View Full Version : DC Mafia Help?

I'm running a DC Mafia game on another forum, and I was wondering if I could get some help choosing characters etc?

The forum isn't comics-orientated at all (and it's a European forum and comics aren't as big over here), so many of the players will not have the first clue about the comics, so I'm aiming to use all the famous characters over more obscure ones. I have 35 players so far, so obviously I'll have to use some B-list characters.

There's a few roles that I want to try and make more interesting (Aquaman in particular - he's famous, but realistically what can you do with him? I was thinking of having him as a slave of Starro or something)

Batman villains are the most well known (because of the various films) so I was thinking of having them as the mafia, with the Superman Enemies/ Injustice League as a smaller, but more powerful second mafia.

For characters so far I have:

Town

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (Nondescript, since they all have the same bag)
Flash
Robin
Batgirl (I was thinking just having Ms. Gordon when she had real legs, but it could be funnier having Oracle and Cassie Cain aswell)
Supergirl
Green Arrow
Black Canary
Atom
Martian Manhunter
Huntress
Question

(Possibly some Teen Titans aswell)

Neutrals

Catwoman
Talia Al Ghul

Bat Enemies

Ra's Al Ghul
Penguin (/ I hate him)
Poison Ivy
Bane
Two-Face
Scarecrow

Joker
Harely Quin

(I was thinking of having those two as a serial killing duo or something)

Injustice League

Lex Luthor
Sinestro
Zoom
Giganta
Star Sapphire

(The latter two for the big jokes)

Any characters you'd add? Any you'd take away?

General thoughts? Any ideas for hilariously funny roles?

I'm laughing at having Batman as a normal cop, Robin as a paranoid cop and Batgirl as a naive cop. Like false info abound.

Well, Aquaman is still a king/ruler and you can gauge his abilities based upon his force of personality. You could, for example, have him "override" an individual's vote (kind-of a vote stealer).

I hate that kind of role though, feels really pointless in the long run, and takes to much effort to make it happen.

I actually feel a role like that gets more dangerous in the end-game when he's one of the final hurdles towards a Mafia being able to get majourity (as for "extra work", the person PM's you at Night like anyone else and says, "So and so's vote counts the same as mine tomorrow" *shrugs*).

Still, if you hate a vote-stealer role, don't go with it. Just saying there are roles based around his rulership-aspect.

If you want something more akin to his powers, he's pretty ideal as a roleblocker (strength, stamina, and swarms of fishies) with the potential for amusing write-ups.

Seriously, who wouldn't laugh at being stopped by a sea cucumber. Or a killer whale bursting out of the ice to eat a certain Penguin.

Sea cucumbers "escape" harm by vomiting out their own intestines so, y'know, sky's the limit with that write-up.

You could have the Red Tornado with "Hansen Sucks" written across his chest. :cheeky:

You can go with the Water Hand version of Aquaman, who has healing powers. Having Aquaman as your doctor would earn him some respect.

Batman, Superman, and Wonderwoman actualy could qualify for most of the same powers. You could go several angles with them.

Batman: Cop (World's Greatest Detective)
Superman: Vig (Who is going to take down Superman? Come on!)
Wonder Woman: Roleblocker (Lasso and whatnot.)

or

Batman: Vig (Files on everyone, knows what needs to be done. That sort of thing.)
Superman: Roleblocker (Stops villains, but doesn't kill them.)
Wonder Woman: Cop (Lasso of TRUTH! Are you mafia? Yes? Ok then!)

or

Batman: Roleblocker (Again, take down any foe, but leaves them tied to a lamppost.)
Superman: Cop (Can supersenses can detect the criminals.)
Wonder Woman: Vig (Just think Max Lord necksnap.)

As for B-listers that will be known, you can always go with those who have gotten some exposure via the cartoon. I notice HawkGirl/Hawkman isn't on your list.

And if you hate Penguin so much, why not replace him with Scarecrow? Both were in a Batman film, but Scarecrow was sooo much better. And he was played by a Brit!

I think people would enjoy your take on Plasticman as well.

Those are my two cents.

Aren't you making a DC game for here, too? Or are you?

If we are going Bat Enemies, Clayface, Black Mask, and Ventriloquest could be very unique. Clayface could take the form of any other character when doing the kill - aka, anyone tracking him would actually be tracking the person he is impersonating.

Black Mask makes a very good SK.

Have Riddler give riddles out to people....completely useless but confusing as all heck to the Town. They will spend HOURS trying to figure it out.

I'd make Joe Chill the SK.

As much as I like them, I don't think Question and Huntress are that well-known, and Huntress might be a bit redundant with Batgirl there, too.

Remember that Teen Titans was big over here, with the cartoon, so everyone knows them. You could mix the 2 (JL and TT).

Stop lying. Please.

I'm laughing at the thought of the Batman Enemies not having a kill ability, but having various joke powers, like:

Penguin

Politician: When you vote in the game thread, your vote will not count, instead, you may PM me with your vote. This vote will count for two, and will be totally secret.

Rigged Elections: Once per game, you can declare your vote count to be for as many votes as you like (effectively you have the power to get someone lynched in one fell swoop) However, your politician power will not come into effect, and you will vote as usual in the game thread.

Basically a joke double voter who can choose to deceive #####s, and randomly lynch someone if he so chooses.

Scarecrow

The Scarecrow: Every night, you may misdirect another player.

Fear Gas: Once per game, you may choose to use this power. All info gathered on the same night you use this power will be wrong/misleading.

Poison Ivy

Pherenome Control: Every night, you may choose two targets. The first target will target the second target instead of their intended target. During the following day phase, the first target will be forced to vote for whoever you choose.

(The players are much better behaved that we are, and I don't think people implying they are mind controlled will be an issue)

Ivy's Kiss: When a male character targets you, there is a 50% chance they will be roleblocked instead.

Talia Al Ghul

Misinformation: Every night, you may target another player. If that player is town they will appear as mafia, and if that player is mafia they will appear as town for the duration of that night.

Lazurus Pit: Generally having two lives. Use them or don't.

And some joke others. I love when the mafia win through trickery rather than actually killing people.

Their was actually a really good variation of wonderwoman on another forum. Wonder woman was basiclly a role cop, but different. Each night, she would pm the mod with a different question to somebody. ie :what is your alignment" or "are you town aligned" or whatever, and the mod would pm back with the truth.
