View Full Version : Old mod -> New dial?
Who has done a mod of a figure that wasn't available in any current sets, then, when the figure does come out, you put it on the new dial to make it a "legal" fig?
I did that with Gravity. I don't have pics, but I was using the JL Hourman dial for him originally until the Gravity figure came out in SI.

I have too. I made a James MacDonald Hudson / Guardian mod out of an old Captain Britain figure a long time ago, and I used an E War Machine dial with it. Now that Superrnova's got Guardian, I still use my mod.
I also made an "Iron Spider" mod with a V Spider-Man from Sinister, but when the actual Iron Spider SR came out in Avengers, I did NOT cut it up to add my figure.
I made Miss Martian by planting a repainted Origin Supergirl on Morph's base. Once I get the AA dial, I might use that one instead.

Just fliers like Alan Scott. I might consider risking it with Per Degaton depending on what his new dial and sculpt look like.

I recently moved my Black Costume Spiderman from a custom base to the new Spider-girl base.

I would do that with my "Classic Taskmaster" costume, but I really don't like the new dial. Much happier with it on the old Vet dial.
It seems almost all my mods end up getting made - but I never re-base them (unless I made them on removable flight stands). Now I just have a little more choice if I want to play a friendly game...
I've done that too with a few guys -
Guardian (James Hudson) got a new base in SuperNova.
Strong Guy I had from awhile back got a legal base in Mutants and Monsters.
I also had an Aurora I did way back when Mutant Mayhem came out, but the actual Aurora sculpt was ok, so I use that normally.
I had a Hellfire club Mastermind from awhile back too that got an actual dial in Mutants and Monsters.
Not sure if these count, but I took the figures from the Colossus and Beast from the Danger Room set and stuck them on new dials from Mutants and Monsters as I liked those sculpts better. Same goes for Dr. Strange and Namor dials from Secret Invasion

I've got a Guy Gardner and an Alan Scott that I use on their official dials. I made a Green Goblin and a Mephisto long ago, but my Goblin was nowhere near as awesome as the released one (man but Fantastic Forces had some nice work) and while my Mephisto was decent it doesn't have the same effect as the released one.
I do have to say that I miss the flight stands for this reason. It made it easy to swap out a flying figure for a mod. I bring the real figure in case people objected to me using the mod figure (which has never happened, but it could). Putting a mod on a base without a flight stand would require having a second copy of the figure in case there are objections.
Enh... if they object to me playing a mod I crush one of their figures, punch 'em in the face, and storm out as if I was insulted to the core of my being.
Maybe that's why I play at home so much now... although it's not as cool to storm out of your own house. Your guests tend to lock you out!
