So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion (the next from our latest Sequel Section on RtM), and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2:
FREDDY'S REVENGE

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

You know how everyone says that even numbered Star Treks are always better, the opposite is true for Nightmares On Elm Streets. Even now the first one scares me more than I care to admit, part 3 was my favourite story, part 5 is super creepy and part 7 was original with it's real world spin.

However for some reason all of the even numbered ones either go overboard on the goofiness or are just plain bad. I saw part 2 as a kid and I went into it with a lot of apprehension after the first one scared my pants off, and for the first time I realized that being scared is part of the fun, because this one wasn't nearly as much fun.

Possessing the kid was an okay idea but they really didn't do much with it. It quickly turned into a repeat of the original with a guy lead instead of a girl. It is still a heck of a lot better than part 6 but it just didn't blow me away like the odd numbered ones did. That said I am a sucker for 80's teen slasher films and even bad Elm Street films are better than any of today's slasher flicks.

7 out of 10

I gotta agree with some of lensnart's comments. The whole possession angle was cool, but too much of the movie was just plain bad. When I had the set of 1-7, I tended to just skip this one as it struck me as gratuitous.

Final score from me: 5 out of 10. not as good as the original Nightmare, but still better than Star Trek V

Ive gotta say I for the most part agree with lennie as well (which isnt that common with these RtM threads) : ) Interesting take on the reverse Star Trek logic, that the Odd Numbered Nightmare films are good (1 is a Classic, 3 is Great and my second favorite, 7 was interesting (great new direction that didnt really go anywhere new as it went on), and 5 was OK I guess). This second film took Freddy in a new direction, making him appear more in the real world than the dream one, which didnt really get on very well since with 3 they not only went back to the dream world Freddy, but also #2 here was the last of the Truly Evil Freddys (from 3 on it was like he was a satanic game show host) :) Overall the film was OK enough, nothing really special, but it did connect well enough with the first one and like lennie Im a sucker for 80s Horror, so Ill go his route and give this a 7.25, I think.

6/10 -

lets be honest here, this is literally the lamest of the Nightmare movies. Why? Because they tried too hard to reel Freddy in because he's too scary.

Lame.

The story isn't bad. It's actually a scary sequel as opposed to a comedy sequel (like 4 or 6).

The unintentional subtext is great, as always with any Nightmare film. However, due to the lack of any other character reappearing in any later sequels, it's almost unnecessary.

Overall, it's a good sequel, but it is the weakest Nightmare movie.

7.8 out of ten.
