View Full Version : Homer's Odyssey?
I lately decided i may run a mafia based on the myths/poems by Homer. I looked around the mafia forums and didn't see anyone else talk about running a mafia based on this. :p
So im just posting to say, do you think the idea of "the odyssey" is good?

I prefer Virgil's Aeneid, since he has a real opinion, but I'll play nevertheless.

Ross, "The Iliad" may have more characters, if you think about it. There were a limited few roles in "The Odyssey". You take those two works and toss in "The Aeneid" (as ABF suggested) and there you have a great variety to choose from, including a few Greek gods and demi-gods. For the heck of it, you should also throw in characters from 300!! Good luck with putting your game together...

I agree that the Illiad would be better suited to the game.
Either side could be town, though I would think the Trojans would be better suited to it.
The Odyssey would be awkward if Odysseus died early.
Heck, I'm not even sure who would be the town. There are enough players, but none of them are really affliated except Odysseus and his random unnamed crewmen.

thats why maybe a misture of stories would be good?
if i did infact make this mafia, how many of you would play? "a special someone is helping me with the write ups"

Given that Odysseus and crew were in The Iliad, you really include both sets of characters if you stick with an Iliad scenario. Either the Trojans or the Accheans could be town, depending on your perspective. And you'd have a mess of Greek Gods flying around, to boot.
If you're serious about modding, just one bit of advice: know your source material (and no, this does not mean watching the "Troy" movie with Brad Pitt.) The more familiar you are with who's who in the story and which actions affect which outcomes, the better off you'll be.

I'd play in an Illiad mafia but an Illiad + Odyssey mafia doesn't interest me so much.
There are just so many characters that aren't really connected at all except for Odysseus seeing them all and none of them are connected to what goes on in the Illiad...except again though Odysseus. If Odysseus dies, it would seem like the game should just end.

I'll second this.

I dunno...I'm thinking someone needs to do a mafia game called "Homer's Odyssey" and crossover the myths and the Simpsons. :)

yeah i think not...
What about like just myths and gods? Because with that there could be endless amounts off town neut and mafia.
