View Full Version : Secret Invasion: Will you buy the Clix if you dislike the Comic?

Marvel's "Secret Invasion" has begun, and it seems most either love it or hate it. With a clix set, for the first time ever, being so closely tied to one specific even, I have to ask: If you dislike the "Secret Invasion" storyline, will you still buy the clix that are based upon that story?

Well, firstly let me say that I've been anticipating this event ever since it was announced, and in reading the first issue I loved it.

However, even if it took a turn for the worst (which, with Bendis...), I'd still buy the clix. I'm mainly a Marvel reader so anytime a Marvel set comes out I'm always excited. Even if the story was horrible, the Clix don't necessarily reflect that, would they? I would think, to me, it would matter more the quality of the sculpts, dials, etc.

Sure. Only way I won't buy the 'Clix is if they suck. Even then, I'd still get some to conceivably match certain story elements. If both the 'Clix and the comics were horrible, then I'd be out.

I consider either being that kind of horrible a pretty small shot.

The Rukuz concurs with Kenny...Lets see how this does, hate to such an "unprecedented" event fail on both ends.

I'm going with "Reply Hazy". I read the first issue at the comic shop this weekend and was, shall we say, disappointed. Needless to say I put the thing back on the shelf and kept my $3.99. I'd rather have the gallon of gas. That has me thoroughly indifferent about the "Secret Invasion" release. Maybe I'll get off the dime when the previews start, maybe I won't. I've never felt this way about a new set before. All I can say is, I blame comics.

Did I really just say that?!

I think there's a flaw in the premise of this poll, for while this is certainly the first set to see this level of direct involvement by Marvel, it is hardly the first set themed around a specific event. Regardless, put me in the first camp. I wind up buying a brick of everything, no matter how much I grouse. Even with Crisis, which is based on storylines I despise, filled with characters I don't care about, and saddled with the whole WF fiasco (never sent in my coupon, couldn't care less about the fig but feel sorry for a lot of folks), I still bought a brick. And this next set is the only Marvel we'll see this year? Maybe I'll buy a case!

I can say I wasn't at all excited when I heard that Secret Invasion was the name of the set, but that doesn't mean that there won't be figures in the set that I will want. It would be nice to have a little more to go on than the title, at this point, but I figure there will inevitably be figures that I want, even if it's based on a stupid storyline.

If the quality of the Clix are as bad as Crisis, I will definitly be picking and choosing. And after the WF bullsh*t, I will not be buying another brick. X-Men related characters and major players from now on only.

I'm not one for getting whole sets, but I'm sure I'll find at least a couple figures I'll be interested in obtaining.

If it was a DC set, I'd probably buy it no matter what, but since it's Marvel, I'll be looking at the previews and using them to figure out what (if anything) I want to buy. At this point I'm looking to fill holes (Martinex and Charlie-27 for Guardians of the Galaxy, Harry Leland for Hellfire Club, Just about anyone for the Shi'ar Imperial Guard or Serpent Society, Melter, Grey Gargoyle, Porcupine, Unicorn, Whiplash...).

A bunch of Skrull copies of characters I already have doesn't thrill me (though I'm interested to see what mechanic they've cooked up to keep us guessing as to which side a clix ix playing for...).

If the mail away is a Cyclops & Pheonix I will be so glad. I read the first issue an will say that the one that landed are Skrulls that they will reveal it in issue seven. The twist is that Nick Fury will come out and kick butt and ask questions later. I will buy this set so I can make a good S.H.I.E.L.D team and Skrull team.

I’ll be buying my usual case and the singles I’ll need to complete a set, even though I already object to the premise of Secret Invasion and Marvel’s last two ‘mega-events’ (for reasons I’ve expressed elsewhere on this site).

That’s the great thing about HeroClix – you can do whatever you want with the characters! If I want, I can come up with a scenario that reflects what I’d have wanted out of Secret Invasion, a different scenario where the objective is to beat the tar out of all the characters Bendis and Quesada ham-handedly retcon, etc.

I'll get a case or two if I can afford it.

But I probably won't dislike Secret Invasion anyway - For me to dislike it, They'd have to do something extreme like revealing that Captain America faked his death to become a pimp... Or Wolverine was replaced by a skrull just after the first time he fought the Hulk. But they wouldn't do that... or would they?

I'll buy it no matter what.

Skrulls are cool - so thats a selling point. Pretty much the only reason I bought Super-Nova after splitting a case.

The story is predominately set in the Avengers story-lines, and Avengers are cool. Most have been made recently, anyway, but there are a few I wouldn't mind seeing Seth-ized (I'm looking at you, Ms. Marvel).

A new Elektra is actually due. After being in 4 straight sets of seeing her, we haven't seen hide nor hair of her in the last 8 sets.

While I am concerned by the "just see what we do this time" vibe from the set, I'm hoping its something that is possible to ignore if I choose. It may be a cool idea - but I don't want it to take away from the characters I want to use in the set...

I can't imagine what would be so bad that I wouldn't buy anything. I bought plenty of Ultimates, Avengers, Icons, and Sinister and none of those sets inspired me... :ermm:

This is pretty much where I stand.
There are certain Marvel figures I want (Masters of Evil, Great Lakes Avengers, Speedball)... and I'll be happy to pick those up individually.
I'm not at all interested in a set full of Skrulls/Skrull heroes.

I've never felt this way about a new set before. All I can say is, I blame comics.

I understand you perfectly. Back when Ultimates was announced, I had the same feeling I'm having now, but I wanted to be a completist, so I bought all sorts of figs I never had any intention of playing with. I have since seen the light, so I voted pick and choose. I was tempted to say nothing at all, but the set can't be 100% Bendis. I'll just grab whatever obscure, lame villain hasn't been totally mangled yet.

I buy by the piece, so its "We'll wait and see." for me...

Since this is a Marvel set I will probable get every figure. If it was DC I would probable get 2 or 3 figures.

I'm in for a brick no matter what, and I'm a Skrullophile. Mutations and Monsters was the set I bought into "anyway," and even in sets that don't thrill me there are pieces that do. I pulled X-23 out for a 200-point, 2-action slap-fest and she did exceptional things.

I'm a DC only guy in comics and clix. So no SI for me.

Not a Marvel guy, but I love the skrulls in clix so I will pick and choose. I won't read or buy the comics. Other than clix, I don't buy anything Marvel anymore, so there is not a chance of me being disappointed

i never get every figure; but yes, it is Marvel, so i'll be buying. If it was DC, i wouldn't buy any--just like Crisis.

I went with option D...reply hazy. I can't stand FanFavoriteBrianMichaelBendis' writing. I read the first 10 pages that were previewed online and was glad that I hadn't spent more than a couple minutes time looking at that garbage. The only character I have actively avoided getting in Clix was Jewel/Jessica Jones. That is the only set that I have that is not complete since IC came out 5 1/2 years ago. Depending on how the set looks, I will either be in group A or C...I can't stand FFBMB.

Yes. of course. How a comic or event turns out does not determine my buying habits. It doesn't ncessarily mean I'll keep every figure I pull-as that is determined on how much I like the character, whether or not that character fills a hole on a team I wan to run, or whether or not the figure is sooo good, I just can't bering myself to part with it.

Waiting and seeing.

It'll probably be like MnM where I want 6 figures, but it''ll be cheaper to buy the whole CUR set.

Option A, I buy whatever I can (cheaply) get, even if I don't necessarily like the characters or storylines. Heck, I bought the Invincible set and had only read the Free Comic Book Day version. I just like having a version of as many different characters as possible, and that's why my Hypertime Weather Wizards are as important to me as my M&M Silver Savage. I care very much about particular storylines, but Secret Invasion seems pretty interesting so far, for one issue. Now just to find out who the heck came out of that ship!!! :)

When I started buying, I was paying full retail and getting NOTHING in return. No good uniques, or heck any uniques hardly. I just didn't pull the hot figures. Then when I started researching older stuff, I was able to buy some cheap cases of Icons and Hypertime, and that really helped fill in the ranks. Since then, I've done fairly well by buying cheap lots on ebay, and making trades locally. For instance, I traded a Green Scar, Hulkbuster, and Maestro away for like 7 JL super-rares and that really helped fill in the JL set for me.

Regardless, even if I don't ever play Asp, Stingray, or Bulldozer, it's nice to know I have them. It's like a mini comic book museum if you think about it that way! Of course stuff like the chase Earth-2 Superman wrecks that notion, but I do what I can do. That's why I like some remakes. Look at the difference in price between the 1st Ultimate Iron Man and the second. :)

Captain Beyond
04/09/2008, 19:37
Yeah I'll get them even if I don't like it. Heck I even have the Sentry; a character I despise, and those goofy City of Heroes/City of Villains characters.

I'm going to buy a full set of Commons/Uncommons/Rares on ebay for about $30 and then I'll trade for SuperRares with the extra prizes I shark at local tourneys.

04/09/2008, 22:43
Yeah, I'm buying no matter what. Most will be representations of characters that I'll want to get whether the story is good or not. A Ms. Marvel remake is still Ms. Marvel, within or without the vacuum of Secret Invasion.

I don't read most comics anymore anyway, so the story will have no bearing on my clix buying habit.

"I'm going to pick and choose what I want."

As I usually do with every set.

I'm not really interested in specific Secret Invasion characters (because I don't plan on reading it, and even if I do, I'll wait for it to be collected), but there are gonna be characters I'm interested in who are not directly connected to this storyline.

I can't say if I like the series yet; it's too early to tell if it's going to be good; lately, when Marvel starts their crossover arcs it either starts out really good and ends badly or starts out bad and ends up really good. In either way, I'll probably buy a brick like I do for every set. Though if there's some amazing generics, you bet I'll be getting a case to run them!

I haven't bought and read comic books regularly since 1995 or so, and I don't see Secret Invasion as much of a reason to start.

That said, I do loves me my clicks, so I'll buy my brick and the couple of boosters for the sealed game I'm sure there'll be just like always. :)
