additionally If anyone thinks of other scenarios that would be appropriate, PM me with them and they may get added to the list.

So far the list contains-
The Universe Where Everyone Wears Hats
The Dark and Gritty Early Nineties
The Post-Apocalyptic Universe
The Mystical Realm
The Moral Opposite Universe
The Bizarro Universe
The Other Bizarro Universe
The Four Colour Universe
Honey I Shrunk The Heroes
The Poseiden Adventure
In The 25 & 1/2th Century!
The Suspicious Utopia
The Cowboy Era
Heroes of the Round Table
The Keene Act
The Chain Gang
The Ripper Murders
World War II
Purgatory
The Seven (Super) Samurai
The Manga Version
Attack of the 50ft Heroes
Mobbed Up
A God Am I

soon to be posted-
The Zombie Plague
Danger Room

more will doubtless be invented before the tournament.

edit (1)- Players still bring BFCs, Theme team ignore can be used on any player provided BFC or on any one of the scenario special effects, except special effects marked with a [U] which are Uncancelable.

edit (2)- these scenarios are still completely subject to change.

Horses are heavy objects that incur a -1 penalty to attack when used with super strength.
They occupy two squares and are considered clear terrain for movement purposes.
A standard character may pay one square of movement to mount the horse, losing its previous movement mode and becoming a grounded double base transporter. Characters may dismount the horse for the cost of one point of movement. Mounting/dismounting can be done as part of any movement, power or free action that involves moving but a character may only mount or dismount once during an action.
Horses can be attacked and destroyed like any other object (even with a character mounted on it) and become 2 squares of rubble (well corpse actually).

-RIOTERS [U]- At the beginning of the game 8 Rioter tokens are placed in the centre eight squares of the board (that’s squares 12G, 12H, 12I, 12J, 13G, 13H 13I and 13J on most maps) or as near as possible if blocking terrain prevents them being placed there. After each player’s turn is the rioter phase. The player whose turn just ended may give the rioters two actions. The rioters do not receive tokens for their actions but no rioter may be given two actions in one “rioter phase”. The rioters are considered to be a third force on the battlefield and are opposing to both players figures, so they cause and make break away rolls. During their turn a player can target a rioter with any power or attack normally useable on opposing figures. Rioters KO’ed are not worth any points, and any figure killed by rioters doesn’t net anyone any points either.

Mr_Nobody
04/22/2008, 02:42
-SHACKLES[U]- before figures are placed on the map, select two of your opponents pieces to be shackled together.
No action may be taken to separate shackled characters.
Shackled characters ignore knockback that would cause them to be separated.
Shackled characters can not carry or be carried by any character other than the one to which they are shackled.
Shackled characters can both be moved (with either a power, movement or free action) with only one action from your allotted actions per turn, however both characters receive tokens for this movement.
When one shackled figure becomes KO'd the remaining figure may choose to become unshackled as a free action before any subsequent action.
Characters shackled to KO'd figures halve their movement values, but have one square of mobile hindering terrain (corpse) that remains adjacent to them when they move. when the character becomes unshackled this terrain square is removed.

-THE LONDON FOG- DEEP SHADOWS is in effect.
-RIPPER[U]- after the map has been selected, the player who won map choice must decide whether his side represents Ripper and the criminals or the Detectives. The second player must play the other part.
The player who represents Ripper must secretly nominate one character on his side to be the Ripper. The ripper gains Archenemy points for each female opponent he KO's. He also gains the Blades/Claws/Fangs power (obviously to use this power is to tell the detectives who ripper is).
Any characters with the reporter, detective, police or shield keywords, or Shield or PD team symbols gains archenemy points for KOing the ripper

-ALPHA STRIKE is in effect
-BACK ALLEY BRAWL is in effect
-LOYALTY is in effect
-RESISTANCE is in effect
-SCIENTISTS[U]- before the first turn, four Scientist bystanders are placed as near to the centre of the board as possible (as supplied by the Judge). They are considered to be friendly to both forces, but may be targetted by mind control. Characters may capture scientists following the normal rules for capturing. Scientists succesfully captured and returned to a players starting zone are worth 40 points. Killing scientists is not worth any points.

-INFERNO is in effect
-MALICE is in effect
-GHOSTS- all characters gain the Phasing/Teleport power
-DARK ENERGY- Steal Energy heals the using character two clicks instead of one if the character dealt at least two points of damage. Support and regeneration do not work. The Eleha'al vine may not be used.
-UNENDING TORMENT[U]- When a character is KOd, remove it from the battlefield, place it next to the map on its first KOd click, and then place a Special marker on the square where it was KOd. At the beginning of each player's turn, you may either heal the character of 1 damage or return it to the battlefield on the square with the Special marker or any square of the players starting zone, then remove the Special marker.

Mr_Nobody
04/23/2008, 02:18
-CLAN WAR[U]- before placement each player must nominate his characters as Samurai, Ninja and Daimyo.
1 Character must be the Daimyo. The daimyo gains the Leadership power if it does not already possess it. A Daimyo is worth points x1.5 if it is killed by a ninja and points x2 if killed by a Samurai.
Ninja gain the Stealth, Leap/Climb and Smoke Cloud abilities
Samurai gain the Blades/Claws/Fangs power and Toughness (whenever they have no other damage reducers). Samurai may not use Stealth or any Team Ability that mimics stealth.
Markers will be given out to denote characters as Samurai, Ninja and Daimyo.
-PAPER WALLS- walls can be destroyed by any attack that does at least one point of damage, instead of three (so energy explosion can really open up a gap). Broken walls do not create rubble.
-HORSES- players may choose to swap out object tokens for Horse special objects (supplied by the Judge), see the Cowboys or Knights scenarios for the Horse rules.

Mr_Nobody
04/23/2008, 10:55
-PSYCHIC POWER!!!- Telekinesis has a range of 12 rather than 10.
Characters with Mind Control gain an extra lightning bolt for the purposes of Mind Control only.
-LOVE DODECAGON- Characters using Perplex may modify a value by +2/-2 if the target character is of the opposite sex.
-SUPER SAIYEN- At the end of his turn each player puts one token in their "power pool", plus one additional token for each unused action they had leftover that turn.
Any character that did not act or clear in the previous round may use up these tokens to give himself a +1 to one of his combat values (still subject to the rule of three, but a character could use more than three tokens at once if it wished to enhance multiple combat values).

Mr_Nobody
04/23/2008, 12:13
-DEBRIS is in effect
-GIANT- all characters gain the :g-giant: damage symbol.
-MASS DESTRUCTION- all :g-giant: characters gain the Super Strength power if they don't already have it, as well as the Unstoppable and Rip it Up feats

-This scenario must be played on an indoor map.
-PROHIBITION[U]- after the map is selected the second player chooses whether their characters are Mafiosi or G-Men, the first player must play the opposite. The player of the bootleggers places 6 special object (booze) tokens anywhere on the map, in addition to the regular objects. Booze has the same effects as a fuel tank special object, but can be detsroyed by any attack that does at least one point of damage, rather than three.
Mafiosi characters gain the CSA TA, in addition to any TA they normally have.
G-Men characters gain the Shield TA in addition to any TA they normally have and may capture Mafiosi, using the normal rules for Capturing.
When the game ends, the G-men player gains 5 points for each Booze object that has been removed from the board, the Mafiosi gain 10 for each one still on the board

-REALITY WARPING- all characters gain may take a power action to create any of the following (created terrain follows the same placement rules as the Smoke Cloud/ Barrier powers)
-up to 4 squares of hindering terrain
-up to 4 squares of blocking terrain
-up to 4 squares of water terrain
-up to 4 squares of elevated terrain, 3 squares of elevated terrain with a ladder or 2 squares of elevated terrain with 2 ladders.
Alternately a character can turn a like amount of terrain into ordinary clear terrain.
Such terrain changes are permanent (until another character undoes them)
Terrain tokens will be supplied by the judge.
-IN MY OWN IMAGE- all characters may take a power action to create up to 2 Mortal tokens within their range and line of sight. Mortals have :m-boot: 5, :a-fist: 5, :d-normal: 10, :g-starburst: 1, :bolt: 0, die after taking 1 damage, and are worth 0 points if killed. They are treated as characters in all respects. A player may have a maximum of 6 mortals in existance at any one time, but any character may take a power action to dissolve as many friendly mortals as he wishes.

-PACIFICATION is in effect
-POWER DAMPENING FIELD is in effectIsn't this redundant?

Power Dampening Field means that damage values above 3 become 3.

Pacification means that damage values of 4 or above are reduced by 1.

So if Power Dampening Field is in effect, Pacification will never be triggered. Pacification only comes up if Power Dampening Field is ignored (or Ordinary Day'd).

It's there in case someone wants to Theme team ignore one the other will be still in play - or at least that's what I assume.

Can't Energy Explosion only be used against characters? I'm not being sarcastic here :) , I'm just not sure but I thought it was the case.

But difficult is fun once in a while.

Well of course I did. But enjoy and fun are two different words.Okay, gotcha.

I think that there are different kinds of "fun". I really do have fun stretching my brain around a difficult tactical situation - it's momentarily frustrating to miss a roll by 1 (or critical miss at the worst possible time!) but for me a close game is more fun than an easy win - so overall, a couple of misses on my part may help me enjoy the game more.

(Hopefully I still win, of course! :cheeky:)

What I like about the new scoring system is that you can play a close game and still have decent points. If you win with 300 points but only have one figure left standing, that's a close game and was probably more fun, to my way of thinking. With the old scoring, you'd have a mediocre result (compared to the guy who just rolled over his opponent). With the new scoring, it's just as strong a win.

I really did enjoy the game that I lost against Magneto on Sunday, despite some terrible rolls on my part, because although I only got 8 points from it I was this close to winning (one more point of damage to Magneto would have done it). Fighting to a close win or loss, if it has been tight all game and not just in the last round, is fun for me.
