For an upcoming game night, my local venue will be running a 1000 point "Survivor" setup.
That is, of the three games that night, game 1 you get a 1000 point team, but in game 2, you only get to take with you the pieces that survived game 1. And those pieces that survive game 2 go on to game 3.

Two other rules:
1) Only 1 feat allowed per character
2) No Support allowed

And for this, I've already put in some deep thought as to what I want to run (perhaps too much thought). So here are the 4.5 teams I'm considering running:

1) Ultimates (AKA "I can't get ahold of Ultimates Thor so here's the next best thing)
UL E Captain America (89)
Av U Iron Man (154) w/Armor Piercing (10)
MM E Giant-Man (109)
UL V Hawkeye (73) w/Spotter (5)
Av E Wasp (49)
UL V Black Widow (59) w/Takedown (6)
UL R Scarlet Witch (72)
UL R Quicksilver (63)
UL E Falcon (75)
UL E Iron Widow*2 (118/236)
TOTAL: 1000

Not a whole lot thought out here otherwise. I just like Ultimates, and figured it might be a good chance to throw as many of them as I can on a team. Unfortunately, no one at my venue has Thor apparently, so I'll have to do without ('cus he would have been an obvious inclusion)

2) Armor (AKA "Flight & Damage Reducers for everyone!")
MU U Iron Man (100)
AV U Iron Man (154)
AV V Spider-Man (111) w/Thunderbolts (5)
MU E Box (125) w/Thunderbolts (5)
MU V Colossus (158) w/Unstoppable (5)
AV E Iron Widow*2 (118/236)
AV R Stingray*2 (29/58) w/Thunderbolts (5/10)
AV R Guardsman (32)
TOTAL: 999

I also happen to like Armor, so this was an obvious possibility.

3) Big Guns With a Slight Chance of Cheese (AKA "Power Cosmic Decides to Go Out and Smash Stuff, and Bring Along Green Scar and His Pet Gorilla" :devious:)
AV U Silver Surfer (231) w/Armor Piercing (10)
SN LE The Mighty Thor (286) w/Thundering Blow (20)
AV U Stardust (171) w/Automatic Regeneration (12)
MU U Green Scar (230) w/Fortitude (12)
AV BST Ken Hale (14)
TOTAL: 999

No real theme here, I just decided to put together a team of power pieces (averaging over 200 points.) Yeah, I'm hurt big if I loose one, but I also get to have fun smashing stuff .
I originally considered making this a team of the four Galactus Heralds plus Mighty Thor, but then realized they didn't fit on a 1000 point team. So I messed around with the potential pieces and got the above result.

But as I was typing the above team up, I came to another realization, giving me:

3.5) Big Guns With a Slight Chance of Cheese v1.5 (AKA "Power Cosmic Goes Out to Smash Stuff and Let Ultimate Hulk Tag Along" :devious:)
AV U Silver Surfer (231)
AV U Stardust (171) w/Auto Regen (12)
AV U Firelord (176)
AV U Tarrax the Tamer (218)
AV U Hulk (187)
TOTAL: 995

4.5) Avengers (AKA "Fun with Thunderbolts!")
MU U Iron Man (100)
AV V Black Panther (92) w/Thunderbolts (TB) (5)
SI Va Ms. Marvel (168) w/TB (5)
AV R Giant-Man (82) w/TB (5)
AV V Spider-Man (111) w/TB (5)
AV R Thunderstrike (100)
SI E Spider-Girl (77) w/Takedown (6)
SI U Hercules (142) w/TB (5)
AV R Ronin (55) w/TB (5)
AV R Stingray (29) w/TB (5)
TOTAL: 997

Look at all the Thunderboltie goodness! Which means it's both flexible while taking best advantage of my "1 feat per character" limit, especially since I'm rather limited in the feats I own.

So yeah, I probably over thought my team choices. But what opportunity and fun I shall have!

So what do you guys think?

Cool tournament idea! I think I'll have to run that myself sometime. :)

I like the Ultimates team best, but I figure when you get a tournament this size then it gives you a chance to play a cool theme like that and throw everyone on it.

How many turns per round, or is it just based on time limit? 1,000 pt games will make the turns take forever!

I'm not sure, actually, but I imagine he's planning a time limit. I'm dang sure he's not expecting anyone to finish off all their opponents characters in the first game (though it could happen). Or at least, for that to be something that many people run into.

Though I can only imagine it would really stink for anyone who does have their team wiped out in the first game and gives their opponent 1000~ points right off the bat.

Hey, if you do run a tournament like that yourself some time, let me know how it goes. :)

The venue I play at recently did somthing simillar to this scenario. It was a battle royal, 1000 pt unrestricted. 4 players to a map. The stipulations were any damage aquired would carry over to the next game and you could only attack the person on your left. You could still outwit, perplex, or prob control anyone on the board. Powers such as pulse wave did damage to everyone in the blast radius as long as the attack was made against the person on the left. Poison worked normally being activated by any adjacent non-friendly character. It was very interesting hunting down the guy on my left while running from the guy on my right.

So what kind of team did you play for that scenario?

Hmm...I'd think that having alot of regen pieces would be the way to go in something like this. There is no Support, but do the figs that don't get ko'ed get put back on their starting clicks between rounds? If not Regen is definately something that should be considered. Another thing to consider is Mystics. It might not play a big role in deciding if you win the first round, but in later rounds those clicks of feedback can make a real difference. Finally, if none of that appeals to you, go with Energy Steal. Pieces like Morbius or Omega Red can deal out some significant damage all while healing themselves.

I think if I run it, I will add a rule that the bottom 50% of players get to resurrect one KOed figure each round. Otherwise they will have a really nasty time of it, and could end up with no figures in the final round for sure.

So what kind of team did you play for that scenario?

I played...

SN Thanos 267pts
Repulsor Shield 25pts
Crisis Darkseid 210pts
Fortitude 25pts
Crisis Kyle Rayner 182 pts
Crisis The Chief 63pts
AV Scarlet Witch (SR) 35pts
SI Doctor Strange 149pts
Inside Information 4pts

And 40 more pts of feats that I cant remember at the moment.
The team worked really well with Kyle TKing people all over plenty of Perplex and Outwit, massive Damage output and attack values and the best part was when the game was over, the pieces that had taken damage I put next to Chief in the starting area at the begining of the next game and had him use support on them. All in all it worked quite well.
