I love Fallout 3, and I know some others do to after talking about it in the game threads. So I'm checking interest if anyone would want to escape a new vault and explore a world near the DC area (but not the same map as Fallout 3) that I create using Fallout's RPG system with S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and skills, etc. with some things altered like simplifying combat situations. You'll be able to create your own character and travel my made-up wasteland full of fun stuff like Fallout 3 and make decisions on how to go about the world, and even blow some heads up. I'd probably want 5-10 vault escapees, and it won't start for a while until I hash out all the details, I'm just checking interest for some people to play.

I've made a map and areas already, I have to work on the statistics for all the bad guys, and good guys for that matter. There will be some semblance of quests, I don't know if I will make a main storyline or leave everything optional. Of course there will be Three Dog radio-recapping the news though.

Bio: Nothing is known of the past of the man named Stone, even his name was given to him by techs, who noted his hard face and cold eyes.
A year ago the residents of Vault 101 were shocked to hear a pounding noise on the hidden door of their compound. A vote was taken, and armed men opened the Vault wearing special containment suits.
Outside they found a half starved, irradiated man, drenched head to foot in blood from several individuals, himself included.
With a strong voting block, and keen for information from the outside, the Vault Scientists convinced the council to bring the man in for testing.
Treated like a lab rat for a year, tortured and humiliated, the man they christened Stone never said a word, never screamed, never fought back, but no nurse or doctor could hold his gaze.
On the anniversary of his arrival, Stone killed three doctors and a pair of security guards and escaped. Dislocating his shoulders, he undulated his way through hundreds of meters of air ducts, before opening the Vault door and slipping out.
Horrified Vault citizens found the armory raided, survival gear and rations taken, and a note on the door written in blood.

John Logan was just in it for the weekly paycheck. A solitary man, he did what he had to do to support his simple life-style of video games, comic books, and online gambling. He was content with his basement room at his parent's house. Even well after his parent's died he continued to live in the basement while renting out the rest of the house.
During one of his nightly rounds he had stumbled into an otherwise empty lab and right into the latest vault experiment, knocked unconscious, only to awaken later to...

Ah, I think I get your background now Dax, it's kind of a Fry from Futurama bit is it?
So, so far we have:
A failed science project turned demagogue
A spiv
An escaped murderer
A defrosted loser
If the last person is playing a psychic Dog we've got an 80's sitcom.

Secondly, edit your character with their ages and tag 3 of the following 15 skills (modified slightly from Fallout 3): You can change these at any time before we actually start.
People skills (barter/speech combined) - Charisma
Guns -Perception
Specialty Guns (guns not using bullets aka missile launcher, etc.) -Perception
Energy Weapons -Perception
Explosives -Perception
Locks -Agility
Medicine -Intelligence
Melee -Strength
Repair/Create -Intelligence
Computers -Intelligence
Stealth -Agility
Hand to Hand -Strength
Trapwork (disarming/creating traps) -Agility
Improvised Weapons (You will have a special trait to make a weapon out of seemingly nothing) -Luck
Robotics (deprogramming/creating robots) -Intelligence
Having skills that play off each other may provide synergy bonuses. If you have repair and guns tagged, for example, you may get +5 synergy bonus when you go to repair that gun.

Quick breakdown of SPECIAL:
Strength - damage dealt with melee weapons/hand to hand combat, governs melee and hand to hand skills, determines load you can carry
Perception - chance that you will catch an encounter earlier rather than later - aka someone sneaking up on you or approaching you from a distance, governs most gun skills and how well you can shoot 'em
Endurance - governs your hit points, how long you can go without eating/drinking, and how long you can go without sleep
Charisma - governs People skills, and all interactions with people in the game
Intelligence - governs general knowledge, medicine, repair, computer, and robotics skills
Agility - chance to dodge attacks, governs trap/lock/stealth skills
Luck - chance at getting ambushed in the wasteland, chance at critical attacks, chance at randomly finding weapons/food, governs Improvised weapons

James was a quiet man. Rarely seen, rarely heard. A pleasant fellow, but conversations usually didn't progress beyond small talk. He mostly kept to himself, spending time tinkering with the various guns he had in his possession. Which made it quite the surprise when he became a shift supervisor. Maybe the higher-ups saw something in him the rest of the vault dwellers didn't.

I am going to start sending out final versions of characters. If you see anything weird or completely wrong - tell me, because I probably made a mistake somewhere in all that jumble. Secondary were just so that all your skills that weren't tagged wouldn't suck. They are skills that you are better that than average but not as good as your tags and they were based on what you had high stats in. Weapons will degrade the more you use em, same with armor/clothing if you are attacked...

Ok, since we could get separated at any time, I propose our first order of business be a Swap Meet, to exchange superfluous items that another player may get better use out of.

Very nice to have when ammo is scarce, or if you just plan to do some bludgeoning. I'm a crack shot and a bit weedy so it's of lesser use to me. Dax, maybe good for you as the muscles of the group?

Bio: I grew up in the Vault fascinated by medicine and eventually became a pediatric doctor. Unfortunately the other [male]doctors at my hospital tended to view this with some disdain, referring to my specialization as "woman's work".
They also conspired to keep all the better medicines and equipment under lock and key, claiming it was needed for more important surgeries. In defense, I learned how to pick the locks of many of the medical rooms, stealing back much-needed supplies for my tiny patients.
The hospital administrator tacitly sided with the other surgeons, although he publicly declared that all specialties were equal, and all our supplies should be shared among us. After my hidden stash of medicines and equipment was raided YET AGAIN, I decided to set a few traps to surprise the intruders, and discovered that I actually enjoyed devising cunning snares!
