Hi, since there is apparently a growing number of players interested in Star Wars Minis now in our 'lil community, i thought it appropriate that we have a thread made for discussions regarding star wars minis.
Right now there are only 3 available booster/expansions available to us:
Champions of the Force
Alliance & Empires
The force unleashed.
There is also a Battle of Hoth Set for those wanting to have a squad of imperial and rebel alliance figures.
I am unsure if we will be recieving any of the newer expansions such as Legacy of the Force and Knights of the Old republic, but we can hope for the best. Also the latest expansion will be out come november: Clone Wars. This will also have a starter set with 6 figures, a rulebook and a map. (Not like the revenge of the sith gameboard though.)
This is also an invitation to those players who also have Star Wars minis. Since we don't have an official playing group, we can start one ourselves.;)

How useful is obi-wan and Han Solo of Hoth on a Rebel Squad?

Han Solo of Hoth is 33 points has Cunning Attack (+4 attack, +10 damage against characters that haven't been activated),double attack and Evade (when hit by a non-adjacent attack roll d20 with a save of 11 for no damage:grin:)
80 HP, 18 defense, 8 attack, 20 damage. Can potentially kill 2 standard fodder troopers.
If you'd compare that to say Han Solo on Tautaun, accurate shot, cunning attack, mobile attack, heal and speed. It makes the initial one seem a bit lacking. Honestly though it would depend on what else is in your squad. (Or throw that Han in a New Republic Squad with Jaina Solo in it:cheeky: gotta love affinity...)
Obi-wan from Rebel Storm is 38 points, has double attack, healing and lightsaber sweep. Defense may be a bit lower when compared to other versions that came out, but Obi-wan is playable and has a decent force rating. Unless you're talking about Obi-wan from Unleashed, then the answer is a definite yes. (Force renewal on a character that can heal sweet...)

Um...it's not what's the best Alvin, it's what's currently available.
Champions Of the Force contains many characters with force ratings, has more republic and Sith factions.
Alliance & Empires contains more Empire and Rebel Factions. If you're not to picky about the stuff you'll be getting go for i. Just don't expect many a lightsaber in your squad. (this expansion I think is the 30th anniversary expansion and has a different base)
Force Unleashed is based on the latest video game of Lucas Arts of the same name. It has Rebels and Imperials as well but also allows you to collect huge/big figures, hence the big boxes. (Note there's a difference between Empire and Imperial. It's just more evident with the Legacy of the force expansion)
With any luck NG will be ordering the next expansion coming november.:) But you'll have to choose between those expansions. Also some characters are from the Star Wars Expanded Universe and won't be easily recognizable if you just followed the movies.

STAR WARS MINIS 101 A - Game Basics
This is for those fellow clixers who might be interested in playing if just for fun even. I'll be posting simple guides like this every now and then, hope it helps.
To start you'll need a D20 dice, some tokens to mark HP (or a pen and paper), a map (starter sets normally come with one)
I.Build a squad. Each squad contains figures from 1 faction. Factions can be : Rebel, Imperial, Empire, Yuuzhan Vong, Old Republic, Republic, Sith, Mandalorian, Fringe(can be included into any factions) etc.
So for example you can have a Separatist build of 100 points:
Darth Sidious, Dark lord of the sith 61
Super Battle Droid 10 x 2
Battle Droid Officer 9
Battle Droid 4 x 2
total: 98
II. Set up squad on the map.
III. Roll for intitiative (Higher player decides who goes first.)
* Games are played in rounds, each round is played until players can no longer activate any character.
IV. game phase
- 2 activations per phase
- Activations
A. Move (regular move of 12 or 6 and attack or attack and 6 move)
B. Attacks can be against adjacent characters or line of sight/ranged
* When determining line of sight, if it crosses low objects (green bordered terrain) target gets +4 to defense. Also a character with cover can't be the target of an enemy unless it is the closest enemy.
V. Force points
Some characters have force ratings. Normally shown as Force 1 etc...You can use force points to either reroll a bad roll (Ala Probability Control) or too increase your move by +2. Or use it on a force power.
Ex.
General Grievous, Supreme Commander has a force rating of 1. You can
use it to increase your move to 14 or 8 squares and attack/vice versa.
You can only use force points on your own turn/phase.
VI. Roll for initiative.
When all characters have been activated, both players roll for intiative once again to start a new round.

SW minis plays exactly like DnD.. and has the same fun game mechanic as well (basically sabay sila nag adapt ng new rule set)

Only have two named ones (Bastila Shan and some Sith). But have a couple of generic sith and old republic jedis and the troops. I'll bring them one time so you can check them out :)
I'm not sure if the other players will agree, but one thing I like about star wars is its balance. Thanks to the combined fire mechanic and commander effects, a squad of generic troops (especially if accompanied by a commander or two) can hold its own against a lone powerful jedi.

I agree. Rebel troopers can swarm and overpower Republic era Jedi. Combined fire is fun, very useful against commanders and high defense opponents.:grin:
Which in a way is kinda true, you can overwhelm characters/Heros. There is no super character in the game. It boils down to battlefield tactics.;) I'll take a squad of republic commandos over a single Jedi/Sith anyday.

Compared to what Joel and Nicky have, i a modest collection of republic and NJO era squads. No point in posting what i have since i got no extras... As to your question on Starter sets, i don't know if there are any available now but NG might order more stocks. So be hopeful, with any luck they'll have the recent starters and not just the ROTS one.

This is part 2 of SWM 101. I'll focus this time on the ff:
Attack -Critical Hits and Critical Misses
-Combined Fire
- Attacks of opportunity
Replaces Attack
Force Powers
I. Attack - Critical Hits and Critical Misses
A d20 roll of 20 is considered a critical hit. On a critical hit the character automatically deals double (2x) damage to the target. However a Droid character/target ignores the effects of the critical hit. Droids are considered immune for the purposes of a critical hit and do not recieve 2x damage.
A d20 roll of 1 is considered a critical miss. On a critical miss the character automatically misses the target, even if the attacking character needs only a 1 to hit the target.
II. Attack - Combined Fire
A character can combine fire with other friendly characters to increase the attack value for one attack.
- The character(s) that will combine fire must have a line of sight to the target
- Characters with Melee attack or those that deal 0 damage cannot give or benefit from combined fire.
To combine fire, activate the chosen character. This will give a +4 attack bonus for that attack, for each character activated in this manner. If the character has a special ability that allows it to attack more than once per turn you can use combined fire with different allies for the succeeding attacks.
III. Attack - Attacks of Opportunity
An attack of Opportunity is triggered when an enemy character moves OUT OF A SQUARE adjacent to a character.
-Attacks of opportunity are optional
-there is no limit to the number of attacks of opportunity a character can make per turn BUT a character can only make one (1) attack of opportunity per a given characters turn.
-you cannot combine fire for an attack of opportunity
ex.1 A clone trooper moves away from General Grievous, supreme commander. General grievous can make an attack of opportunity. Although general grievous has the special ability melee attack: double attack, general grievous can only make 1 AOP against the clone trooper.
ex. 2 A Yuuzhan Vong warrior moves past an elite rebel trooper. It becomes adjacent to the rebel trooper and moves out of the square adjacent to the rebel trooper. Tha rebel trooper may make one (1) attack of opportunity against that Yuuzhan Vong Warrior.
IV. Replaces attack
Some characters have special abilities that say "replaces attacks". A character can use the special ability instead of making regular attacks.
ex. Grenades (Replaces attacks: range 6; 10 damage to target and to each character adjacent to that target, save 11)
V. Force powers
Some characters have a force rating denoted by Force X, where x = the number of force points
ex. Force 5, the character has 5 force points
A force point may be used to increase speed by +2 or to reroll a bad dice roll.
Force points may be used only once per turn. (Unless otherwise stated on the character card)
Ex.
Force 4
Lightsaber Deflect (Force 1: When hit by a nonmelee attack, this character takes no damage with a save of 11)
To use Lightsaber deflect the character spends 1 force point. After using the power, that character now only has 3 force points.
Ex. 2
Force 3
Sith Lightning 30 (Force 2 Replaces attacks range 6: 30 damage)
The character can spend 2 force points and deal 30 damage to a target. The character can move 6 before or 6 after using the force power (It replaces the attack of the usual move attack or attack move action)

Sith faction has pretty good stuff but we'll need to get KOTOR first for it to be competitive enough. The KOTOR expansion has a lot of old republic and sith units.

Honestly? I prefer the republic faction. Ganda kasing tignan yung mga clones in action. That and prequel movie jedi andun. Okay sana rebels but for some reason ayaw ko gumawa ng rebellion era squads...:laugh:
But if it's about factions with the most number of available figures it's either rebel or Empire. Yung Sith Marami na rin kaso most good ones are hard to get...:ermm: And ang mahal ng point cost nila.
In this game it isn't about the heroes of the factions duking it out. Kahit si General Windu can be defeated by a Storm trooper squad with just the right commander effects. It's more strategy than brute power.;)
Right now my favorite factions are Republic and New Republic. (That and kasi maraming force users open sa factions na iyon.:grin:)
Aha well I just bought them to collect me some jedis.. maganda sculpt ng mga jedis kasi haha and of course I want imperial troops and clone troops! haha

I'm a fan of the games: "Knights of the Old Republic" and "Knights of the Old Republic 2" also known as KotoR. That's why I'm collecting the figures from the game, who are the Old Republic Jedi.
I'm also collecting the Ancient Sith who appeared in, or were mentioned in KotoR, like Darth Nihilus. Darth Revan is also one of my wants since your character in KotoR is Darth Revan. That's the great plot twist in the game. :grin:

Guys, some clarifications lang about certain special abilities.
Melee Attack: A character with melee attack can only attack adjacent opponents. If it is not printed on the card and hasn't been errata-ed then you can do range attacks as well.
Double Attack/Triple Attack/Quadruple Attack: To use the extra attacks granted by these abilities, a prerequisite is for the character NOT TO MOVE. You cannot move 6 squares and declare quadruple attack. It simply will not work. This is not limited to only melee characters. These abilities DO NOT WORK WITH ATTACKS OF OPPORTUNITY.
Twin Attack: Characters with Twin attack can attack the same target more an additional time.
Ex. Mariss Brood has Double Attack:Twin Attack. She can move up to 6 squares then attack the same target twice (2) or stay put and attack 1 target 4 times or two targets 2 times. Since she has lightsaber assault she could attack the same target 4 times. This is not quadruple attack, only the effects of her twin attack special ability and a Lightsaber assault working hand in hand.;)
P.S. Don't throw the check list included in boosters (Well at least keep one) It has explanations for powers released in a particular expansion.;)

Usual squad builds can range from 100, 150 and 200 points. If we're going to get used to tournament builds i suggest you guys use those squad builds. Hehe you're too used to DnD hindi warband yung term sa SWM,:)
Nicky, i just realized, if you got lord vader from bounty hunters...he's 71 points of dark side chaos. Lakas pala niya. On his lightsaber sweep, his twin attack would kick in allowing him to attack each adjacent character twice. Now that's Vader. Not like the other versions that came out. Wow...:grin: And he's got a plethora of other force powers that would be just as fun to combo. Master of the force, force leap,sith rage....haha
I wish i could go, but siguro all i can do is drop by...busy kasi with work:ermm:

The rules for pits have been updated to take into account involuntary movement effects from various "unleashed" Force powers, such as Force Push. Add the following text to the rulebook entry:
"If a character is involuntarily moved onto a pit square, stop its movement in the nearest square adjacent to the pit and make a save of 11. On a successful save, the character remains adjacent to the pit. On a failure, it is defeated. Characters with abilities that allow them to enter pit squares (such Flight) make a save of 6 instead."

Umm... i was going to say this when clone wars arrived but i might as well. There's a new initiative rule for SWM, it's yet to take in effect, i suspect when Clone wars is released next friday (US).
The first player for a skirmish now only gets 1 activation for the first phase/turn of the round. It was done to avoid dealing massive amounts of damage to the opponent. It's been on the WOTC SWM forums, i was just waiting for the right time. (Pat kasi oh...:laugh:)

For you guys who like the Sith Faction here's a fun piece to look forward to especially for the older sith units.
Darth Sidious Hologram and Human Soldier of fortune (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/CloneWarspreview4)
I'm referring to Darth Sidious.He's 11 points has 20 defense, 20 Hp not attack or damage but he's got a fun commander effect to exploit.
Commander Effect: Allied characters within 6 squares gain Force Renewal 1.
So your sith troopers/massasi mutants etc can all get 1 force every time they activate. While they don't have Force powers to spend it on, you could use it to reroll or to move an extra +2 squares.
They should do a Yoda Version of this one:cheeky: Except sana renewal 3. Hahahaha
played a round of sw minis kanina, and it was fun... (at the expense of conrad hahaa)

played a round of sw minis kanina, and it was fun... (at the expense of conrad hahaa)

oh yeah! played luke champion of the force and rebel commandos! that commander effect is sick! forces your opponent to come at you not to mention I killed them republic commandos with grenades! (that was fun) and luke whooped qui gons arse! haha
use the force (crit hit) combo with flurry attack and the second attack (from double attack) for a total of 3 attacks and a maximum potential of 80 damage! haha
but seriously cons has a swarm of sith troopers now ready and waiting!! May exar kun na cya a deadly sith!!
For those interested buying the hoth action pack is really worth it! (kahit 3k cya) you get a very very deadly vader in that set, tons of rares in the action pack luke and han on tauntaun, that liea commander... hoth atgar cannon... imperial e-web cannon.... not to mention AT-ST and a rebel snowspeeder, maps and the rulebook!

btw guys, stealth in SWM isn't like stealth in clix.
Stealth: If a character has cover, he does not count as the nearest enemy for an attacker more than 6 squares away.
Although from the WOTC site: "Essentially, Stealth allows you to attack without being attacked in return -- a squad full of characters with Stealth could be very difficult to beat if they carefully find cover every round and always keep their distance. However, a character with Accurate Shot can still target an enemy with Stealth who is more than 6 squares away."
Accurate Shot: Can attack an enemy with cover even if it's not the nearest enemy.
Oh and again, Double/Triple/quadruple attack only grants the additional attacks IF the charater doesn't move. You cannot move 6 squares and then use the additional attacks granted by the special ability.;)
So Pat, your luke can do a maximum 80 damage, including double attack. Other wise you can only do 60. And it can't be comboed with double attack if you move. Luke has to be stationary.
Oh and i'd hate to say it cons, but you probably got a taste of what's called "super stealth". I have got to get me a Nom Anor....

Here's some additional news.
For future expansions, including Clone Wars (Oct-Nov 2008), Imperial Entanglements (Feb 2009) and Jedi Academy (June 2009), the usual 60 pcs per set will be trimmed down to 40. As released in the Gencon 2008 announcements.
Imperial Entanglements will focus on Episodes V, VI and characters from the expanded universe of that time.
Jei Academy will cover Jedi from all eras, masters padwans, Knights etc (Haha parang COTF all over again...maybe with any luck they'll add Kyp Durron, Kam and Tione Solusar, and Anakin Solo:cheeky:)
That ought to make it easier to get stuff from the newer expansions. I can't wait for next year. :grin:
yup anton 80dmg nga, not bad for a 49 pt figure not to mention rebel swarms work well... mukhang promising ang sw minis next year ah, unlike the other gameline (peste).

Point of clarification:
In SWM, if the force power says replace attacks or replace turn then you either use it in place of the attack after moving (replace attack) or using the power takes up your whole turn. Right?
If the force power does not say any of the above, is it like a free action? Can you use it and still act during your turn?

Actually, nageenjoy din ako with SWM.. hehe I have been playing with Joel's Imperial army for several games now.. ang ayaw ko lang sa kanya yung unlimited range (or nearest) kasi on an open map, I don't even need to leave the starting area to deal damage.. Yun lang naman but otherwise, masaya rin!

Javi, It depends on the force power in question. Let's say your using Sith rage (yeah i know...) You spend 1 force point and then gain it's bonus of +10 damage to all attacks made by that character this turn. So you could move and attack with a +10 damage.
Other powers have a more defensive nature, like force defense, lightsaber riposte, lightsaber block and reflect. Most of these powers that react to attacks or special abilities will only trigger when you would ordinarily take damage.
But generally speaking, if the stat card doesn't say anything, it will either take effect during your turn (As a "free action of sorts") and could be used in conjunction with a special ability or during your opponent's turn to prevent damage/special abilities or force powers. (That's why i said it depends on the force power;))

Anyway, SW is fun too... although Qui gon jins team really sucks as joel literally wiped our jedi ### off with his blasted rebel forces(besides suffering defeat at Pats hands last sat).
But we drew first blood naman with my rebel forces led by Han Solo on Tauntaun and Princess Lea against his Darth Maul led team. My sith team packs a wallop to as we ambushed Nickys Old Republic with a miraculous win last sat also...

Added clarification to SWM:
If it says replace turn, you can't move, like the force power of master kota.
You can also move then do two attacks if you have Greater mobile ability.
Luke and yoda can move 12 squares then stun an enemy x3 (master of the force 3), because the stun is a special ability and doesn't say replace attack/turn.
Luke and yoda can also from starting square use force stun x3, move 6 squares then attack with his twin attack....
More power to darkjacen in continuing to promote SWM sa pinas....

As for the SWM competitive scene, one sure way to kill it is the lack of new stocks. Playing with the same characters can get boring. And boredom leads to anger... and anger leads to pain... and pain leads to... well you know the rest. NG has had problems with supply, with new sets arriving more than a few months late not uncommon. This is because of things that can or cannot be controlled. That's why we've resorted to other sources when they're available.
And nakapanood na ba kayo nung new Clone Wars series? episode 5 na so far and magaganda lahat visually and story-wise. Hopefully this series would generate enough interest to prolong the SWM skirmish game.

Yeah, i kinda like the new series. The first episode with Yoda was a fun watch. Including his trade-marked laughter.:laugh: So far 5 episodes nga, the most recent one, Rookies, is out on some video sharing sites.
But SWM isn't going to revolve around that alone, there's a new Extended Universe book series to be released soon plus the ongoing Star Wars Legacy and KOTOR.

Mga kabayan, you might wanna keep the X-1 Viper droids, they're very kick ### with the new Gen. Greivous from clone wars set, his cmdr. effect is not limited to within 6 squares, +4 atck, +4 def. and droid followers gain twin attack....
Paired with the battle droid officer that gives another +4 attack, they're shooting @ +16, with double attack if they don't move and twin....

Force Powers 101 - Lightsaber force powers
It occured to me that with the number of Lightsaber worded Force powers, we'd need simething to refer to. This will cover the current lightsaber powers. Every other day i will post additional force powers and what they do.
Lightsaber powers can be used to replace attacks (normal use), to increase the number of attacks and to defend against melee or range attacks. The force point requirement differs depending on the power. (In example, Darth Vader unleashed's Lightsaber throw, cost )
Defense-used lightsaber powers
Lightsaber Block
(Force; 1 Force point) When a character using this Force power is hit by a melee attack, it can avoid the damage with a save of 11. *
Lightsaber Deflect
(Force; 1 Force point) When a character using this Force power is hit by a nonmelee attack, it can avoid the damage with a save of 11. *
Lightsaber Reflect
(Force; 2 Force points) When a character using this Force power is hit by a nonmelee attack, it can avoid the damage with a save of 11. If this character avoids damage in this way, the attacker takes 10 points of damage unless it makes a save of 11. *
Lightsaber Riposte
(Force; 1 Force point) When a character using this Force power is hit by a melee attack, it can make an immediate attack against that attacker. *
*For all these defensive powers, the player must decide whether to use this Force power immediately after the attack hits.
Offense-based lightsaber powers
Lightsaber Sweep
(Force; 1 Force point) Instead of making its normal attack or attacks, a character using this Force power makes one attack against each enemy adjacent to it instead of using the targeting rules. *

Lightsaber Throw 2:
(Force; 2 Force points) Instead of making its normal attack or attacks, a character using this Force power makes 2 attacks against the same target enemy within 6 squares.
Lightsaber Throw 5:
(Force; 5 Force Points) Instead of taking its normal turn, a character using this Force power chooses on enemy within line of sight, even if it is in cover and is not the nearest enemy. (Even an enemy with Stealth can be chosen.) This character makes 2 attacks against the chosen enemy and 2 additional attacks against each character adjacent to it (enemes and allies alike).
*The effects of lightsaber throw counts as a nonmelee attack for the purposes of effects such as Lightsaber Deflect and Molecular Shielding.

hehe wag ka mag alala harold.. the starter set ng clone wars ay sobrang sulit.. malakas ang mga units sa loob ng starter na to... as for boosters. unlike other games.. usually isang booster magagamit mo ang laman espacially kung alam mo hinahanap mong units.. most commons and uncommons are useful at vital sa squad mo.. dnt worry pang jump start kasi ung unang tourney kaya sealed.. you will get to use your boosters naman sa game... and subsequent tournies naman bukod sa LE figure prizes may maps at booster draft.. so all in all not a bad deal..

That's not a problem I can teach you how to play it. Since you're familiar with DnD, it won't be that difficult for you to transition into this game. Boosters are roughly the same cost as with the other game, starters maybe same din but we'll know by the time it gets here.
Wow...and here i thought we'd only get Clone Wars. Not bad, may KOTOR (Ataru Style!)and Legacy. And more COTF. (General Windu here i come!)
Cons, Kung habol mo sith, check mo KOTOR. You'll find a decent number of sith and even manadalorian there. Not all are usable but it ought to have what you want.

Do you guys really want me to get into the discussion?:cheeky: Darth Vader is considered one of the great sith lords for his part in decimating the Republic's Jedi Order. Darth Sidious is considered a mastermind, a great sith lord for his careful manipulation of the Galactic Republic and the formation of the Empire, near destruction of the Jedi Order.
Each Sith Lord brings something new to the old order. Currently the Sith lord in the recent storyline is Darth Krayt, an old Jedi who turned sith, got tortured by the Yuuzhan Vong, Just like Darth Caedus, and created a new sith order, now following the rule of one (One Sith order) instead of the rule of 2 placed in effect by Darth Bane or Anedduu i think (One master, one apprentice)

Darth Vader is NOT the Baddest Sith...for the sole reason that natauhan siya in the end and cursed his evil ways. In terms of raw power maybe Darth Bane, pati sa SWM malupit yan!!! (although I prefer Exar Kuhn of all the Sith figs in my possesion right now...imagine 23 defense and 19 attack? plus a whole lots of powers that's really worth his high point).
But if you're looking for the real authority in Star Wars Who's who...no one can beat the original SWM God: Anton aka Darkjacen - he's the guy you ask for these things. All Hail Anton...without whom this community would not have started in the first place!!! ;)

Before i continue with the force powers guide, let me explain a little about Commander Effects.
Commander Effects:
Some characters have a commander effects that grant bonuses and abilities to other allies in a skirmish battle. These can have a minimum range (sometimes 6 squares) or have unlimited range. However, you have to count doors, wall terrain and other terrain when counting range.
Bonuses granted by multiple copies of the same commander effect, DO NOT STACK. You cannot have 3 battle droid commanders and get their +4 bonus to attack x3. It's possible to have other commander effects in play, but if the commander effects grant a bonus to one stat, ONLY THE HIGHEST APPLIES.
So example:
I have 2 Storm Trooper Commanders, a storm trooper and a storm trooper officer
Storm Trooper Commander has the ff Commander Effect:
At the end of its turn, this character can choose 1 adjacent non-unique follower. That follower gets +10 damage until the end of this character's next turn, or until this character is defeated.
Storm Trooper officer has the ff Commander Effect:
Trooper followers within 6 squares get +3 Attack if they do not move this turn.
The regular storm trooper can benefit from two commander effects. The Officer and Commander. Although i have 2 commanders, this will not give me a net bonus of +20 damage, only 10. Also if i had another commander that granted a +4 attack, i would only be able to get +4 (it being the higher of the two) and not +7 Attack. Either way the regular stormie can shoot for +3 attack and, +10 damage. Just as an example.;)
Some characters are also not subject to commander effects. Characters that are Savage and those that are droids (Most of the time, except with General Grievous) cannot be affected by this. Also commander effects end only when the character with the effect is defeated. (Kinda like warcraft 3 hero auras if you know what i mean....actually it is really like that:grin:) Also some commander effects only work on non-unique characters.

My post doesn't pinpoint anything to anyone, I live here in Canada which I play to Canadians, they find me as sort of a joker, coz I joke a lot....
I find it also funny when I visit hcrealms' philippines heroclix discussion thread. Oh man, madalas sumakit ang tyan ko sa kakatawa reading the posts there when they call each other names.
The only downside in joking I guess is when somebody becomes pikon, I guess darkjacen doesn't mean any harm, he just probably doesn't want things to get out of hand. And I guess same goes to iron_cowboy which I thing he wants it to be a fun and friendly thread that everybody will enjoy browsing into....

Name calling's fine, there's no harm in that. But we can't let this go too far. Before we know it the thread will be about anything except Star Wars, which wasn't my intention when i started this and promoted SWM. Fun is one thing, but it also has to be respectful. Some people have favorite characters in SW, people have to be a bit more tactful about that. I'm also trying to keep the thread as clean as possible, i meant no disrespect.;)
Back on Track.
Elou, you really don't need to have any Jedi in your team. Yes they're powerful but with most of the figures of Jedi/Sith origin you need to get close to be in a position to deal significant damage.
Imperials and Rebels are the most common as Clixboy said earlier but you could always throw in fringe characters to mix it up a bit. Jango and Boba Fett are good, but you can also go for relatively cheap (Point-wise and Peso-wise) characters. Fringe are your best fillers.:cheeky: Plus they're relatively easy to come by.;)
Just as an example.
100 point Republic Squad:
Republic Commando Boss 19
Republic Commando Scorch x 3 48
Republic commando training sergeant 30
Total: 97
None of these are unique. Instead of relying on a Rare or Very Rare Jedi, you can use commander effects to your advantage. Almost all pof these characters have stealth, plus Scorch will be even deadlier with the CE of Boss and the added abilities thanks to the sergeant. See no Jedi and they're all uncommon. (I really should try this out sometime)

Well standard squad builds in SW minis is 100pts then 150 then 200pts, kumbaga a 200pt game is equivalent to a 400pt DnD epic match.
All units have pros and cons in sw minis, it all boils down to the right combination, tactic and of course the vagaries of the die roll :)
The only fun part sa SW minis is walang range limitation (unless specified) so no need to count squares when shooting. And most melee fighters are really good melee fighters... and shooters are good at shooting.. and some characters who are actually good in both... and dito sa SW minis there are what you call tentpole units , titans if you may call them and they are indeed strong (but not unbeatable) perfect example of a hard to kill unit is Darth Bane... 82pts of sheer power if you may...hehehe

Glad to hear that then! If Jedi are what you want, you have options from Old Republic, Republic and New republic.
Your best bet would be Republic Era/Faction. So far they have the most memorable characters from the Star Wars Universe, plus adequate supporting troops such as clones etc. I always get a kick seeing my squad led by Kit Fisto or Obi-Wan, brings back memories of Episode 2 and 3, not to mention the clone wars animated series.

Combining fire requires that you activate a character to give a +4 bonus for an attack AND that the characters combining fire have line of sight to the target. It doesn't count towards your 2 activations per phase/turn but you do activate the character.
The rulebook glossary doesn't mention that you can't move-attack/attack-move. It just says that when a character attacks. (I might have missed something though)

Yes, the character combining fire should have line of sight to the target at the start of the action right and is considered ativated and can't move but doesn't count towards your 2 activations per phase/turn.
Lets say a character is combining fire with Boba Fett Bounty hunter that has mobile and twin, Boba BH will get an additional +4 for his first attack but not with his twin and can still use his mobile ability. You can also combine fire towards Boba's twin attack from another character provided they can shoot doesn't say melee attack on it's card....

To put it simply, A follower is a character without commander effects. A commander grants bonus abilities or stats through commander effects. But commanders can still make use of other commander effects, unless otherwise stated on the card itself.

I'm not so sure on this, but I think the only time a commander can benefit from another commander effect is when The wording on the other commander effect states the word "allies", kindly check....
For example:
Mandalore The Indomitable's cmdr effect say:
Mandalorian allies gain momentum
So Boba fett, Mercenary Commander (being a commander himself) might benefit from momentum, again kindly check....
not sure din dito e.. ang alam ko kac followers are units that have no commander effect... but certain commander effects override this rule... I am a bit inclined to say that stormtrooper officers are (fluffwise and sens wise) considered as followers... since si Vader ang nag bibigay ng CE. But I will check the rules forums first

My friend suggested using hot water to soften the plastic then put the fig in front of a fan or aircon. However, I have not tested this yet.
I will let you know if my attempt to fix my dark jedi's lightsaber is successful.
Cons - bent lightsaber to straight sabi niya, hindi soft lightsaber to hard ha! :laugh:

Dip it in hot boiling water for at least 2 -3 minutes, and have an ice cold water in a bucket nearby, straighten the said lightsaber before dipping it into the ice cold bucket, hope this helps....

By the way patrick - mickey's suggestions for repairing lightsabers work. So if you have any damaged goods, they are easy to fix.

It came to my attention that there is a debate regarding when you can use force powers. About it being only once per turn.:noid:
A characters force points can only be used once per turn. To understand what that means let's go back to how the game is played in the first place:
A skirmish game is played in rounds. Each round is divided into phases, a character takes turns in each phase. On each character's turn, the player can use a character's force point only ONCE unless otherwise stated (Force mastery etc...)
So Game has rounds, each round is divided into phases, on each phase a character can be activated, that is the definition of a turn.
The only drawback in using force points per turn in this manner is that some characters have a limited amount of force points to use for force powers, so unless a character has renewal or gains additional force points through the game (force spirit etc), you end up with the risk of running out of force points faster. Hence, you have to know the right time to use force points.
So for instance I spend 1 force point to use Knight speed. That action uses up that character's allotable force point usage for the turn. Other characters with force points can use force points and defacto force powers as well.
That doesn't stop you from using it on your opponents turn if your character can do so. Take for example Defensive powers such as Absorb, Lightsaber deflect/reflect/block.
Here's the text from the rulebook.
Once per turn: A character can spend force points only once per turn. However it may spend force points during other character's turns, if appropriate, and can do so multiple times in a round (if it has enough force points)
From the glossary of the advanced rulebook, page 33
A character can spend Force points only once per turn. Sometimes, though, a character can spend Force points on other characters’ turns, such as to reroll a failed save. In this case, a character can end up spending Force points more than once per round.
In my example the character used knight speed. If on his opponent's turn he is attacked by a close combat attack, and happens to have lightsaber block he can do so. It still follows the once per turn rule, but instead of using the force point on my turn, i used it on my opponents turn for defense. That is perfectly legal. So if i get melee attacked by another character, i could use lightsaber block again, since it's on another character's turn. But only if i have enough force points to do so. Or if i was targetted by grenades and failed a save roll, i could spend 1 point to reroll my save.
However lets say that my opponent had twin attack, i could use lightsaber block for the first attack, but not for the second since i've already used a force point for that turn.

Extra Attack allows a character to make an additional attack. This stacks with double/triple/quadruple attack.
So for example i have a kashykk trooper that has double attack. A commander effect gives it extra attack. You could use double attack and then still use extra attack.
Extra Attack
On its turn, this character can make 1 cumulative extra attack instead of moving
On its turn, this character can make an extra attack, but it can't move if it does so. This works just like other special abilities that grant extra attacks, such as Double Attack. This extra attack stacks with those granted by other special abilities and commander effects, and it also stacks with Extra Attacks granted by different special abilities (so the same ally could receive multiple extra attacks in the same turn).

Since, we'll be seeing more of this later on in the games, it might as well be here explained.
Sight
Many Force powers and special abilities have a range of sight. They affect any target that the character using the power or ability can see.
Line of Sight
A character can see a target that it has line of sight to. Walls block line of sight. To determine line of sight, draw an imaginary line between any point in one character’s space and any point in the other character’s space. If any such line is not blocked by a wall, then the two characters have line of sight to each other. The line is clear if it doesn’t intersect or even touch walls.
Legal Target
An enemy must be a legal target for an attack, special ability, or Force power. The acting character must have line of sight to it. An enemy with cover is not a legal target unless it is the nearest. If one or more enemies are adjacent to the character, only those enemies are legal targets.
Range
Sometimes a Force power or a special ability works only within a listed range. This is the distance in squares between the attacker's and the defender's square, counting the defender’s square. Diagonals count as 2 squares. Low obstacles, difficult terrain, and pits do not affect range, but when counting range, you can’t trace a path through a wall (you count around it instead).
Replace Attacks
Some Force powers or special abilities have “replaces attacks” as a special cost. A character who uses such a Force power or special ability can’t make other attacks that turn, even if another ability allows extra attacks, and can’t replace more than one attack. When making an attack of opportunity, a character cannot use a Force power or special ability that replaces attacks. A character cannot use a Force power or special ability that replaces attacks in the same turn that it uses a Force power or special ability that replaces its turn.
Replaces Turn
Some Force powers or special abilities have “replaces turn” as a special cost. A character who uses such a Force power or special ability gives up its normal turn. End-of-turn effects are resolved normally after using the Force power or special ability that replaces the character’s turn. A character cannot use a Force power or special ability that replaces attacks in the same turn that it uses a Force power or special ability that replaces its turn.

Question about Accurate Shot:
A figure with accurate shot can shoot a figure with Stealth right? But does the figure with AS ignore the cover provided by the terrain? How about cover provided by other characters?
unless specifically stated sa accurate shot... the only thing I think it ignores is stealth... but kung nakalagay na pati cover ignored then that's the time ignored ang cover.. unlike clix sa SW minis naka specify most of the time ang mga bagay na pwede at hinde pwede,...

Actually the way the ability was worded allows you to bypass the effects of stealth.
Stealth
If this character has cover, it does not count as the nearest enemy for choosing targets if the attacker is more than 6 squares away.
Stealth works this way. Normally a character can attack an enemy with cover only if that enemy is the nearest. If this character with stealth would be the nearest enemy, the next-nearest enemy counts as the nearest instead. Follow the normal rules for cover if the character with Stealth is within 6 squares of the attacker.
This is what accurate shot does:
Accurate Shot
This character can attack an enemy with cover even if it's not the nearest enemy.
So you can target characters even if they aren't the nearest enemy. Normally when you have cover, you can only target an enemy if it is the closest one. The enemy still gains a +4 bonus to Defense from cover regardless, but you can now shoot at him/her even if you're from the edge of the map.
It doesn't counter stealth, but it allows you to shoot at characters even if they aren't the nearest legal targets. With stealth, if the character is the target of an attack greater than 6 squares it doesn't become a legal target. Accurate shot allows you to shoot at any legal target period.:grin:
Cover bonus from other characters and from low cover still count though.
You can't think of it like stealth in clix, it will get you confused. (Because in all honesty Clix is more complicated than Star Wars will ever be)

Clarifications:
Save
Many special abilities and force powers require a save against a listed number to avoid or reduce any adverse effect. Rol a D20/ If the result of the roll equals or exceeds the listed number, the save succeeds.
If the rules text simply says "save" plus a number, the target of the effect makes a save. Sometimes the acting character makes the save instead. In that case, the rules text specifies that the character producing the effect makes the save.
I went over the manual again recently and realized that some of the save rolls we've been making in free plays were not correctly done. Often we've interpreted them to completely save a character from damage and effects. But based on the text, what the save roll for is not always damage and effects. Depending on where the save was indicated it either is for damage OR effects.
For Example, take Vader's Apprentice Unleashed's Force Power, force lightning 4:
Force Lightning 4 Force 4: replaces attacks, range 6; 50 damage to target. Huge or smaller characters are considered activated this round; save 16.
When making the save, it is not to prevent 50 damage, but to prevent the effect of activating characters. The same goes for several other force powers that have effects like this, Master Kota's Force Repulse 5. Obi-wan unleashed's force repulse 3 and so on; damage is not prevented on a save, the side effect that goes with the damage is.
However let's take another example Rebel Vanguard's Missiles:
Missiles 30 Replaces attacks: sight; 30 damage to target and to each character adjacent to that target; save 11.
The save here is not against any other effect other than damage. The same can be said for the special ability grenades:
Grenades 10 Replaces attacks; range 6; 10 damage to target and to each character adjacent to that target; save 11.
This is a bit more confusing, but to know what the save roll is for I suggest looking closely at where "save 6/11/16 etc..." is placed in the text of a power. It becomes a bit clearer then.

Mace who?? Isa pa yan sa na Kahoun Infestation last Monday and got finished off by Bobo PeKs missiles!!! :laugh: ...but that Windu is really a big headache pag nagamit ng maayos. Range lang ang weakness and so deadly sa melee. But Bane is more than a monster pagdating sa close combat..almost auto hit sa Jedis unless mag critical miss, can use 2 different force at a single turn, 80-100 damage depending kung ano kalaban (todas any jedi in 1-2 turns!!!) at 200 hit points!!! ..potah :eek:....fortunately I have one for sale at the low low price of 800php only!!! :laugh:

Kota is dangerous because of his force repulse. The way Joel plays Kota is very dangerous, he's almost always on the move though his Rebel troop "taxi". I doubt that they ever thought of it used that way.
Yes it is powerful and i'll second Pat's assumption, No character should consider becoming adjacent to any Mace Windu with Vaapad. The clone strike or COTF Mace is deadly in close. Clone strike mace for Vaapad, triple attack and block, while General Windu for his Force Absorb, vaapad, shatterpoint and triple attack.:speechles
But there are two things that are more dangerous to any squad with force users, An imperial squad with Admiral Thrawn (Joel's seen this first hand c/o Nicky) and a properly built Yuuzhan Vong Squad.
But as Nicky also said before, you don't need power figs to win this game, any small fry with the proper commander effects and tactics can beat even the strongest Jedi hunter.:grin:

You can only disembark at the beginning of the round so you cannot disembark midway in a round..... if the transport is destroyed passengers make a save of 6 if failed they are also defeated... passengers have cover while riding.. and they can attack as well...
I am trying to look into more units and clarifications and stuff hehe

Troop Cart
This character can transport up to 1 Large ally or 5 Small or Medium allies who end their moves adjacent to it. Remove those allies from the battle grid; they move simultaneously with this character, have cover, and are considered adjacent to it. They can make attacks, counting distance from this character.
That Part is clear enough i think.
A transported ally can return to the battle grid immediately before your first activation of the round. If this character is defeated, all transported allies are also defeated; save 6.
For those who'll ask anyway. You can put back in the map any allies on the Cart before your first activation of that round. So it is perfectly legal to put characters who rode the transport back on the map, on legal terrain. This will not count as an activation for that round so you can still do the legal one (if your the first player for that round) or two activations.
For Example.
Player A has a rebel troop cart, two rebel vanguards and an Luke Skywalker, Hoth Pilot unleashed. Player B has General Grievous, Supreme Commander and 3 Super Battle Droids.
Round 1. Player B wins initiative and opts to go first. On player A's Phase he moves his luke unto the Troop Cart. He then moves his troop cart. Both players continue activating characters until the round is over.
Round 2. Player A wins initiative and lets Player B move first. After Player B's first phase, Player A has the option of either putting Luke down on a square adjacent to the troop cart or not. This will not count as activating either character. He instead decides to keep luke on the cart, moves the cart etc.
Now if the troop cart was dealt damaged enough to KO it, The controlling player of the cart, player A has to roll a save of 6 to keep luke alive. On a failed roll Luke, regardless of how much damage he recieved if any, is also defeated.
That should be clearer.:grin:
yeah now when i think about it, ang keso pala ng troop cart na to imagine sending cotf luke and an enraged wookie chewy in front of your opponent haha

Your Moff Nyna Squad is scary. To be blunt it's a Super Stealth team thanks to Nyna's CE. Mas Ameda for His booming Voice to fix the low range of the CEs. Key here is Thrawn's Switch CE...yikes. Who cares about the bonus? You let the enemy come to you and switch your big hitters when they get too close. Not one commander effect at work but 2.
I don't find the prospect of hoping to hit a Gran only to find Vader breathing down my throat inviting. What's all the more freakish is that if thrawn is within 6 range, you also have the effects of Ysalamiri. Say goodbye to Lightsaber blocks and force assisted dice roll saves. :speechles

With Thrawn's master tactitian, Boba Mercenary get's his Cunning attack off, and even if I roll a one on a D20 dice, I still can re-roll it thanks to Moff Nyna's recon ability.
With this army, I can even negate super stealth with Vader's force sense so Boba Mercenary can target them with accurate shot. And Vader too can target enemies that have cloacked, because his light saber throw 5 ignores cover so basically any enemy fig is a legal target as long as Vader has line of sight to the enemy (ala accurate shot)....
So kayong tatlo ay may libreng rare or 10 uncommons from me when I attend one of your SWM tourneys there....
Yung Republic Jedi Masters are mostly paired up with the new obi-wan from the clone wars starter set and winning map that has lots of cover helps a lot. But I won't consider them as championship material (imho)...

But be it as it may...strategy pa rin ang magdadala sa yo to win a tourney even what game pa yan. Ive seen Harold (and yes, Even Xandy) win against people with more powerful figs simply with an almost "fun" team. This also happened sa DDM skirmishes with Charlon and his so-so team na mostly borrowed pa. :laugh:
Although mas broken ang figs ng SWM kesa Clix (IMO lang ha?)...figs will not always automatically grant victory to a player. Strategy still has a good place in this game.
...although SWM power figs, when used by a vet, will go a long way to ensuring a win. :speechles

What I've notice in SWM is that it usually boils down on your squad's synergy, this is why commons and uncommons in SWM can be really dangerous. And for the most part, activation control helps you kinda see what your opponents are planning to do or go, and last most important key is initiative control, unlike other minis game wher you roll only once for initiative, here in SWM, there's a lot of figs that has recon and 2 figs that have master tactitian namely Thrawn and Darth Revan....
Ooops, I guess D&D has the new champion rule where you can roll 2 D20 dice....

Yup, although with the parating na raw na cases ng SWM malamang bumaha ng mga ganyang mga figs dito...and the guy who can buy the most will have control of these "strategic" and all too powerful SWMs.
But fear not Darth Pubic Harold, all you need to do is concentrate on what figs you have or can purchase and think more on strategy and synergy.
...that should be enuff to win kahit mejo madugo ang dadaanan mo. :devious:

To be honest, in every tourney like SWM, tapat-tapat lang yan. If let say you faced a squad that your squad counters then good for you. Then this really good squad faces the counter squad na tatalo sa squad nya then, sa next round you might not face him and so on....
That squad I posted that has super stealth is easily beatable by the newer ifgs. Like Leia of Cloud city canuse her force sense that cancels stealth therefore allowing your shooters to target the gran raiders and without the gran raiders, that squad is not going to function well...
So don't be discourage, as I've mentioned, there's a lot of meta squads you can build from the new sets that you don't even have to buy or look for the older figs, although it's fun to have lots of squad variations that you can play if you have those guys.....:grin:
hehe thats why i love my rebel commandos led by their rebel commando leader hehehe, d mo sila pede tirahin unless katabi mo talaga :)

We've yet to get our share of the new sets here. (Although malapit na yun) And to be honest none of us have had the chance to play a SWM tourny. We'll have our first when the new stuff arrives.
But i expect great things from the new obi. (pricey though for 55 points) but that CE is just something. I just wish that Count Dooku of Serenno had a CE. While it's nice to have him as an anti-melee unit, malamang hindi siya yung magiging base ng separatist teams ko.:noid:
Super Stealth's good yes, but there are a lot of pieces that have force sense. Heck pwede din yung imperials na may It's a Trap. Remove stealth from the picture and it can be beat.

Favor lang, stop with the Darth Pubic thingy. That's easily identifiable sa realms. I don't want to get warned because of that.

...are people here in SWM Realms, hosted by HCRealms, so stiff that a little joke or 2 would not be allowed by our moderators? I've seen some threads more malicious and "greener" and yet it's still ok with the mods I know...yes, I do have some good friends na moderator natin sa realms.
So be cool people, hindi naman lahat ng tao pwedeng maging seryoso diba?...Variation is a part of who we all are...this still is a Heroclix community trying to start a Star Wars gaming system last time I checked.
This game should appeal to all not just a few...that's how Heroclix made it so big coz we all adjusted to varied individuals who wanted to play Clix. Now sa SWM, do we make it too stiff and make it appeal and playable only to a few seiously "elite" individuals or follow Heroclix's example and promote it to many?
Personally, Id rather play SWM with a happy Monday group at King Joel's office than at a stiff normal/supported tourney no matter how appealing the prizes are.
And I am talking like a Heroclix Judge here imparting some knowledge on how we started, grew and maintained Clix through the years.

Of course, tourney play will encourage us to play more competitively. It'll probably even help us brush up on the rules and intricacies of the game. I have a question pala re Prince Xizor and his interface with figures with the Black Sun ability.
Prince Xizor has a commander effect that grant allies with Grenades 10, Grenades 20 instead.
On the other hand, figures with the Black Sun ability gain Grenades 10 if they are in the same team as a character whose name contains Xizor or Vigo.
Does this mean that any Black Sun characters in the same team as Xizor will have Grenades 20?

Thats what I said...a little joke or two wouldnt hurt diba?:)..I doubt if I said anything too much naman in this beloved SWM Thread to truly merit the ire of moderators.
Any game would be so fun to play pag magaang ang feeling like Monday freeplays...competitive wise,well siguro naman our skills will speak for itself no matter what the figs we use. We could attract more potential players if we make this a friendly as well as a competitive community that understands the diversity of each individual...this in the long run will help the game survive and even grow.
Promote fun, and you make the game more interesting and worth joining.
Now back to the regular programming...Im selling many of my SWM figs to potential players who wants to join the game. I have good Rebel led by (Han Solo, Lea, Cart, etc) and Republic Armies that can help you to level the playing fields.

Yup, they do....
Unless, the fig that has the Black sun ability is a commander....
yup as long as the black sun guys are not commanders they can benefit from "different" commander effects, but if 2 effects of the same kind are in effect the one with the highest value goes to effect they do not stack :)

May question ulit ako.. si chadra fan pickpocket may opportunist which gives him +4 attack +10 damage to activated characters. Si Han solo on Tauntaun has cunning attack which gives him the bonus against characters which have not activated.
So ang question: If an opposing character breaks away from both Chadra fan and han solo, who gets to use the bonus? Chadra fan because the opposing character is activating or Han solo because the character will be activating palang?
the moment na gumalaw ka na considered activated ka na....si chadra ang may bonus since at the start palang ng turn mo activated ka na pag decided na ung character na aalis ang igagalaw

SWM is an expensive hobby. If you try to complete the VR, R, UC, C in a set be prepared to buy more than 1 case.:noid:
And honestly we wouldn't have the data re: case collation. I mean when we got into this there weren't cases anymore, just random boosters.:laugh: Try asking Mickey Mouse he might know.:classic:

In some sets like Clone Wars, VRs are bunched together, you may find a case of Clone Wars containing Yoda on Kybuck, and Anakin on Stap. The other bunch comes with Sidious Hologram and Gen Grievous Droid Army Commander in the case.

Yup that's why I want to focus on Force Unleashed because it has a lot of rebels and imperials. :) if I buy a case of that, I think i can use 80% of what I will get.

It took me some time looking for this but the transcript shows that the initiative ruling that we've tried to follow isn't an actual legal ruling. It wasn't stated on the new manual or on the erratas on WOTC that there is only 1 activation for the first player per round.

The only reason we followed DnD's 1 activation per first round was because we were led to believe that it was a change going to be implemented by Clone Wars. Since it's apparently not true i have to say that I'm not going to follow it.:grin:
Haha Harold if you want you can use it pero ako i'll switch back to the legal 2 activations:laugh:.
It's limiting and although it does make you think more, it handicaps the opponent more than you know:cross-eye. (Lalo na kung yung initiative rolls mo are anything like mine:laugh:)
