GenConOz 2009 and HeroClix - what do you want to see?

Ian Houlihan has just announced that GenCon Oz 2009 will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Brisbane between the 18th and 20th September 2009.

Keeping in mind that it's a shorter convention this year (three days instead of, what, five?), and that the commercial future of HeroClix is unknown right now (although things look promising lately), what kind of things would you like to see happen for HeroClix at GenConOz?

I'm aware that there's still some bad feelings about how 2008's events were organised, but I hope that in the best of worlds we can move towards a more positive event next year.

You may have already noticed, but there is now a Facebook group and an Event listed for GCOz.

how about instead of a 300 on 300 battle to the death, have some variation to the teams like a 400 point team but only figures with 40 points or less on the team.

But referring to last years GenCon i thought events organized were pretty good

Events are going up this Friday, so we'll know soon whether anything has been organised.

So I guess from the way you're talking James you are going. Maybe we should organise a group trip?

I've committed to running a few sessions of RPGs up there, so definitely yes. I know a few people who are going to deciude whether they want to go based on the events list, which should be online this Friday sometime.

I was planning to go, but now it seems my parents will be in sydney that weekend.

There doesn't seem to be any clix listed for this year - not surprising, as Croftminster don't even have any boosters left, so I assume they're not interested in sending prize support either.

Myself and 3 other players from Canberra are going to brisbane and bringing some teams with us. We'll just setup on a table and start playing. Everyone is welcome to join us if your at gencon

Coolio. I'll definitely bring a team or two with me, then - it's always great to play against a new opponent! Ironically, when we went up to Brisbane last year a lot of my games were against my friends from Sydney! :p

There's nothing "epic" for HeroClix, as far as we know. It depends on whether there are other games or events at the convention that you also want to see. For me, there is - so I'm going regardless of whether there's any HeroClix. Getting in some friendly games will just be a bonus!

If you've bought a multi-day pass, it looks like Thursday is the best time for some casual games. You get to pick up your badge before the rush on Friday, and there should be plenty of free tablespace for bardgames and cardgames. The con orgs have said that they have no problems with it. :)

I'll be getting up to Brisbane on the Wednesday with 2 mates so we'll be there ready to play on Thursday. What builds are people interested in? I was thinking 600 points unrestricted make your own bestest hero team.
For example I like making Avengers teams but don't like the 616 Caps so I use the vet ultimates Cap instead. As long as the Fig is a representation of the Character you can use it on you team. We'll also be bringing some unrestriceted 300 point teams to play with as well

I'm glad I met up with folks on Thursday for an epic game of clix (epic in that it felt like it just would not end... :p). Had a great time. It wouldn't feel like a proper GenCon without some HeroClix!

It's a pity I didn't get a chance to play another game against any of you folks (... in which you probably would have thrashed me in revenge), but hopefully we'll see you in Sydney sometime, maybe this December. :classic:
