Most of the offers I have recieved from my trade thread do NOT bump. I clearly state to do so. What is going on? Are others of you having this same problem? I also have added to my rules if you don't bump I won't consider their offer. I have already rejected one offer with this policy.

Am I alone with this problem and if not how common is it? Am I overreacting? I appreciate your input.

No, very few offers I've received lately have had bumps. I think you might be overreacting a smidge (because if I get a good offer, I'll take it regardless of bumpery), but not much. :)

People seem to lack the ability to bumo a thread. I sometimes wonder if they think they believe that no one will try to trade with you, therefore acting on selfishness They could be lazy and not do it. Considering the rash of bad traders and how the standard of some people on the realm is less that positive, this is another situation that is being brought into the craphole.

I do commend you for not replying to pm's that do not bump. If it is a rule on your thread, then people should follow it, especially since it is not too much to ask.

I'm no veteran trader, but I have no idea what "bumping" is, so I would probably contribute to the problem in my ignorance.

No problem. Easy to explain. After or before you PM an offer to someone off their trade thread you simply reply to the thread and type something to the effect "pm coming your way" or something like that. It is just a common courtesy.

I usually try to bump, but I sometimes forget - I am easily distracted.
I request a bump upon PMing as well, but I do not mind if people do not do it - after all, I'm as bad as they are. Or maybe just a little better. Or worse.

I understand what you are saying. It is more than just forgetting. 80-90% of the offers I have recieved did not bump. That my friend is a trend.

Good policy. I've done the same. It's all part of the expected courtesy within the honor system of trading.

What about when you bump, send a pm and don't get a reply?
Where does that rank on the rude factor?

Not bumping is not the worst offence- it is desired to keep a thread alive- however, honestly it may work against you, frequently when we see a thread bumped 3 or more times we assume the items we seek have been bought or traded already, and won't review a list or send a pm until the thread has been updated (especially on purchases).

Just our 2 cents ;)

BTW- we especially like when the trader/seller won't ship to Canada but doesnt post that fact. Do us a favor and post that fact in your original post so we can add you to our ignore list and not waste each others time.
Note that if you change your mind in the future we won't know, nor trade/buy/sell from you then.

I dont understand the whole pm thing anyways. When i was on MOTL you had to post your offer and then pms were used to accept and confirm.

My
A
B
C

Your

Z

This did a few things other then bump your post. It made offers public so others could see what they were up against and try to make a better offer. It cuts down on really bad offers as well. People are not as willing to post something like My $9 Your Specter when they know everyone will see it.

"[I] frequently when we see a thread bumped 3 or more times we assume the items we seek have been bought or traded already, and won't review a list or send a pm until the thread has been updated (especially on purchases).

Why can people not keep their list updated  It seems like for every 10 offers i make 5 respond with sorry item already sold and 2 never respond.

I would not like posting what I would be willing to trade because there are always people who may have more than you to beat you out on the trade, it will definitely make it unfair for newer traders because of that.

As for people updating their thread, I am guilty of it, I always make sure to update it when I have time, which I have not had. However I make sure to update my SR/LE/U list because those ore more sought after than my nons

I also do not like when people do not respond to PM's, or do not reply after a few PM's have been sent. As for me personally, if I am trying to trade clix to someone, I pull them aside and make sure that I have them on hold on the chance that the trade will go through. I am doing that a little less now.

That works both ways though. If you are the one who they are trying to trade with you will get a better deal. Also if you are selling and someone post that they want figure A for $20 anyone else who wants Figure A will also buy something else so they can get priority on Figure A. Now instead of a $20 sale you may end up with a $30-$40 sale.

Agreed. Yes, it sucks for those that could be outbid or have someone offer up a better deal, but that's what every trader making a thread wants...the best offer they can get. If you can't offer up as much as someone else, too bad. There's always other ways to get what you want, even if you are new.

I usualy bump, unless I forget. Recently, I sent an offer and forgot to bump. The person replied they would have taken the trade if I had bumped his thread. At that point I decided I would never trade with that person, ever. If they can get so bent out of shape of something like that, I'd rather just not deal.

Agreed! There are a few on here I consider too high maintenance to trade with/buy from....

Cant really give the a neg but sure dont want to work with them ever again.

Bumping is a double edge sword.. You been bumped into double digits I will not even read it.. (Same as mentioned above)..
