Hey all. I'm trying to build a team to win a qualifier for the World Championships coming up. Here is one team I've come up with so far:

Martial Artist Theme
Green Arrow (Crisis) 104
Nightwing (Crisis) 79 + Takedown 6= 85
Karate Kid (Crisis) 63 + Maneuver 8= 71
Rookie Katana (CD) 37

Total= 297

Figure on all Stealth. High defenses to deal with in stealth. Once in postion, Karate Kid can carry Nightwing up when charging. Then Maneuver someone into postion for GA to shoot at if he can't already. Nightwing ties up with Takedown. Plus Katana can be another decent attacker with B/C/F, and Prob user on team (having the 2 probs).

Please. Any thoughts would be great. I've never been to good at building at 300. With feats to boot. But I'm looking to be competitive. No protected to use. So any advise would or thoughts on how this might play would be awesome. Thanks.

well as martial artist combo i have found to be particularly effective is batgirl and karate kid.

If you change the Green Arrow to the Justice League Version, and drop Katana, you could put batgirl on there aswell. this leaves you 4 more points for feats such as hold the line on nightwing, or inside infor on anyone, most likely nightwing.

so:

JL Green Arrow - 70
Nightwing - 79
- Takedown - 6
- Hold the Line - 4
Karate Kid - 63
- Maneuver - 8
Batgirl - 70

300

edit: this just occured to me, nightwing only has the pre-req's for his feats for his first click. I might not reccommend going that route

which route is that? playing Nightwing at all? or just so many feats he can use only on the first click?

No maybe put nanobots on nightwing or batgirl. instead of takedown and hold the line.

I like that team. I almost wanna say choose between Batgirl and Nightwing. If I had to choose i'd probably go with batgirl. So:

Batgirl / 70
Karate kid / 63 / manuever / 8
Green Arrow / 70

Right now you're at 211. This is a great core team. from here on out i'd either put Bronze tiger or Karnak. Bronzy brings a little healing to the team so you can push him and Karate kid (as long as you have a pog) and have the pog K.O. itself to get some healing.

Karnak is a beast and brings perplex to the table. He is also excellent in fighting.

Nightwing is good, but he takes to long to really get in the battle. I never understand putting him with contigency or takedown since he can only use this on the top click.

Give Batgirl inside Information so she fight other "gotham" characters and have bonuses versus the abused "teen" keyword. (If going with karnak this should leave you with 6 points)

If Bronzy is your choice make sure you put a pog. An armor piercing on Batgirl (with 11 attack flurry how could you not) and either another armor piercing on someone else or nanobots on Batgirl or Green Arrow. Don't forget Batgirls inside Info on this team as well. This will put you at 297. Oh i forgot manuever was there so maybe give Batgirl AP and II, then once again you have 6 or so points to work with.

i would say the team with karnak would just devastate anyone bringing a tentpole team. this would be a pretty balanced team, not huge amounts of range but you have enough close combat power to make up the difference. Though with inside info you are 4 points over. that wont be too much of a problem for batgirl when she gets her 11 then 12 attack. and then just nanobot up the object they are standing on and open them up for green arrow.

I'd probably go with Robin over Batgirl (Outwit is goood...) and fill out the rest of the points with Karnak.

All interesting ideas. Good ones to boot. I'll mull them over and see what I can come up with. Batgirl and Inside Information is a great idea for the meta game.

i playtested this team:

Cr Batgirl - 70
- Armor Piercing - 10

Cr Vet Robin - 79

JL Green Arrow - 70

Cr Karate Kid - 63
- Maneuver - 8

This team did very well. It is quite balanced and its pretty easy to get a hold of everything on the team.

I got to thinking. What about this idea:

Marital Artist Team
Green Arrow (JL) 70
Batgirl (Crisis) + Inside Information = 74
Karate Kid (Crisis) + Maneuver = 71
Vet Psylocke (Armor Wars) + Stunning Blow =85

Total 300

Figure on Karate Kid carrying Batgirl into the close combat with Kid using Maneuver for two range attackers. Psylocke will be a pain in stealth. Or I can drop Stunning blow for Armor Piercing on Batgirl or put on a pog for dedicated prob use on the team.

What you all think of this one? Sounds pretty decent. More range which is good. Let me know please. Thanks.

I like this idea also. Armor Piercing is good. What about Heightened Reflexes on Robin?

that might be effective but if i were to choose between guaranteed damage and situational supersenses, i would go damage. if you want to make robin more of a deterrent to attack then reflexes would be a good idea. The Psylocke is good idea though you are giving up front loaded outwit, and i dont think you can use exploit with incap.

I'm doing some playtesting today. I'll see how many I can do and I'll tell how they did.

I playtested this version of my team in two games:

Nightwing (Crisis) + Takedown =85
Batgirl (Crisis) + Inside Information = 74
Karate Kid + Maneuver = 71
Green Arrow (JL) 70

Total 300

First game was against another Martial Artist team

Bronze Tiger
Green Arrow (JL)
Shang Chi
Ronin + Stunning Blow
Exp Night Thrasher

We fought on the Anti Monitor map. I took out Shang Chi, Night Thrasher and Green Arrow before time. He took Batgirl and Karate Kid. No hindering except for Objects hurt but I set some up for good spots to set up my Batgirl/KK attacks. Nightwing tied down Bronze Tiger with Outsiders to keep damage low on those CCE clicks when I based him. Maneuver helped to get Shang from behind a wall so my Arrow could get a running shot on him.

Second fight was a Gotham City theme

Batman and Robin
Batgirl
Nightwing + Contingency Plan

He played Deep Shadows and I played Exhaustion. Neither was canceled.
This fight was all about postioning and who would make a mistake first. I kept putting people in front of Arrow since he was only one not stealth. Batgirl and Batgirl were the first ones to fight at over halfway through. CP was a pain with him upping movements to stay way from KK's charge. Eventually I got lucky rolling double 5's twice in a row on his Nightwing on a Batgirl flurry. He was right beside a wall so he took knockback from both. I eventually won that one taking his Nightwing. He only took my Karate Kid.

I like how the team played over all but it just seemed like there isn't enough damage output to be super effective. Inside Information on Batgirl worked great, think it will at tourney also. Annoying to fight to be sure. I think it'll do better with more hindering to help them.

There you go. Figured I'd give a little background on how they played so anyone can give me some feedback to make this team better. If I can. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated and I thank everyone who's helped me out so far in this thread.

sounds like they did pretty well. though something that may or may not have changed the game is that nightwing would not have taken knockback damage due to his combat reflexes. but nightwing w/ takedown is a nasty combo. I used it tonight and it won one game and made another pretty close. good to hear you did so well.

You're right about the Combat Reflexes thing. I'll remember that. I feel bad when I mess a rule up like that on someone else. Especially a friend and we're playing for fun. I'm gonna give this team a try. I hope it'll do good, as long as I'm patient. Be well all.

I play 2 versions:

Karate Kid (63) +warbound
Timberwolf (60) +warbound
Bronze Tiger (60) +warbound
Robin (79) +warbound
Joe Chill
President Horn
Forbush Man x2

Or:

Karate Kid +protected
Timberwolf
Bronze Tiger +opportunist
Robin
Val Cooper
Jarvis
Forbush Man x2

With the suicide squad they are difficult to kill, and Robin with Outwit and Perplex is really useful

Wow! I'm glad you actually told us of your teams and how you did. What did you like exactly?

Did you think Batgirl/Nightwing make a balanced team together?

It happens, I wouldnt fret. I am also with Blackheart here on the "Nightwing + Batgirl" team up. How did you like it?

I like Batgirl and Nightwing on the same team. You keep to hindering and you pretty much guaranteed to keep a steady defense and be annoying with both. Batgirl with the Super Senses and Shape Change, then Combat Reflexes/Willpower later. And Nightwing with CR through his whole dial. When you attack, make it count or the fight will drag on longer then you'd like. That's just my experience though.

With this team I want to force people into tough choices. Carrying Batgirl with Karate Kid into a fight. Forcing people to either worry about Batgirl's Flurry next round, or pushing Karate Kid for 4 damage with CCE. Base people with Nightwing and have them have to decide if they want to risk attacking him and missing (pushing themselves in the process with Takedown if they miss) or leaving him alone, and basically keeping someone out of the fight. With two people for Karate Kid to Wild Card Batman Ally off of helps too. And just try to keep Green Arrow out of harms way till he can get an opportunity.

That's probably more then you all wanted to know but that's how I've been playing. Glad everyone's taken an interest.
