No one put up a thread about this, so I thought I would.
Me and superfro can't be the only ones playing this. This is my newest addiction. Came within a gnat's eyelash of getting my cultural victory tonight.
Fro, hook up with me if you see me playing it.

I just got it Tuesday night. I am full addicted to it as well. I've only played a couple single player games so far, and nothing higher than Warlord difficulty yet.
The demo did its job well. I must've played that thing at least 20 times.
I might join up in multiplayer if I get an invite but I never know how long I'll be on for, so it's hard to say. At least it lets the AI take over for your civ if you have to quit early (from what I understand).

I played a demo of this game at NYCC, it seemed like fun. I don't have an Xbox, though, so I'll have to stick with Civ IV for a while longer.
... okay, after over a decade of mouse-and-keyboard-driven Civ play... I have to wonder. how does this work with an Xboxen controller? Let stick mouse, triggers for clicks? And is it, y'know... pretty much Civ IV, or did they have to yank a lot of stuff out of it?
... 'cause if there's people here who play on a regular basis and say it'll last for quite a few months, I'll be tempted to buy it... and my wife'll be tempted to leave me unless we get anotehr HDTV...

Picking it up today before I see the Dark Knight. Got $35 in Best Buy credit that I should use. Figure this and UT3 will be nice additions. :)

I would, but it's been returned now. (It was just a rental. Cause I rent games like mad. :cheeky:) It's totally worth a "buy" though. There's a lot of game to be had there if you want to really complete EVERYTHING. Tons of fun, but way too easy to lose track of time. :nervous:

I've never played Civ IV, so I can't comment too much on that. Except that as I understand it, they've streamlined play. Where something might give you a 10 or 15% before in Civ IV, you'll get the full 100% on Civ Rev. I think there are less turns overall, you start at 4000BC (I think) and the last year is 2100AD, unless you win one of the four types of victories. They might have scaled down the amount of units (warriors, archers, etc.), again I can't comment on that, but that would be my guess.
You search the map with one joystick, you move with the other. You hit A to select a move or attack. Y to get to the Civipedia. Pretty basic controls. I figure if you were used to it on a PC, the Xbox control shouldn't be a big bother to you. Usually, it takes about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours to play against the computer if it goes all the way to 2100AD. Probably longer for a multiplayer game.
As far as replay value, there are 16 different civilizations. According to the website and guide book, there are over 18,000 ways to win (and 180,000 ways to lose :p). I believe there are 53 Xbox achievments to get. I've played almost everyday (or at least every other day) since the 9th, and I haven't even played a multiplayer game yet. In my opinion I think it has high replay value.
Hope that helped.

I hear ya. This will be my big time waster, until Madden rolls around.

Yeah I've played a bit on Civ IV. Civ Rev is more fun in my opinion. Partly because I just want to play on the TV, partly because it has less micro management. You don't tell workers what to do, you don't have health/happiness to worry about. It's all about racing towards one of 4 victory types.
There are fewer different unit types, but I like how that simplifies some of your decisions.
Overall, it's a lot more simple than the PC games. You might not like that some things aren't included, but I think there's plenty there to have fun with.
As for the controls, they're very intuitive for the most part. They designed this game for consoles so controlling it with a mouse was never in their thoughts. Left stick moves where your unit's destination is. Right Stick moves the camera. Left Bumper brings up the city menu, and from there you can just "tab" through your cities until you're done.

I've been playing it - I like it better than the PC games because I can finish a game in two hours. :p
Some people would claim it's "dumbed down", but they just made it easier to play on a console. If you're into micro-managing everything, stick with the PC. Otherwise, the console game is great.

I was skeptical, but I did buy it... and man, I love it! :)
Especially having Ninja Tanks. That rocks.

The first time I saw bombers going off on pikemen, I laughed myself silly. Just an awesomely fun game.
