(As far as phases, they will be split into Morning-Day-Night-Late Night)
Day 1 – Morning
Chaplain Eve, Mr. Allbright, Scrubber, and James sit in a circle around a table with a radio and a flashlight on it. It is an extremely grim day when you know you will die soon, and Allbright has called the men together to try and come up with solutions – while dividing up the very few rations they have left. Allbright opens up a pack of cigarettes, takes one, and passes the pack. He then opens up a rations box to find a lone Twinkie. Obviously disappointed, he breaks in into fifths and passes around the the sorry last supper, saving one for the Nurse, who was taking a nap in her secluded Vault room. They were sure her door was lined with traps, as she had been quite protective of herself since she had become the last female resident left in Vault 207. They all look at the huge Vault door in the room, frightened of what they know they must do: Leave or die here.
Allbright: If it wasn't for that damned freak killing Frank, Sarah, and Mary, we would still be fine! Don't know why we ever let 'em in here....
Scrubber: They shoulda stuck 'em in a chamber like I was for a couple hundred years....
Chaplain Eve: God is still with us even with the unfortunate events of this past year. My father used to tell me what it was like out there – in that Wasteland – the horrors....would you all like to hear a prayer to calm your souls?
James: --silence--
Allbright: Father? More like creator – and shut up with the prayer $#!% already....No food, no power, no women, well, besides Haviland....I don't think God's on our side....(looks at James, who is silently reading something to himself under the dim light of the flashlight) What the heck are you reading about anyways? It better be a way to open that door!
James: (turns around, facing his back to everyone) –silence--
Scrubber: Hey, he's talkin' to ya, boy!
Allbright and Scrubber erupt into a shouting match aimed at James, who refuses to say anything....Chaplain Eve ignores Allbright and goes into prayer....chaos ensues until the loudest crash that any of these poor souls have ever heard in their life knocks them off their feet. Surely the crash awakes the slumbering Nurse Haviland in her room close by.
At first the bright light is dizzying – as none of them have ever seen true sunlight before, but slowly their eyes adjust. Chaplain is thrilled by thinking that his prayer has opened the door and stands to his feet to praise God....a bullet tears through his leg and he falls back to the ground. Wild screams echo the room and three figures dash into the room with equally wild hair, feral markings on their bodies and fearsome spikes lining their shoulders. Still dizzied from the blast – none of our Vault friends have time to react.
The raiders circle the room ready to slit throats and grab loot when a fourth, shadowy figure enters the hole in the wall. The man, covered in blood, runs and lunges at the first wild man and rips his right arm from his body, leaving the man to scream and bleed out. The other two charge him with knives but the creature dodges with skillful agility. He headbutts one, knocking him unconscious and stealing the other's knife with his free hand, cuts the throat of the downed raider while kicking the newly disarmed one in the kneecap. Fearing his life, he runs as fast as he can away from the creature out into the blazing sun. By this time, Chaplain Eve has drawn a gun, and has pointed it at the creature.
Scrubber: It's Stone!
Allbright: Scrubber! Check on Antonia!
Covered in blood once again, there is a stand-off between Stone and the group. He is standing in the doorway, about to run after the last Raider, but he pauses and stares at Allbright. Chaplain has a shot lined up. Scrubber is speechless, and runs to check on Nurse Haviland. James tries to shake off the dizziness and is bleeding from the back of his head after falling. Allbright thinks of the situation...being saved by the one that had doomed them....
Stone: I may have killed those people....but I wasn't the one who cut your power....
You may all post about the situation at hand in an orderly manner. I will end discussion after the story progresses a little bit.
Game info:
Also, you can move faster than 1 square a day. When moving out in the wild, you can move 1, 2, or 4 squares a phase. 4 is running, and will tire you out. 2 is brisk, and will tire you out only slightly. 1 is walking slowly.
Oh and the fives levels of exhaustion/hunger:
Hunger: Starving/Very Hungry/Hungry/Full/Well-fed
Exhaustion: Extremely Tired/Very Tired/Tired/Fine/Well-Rested
Abilities will go up Oblivion style, with things raising the more you use them.
Combat: For every 10 points in a weapon skill, it increases damage done when using that type of weapon by +1. Having 17 in Guns, for example, will give you +1 damage when using them.
Effects of crippled limbs:
Head: -4 Perception, +25% chance your attacks miss
Arm: -2 Strength, chance to drop things you are holding, -1 combat action point
Body: -2 Endurance
Leg: Slower speed, -2 Agility
Called shots: If your enemy is within close range of you, you can call shots instead of just shooting at different modifiers to hit than normal, or you can just take generic shots and hope for the best
Called shot Head: -25% hit chance
Called shot Arm/Leg: -10% hit chance
Called shot Body: +5% hit chance
If a body part is already crippled, calling a shot on it and hitting will give you a +25% critical hit chance
If you are hidden/sneaking and they don't see you, the first hit you make on them is a critical hit
Three critical hits in a row is an automatic kill
During Combat:
You may take a number of combat actions equal to half your agility. If your agility is 8, you can pop off 4 shots with your pistol. Different guns may change this, such as the hunting rifle will take 4 combat action points or other big guns may also take more than 1. Reloading small guns takes 3 combat action points, except for guns with elaborate reloading processes, which may take more.

After checking on the nurse I will also search the bodies of the wild men.
"Can we get the power back on? Who cut the power, Stone?"

01/15/2009, 18:58
Before you can reach the Nurse, she meets you in a corridor. The crash triggered her explosive trap lining her door, blowing the door clear off. You meet up with her, and go back to the main Vault Door room, where the stand off is still taking place.

I'll check the bodies as well, hopfully finding something to repair my leg. After scrounging through the raiders possessions, I too will join in on checking the nurse.
"The lord will watch over us, this flesh wound is just a test of my faith."

The have ragged and dirty clothes, probably not a good idea to use those things as bandages.

Hm, never mind then. Guess I'll have to get healed up first.

I'm new to the whole rpg games too. I guess I'll check on the nurse to see if she can heal up my leg. After that I will chase the runner, peacemaker in hand ready to fire if necessary.
hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 19:39
Anti, you can chase after him, but you will be considered as having a crippled head. It's your choice. You can take it back. He might not wait around until after you guys are healed though. I would like to hear from Allbright and the Nurse, especially if Stone is drawing a weapon. (After this initial chaos unfolds, things will be more structured.)

Sounds like the nurse has stuff to do right off the bat. :speechles
Given that we're in a nice big group, I can help motivate the nurse as she tends your wounds. My throat gets sore after a lot of jawboning, though, so it'll be around 24 hours before I get motivated to motivate again.

01/15/2009, 20:56
I was more looking for a response since you have a gun pointed at Stone, and he just drew a weapon.
d_knight7
01/15/2009, 21:07
Well I contemptuously turned my back to him as I drew, so I obviously wasn't threatening him.
If he wants to try shooting me in the back and play a game of who falls down first he's certainly welcome though
hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 21:13
Well it's good to check if he read the opening because he said nothing about lowering his gun from your face. Anyways, so you take a shot?

Where in the opening does someone have a gun in someone's face? I'm lost.
If someone'll just quote me the relevant bit I'll work from there.
hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 21:25
Wow, I meant to say Chaplain. He has a shot lined up on Stone. It has to do with the whole killing people and leaving thing that they prolly don't like you Stone.

For anybody new to RPGs: It's part choose-your-own-adventure, part play.
The GM or game master creates the setting and all the NPCs (non-player characters) in "his" story.
You create the actions (and some of the narrative) for your character as well as all the dialogue your character speaks.
You might have noticed that d_knight7 and I have used quotation marks "" around the parts our characters speak (perhaps we should just use the quote function instead....might be fun). Those are things our characters are actually speaking to the group. The rest of what we write is generally the actions our characters take or some other narrative we may want the rest of you to know.
Any other thoughts or actions should be PMed to the appropriate party...especially if you want it to remain secret...like the knife I now have pointed at d_knight7's kidneys...j/k;).
Hellfire117
01/15/2009, 21:51
So we PM sneaky stuff to the GM? I'm just winging it, cuz I got no idea how these work. So far it seems pretty straight forward though.

OOC example:
My hand flashes out and grabs I.C. Weiner's wrist, breaking it in 2 places and removing the knife.
"Little boys shouldn't play with sharp things"
----------------
OOC stands for Out Of Character, and signals that your post is an out of game question or statement. This stops people from becoming confused, or the GM thinking you're doing an action.
The text block following it describes an action, in this case asserting my macho authority over a lesser male, much like a powerful alpha male Lion.
The quotation marks show that my character is speaking, in this case being a damned sexy and suave bad-###.
Hellfire117
01/15/2009, 22:01
Ok. Let's get back to the story. Last thing was me lowering my gun and attempting to call a meeting to establish a gameplan.

[OOC] Holy HELL this game moves fast! I may not be able to keep up with the pace if you're planning on playing this quickly (I have a very demanding job with a 60 mile commute). If the pace is going to be this rapid I may have to bow out, but I'll keep playing as long as I can until you can find a medic to replace me, if you'd like. If the game settles down to where I could do a few posts a day, that would be awesome!
It's my fault really, for thinking it'd be a game like SUPERPOWER where everyone makes a move via PM. No worries, like I said, I'll try my best and feel free to boot me :)
On to the game now:
Item 1)
Note on bandaging vs. stimpaks: bandages will last half a day on average and stimpaks auto heal a crippled area. How do bandages work? If they only last 1/2 day, does that mean they're not actually healing the wounds? Just need clarification on that.
Item 2)
I can see there're going to be repercussions playing a Doctor when my login name is Nurse :D Y'all managed to call me Nurse repeatedly throughout this thread and I didn't spend eight years in medical school to be insulted like that! ;)
Hellfire117
01/15/2009, 22:25
OOC: We should probably slow it down a little bit. I'm all free tonight, but I'm usually working too. Maybe a couple (scenes) a day at a set time?
NurseFoxfire
01/15/2009, 22:27
I run into the room carrying my medical bag.
"Damnit, what's going on here?!"
I notice two bleeding men, one with a head wound that I start to treat immediately.
darius_dax1
01/15/2009, 22:33
I was going to suggest that we are only allowed 3 (or so) posts each session and the session doesn't end until everyone gets a post. I think most of what went on in the thread has been chattering. It's still pretty much Act 1, Scene 1.
Hellfire117
01/15/2009, 22:37
"Nurse please help me next, my leg has suffered a nasty wound."
hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 23:15
After this, it will be a lot slower. I just chose to open this way. Are you wrapping his head up or using a stimpak on it?
hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 23:21
It's gonna get traditional, with morning/day/night/late night phases and actions being handed in and stuff like that. If want to tell me what you use on the head and what you use on the leg we can get done with this morning, as this was just a warm-up.
NurseFoxfire
01/15/2009, 23:31

Could you clarify for me how a bandage works? I'm confused about the half-day healing you described it having
Hellfire117

hellskingpin
01/15/2009, 23:44
It will take away the negative effects of a crippled limb for half a day. Like, if your left leg is crippled as Chaplain's is, it affects his ability to walk and his agility. A bandage will hold the blood loss for a while - it might even last longer than 1/2 day.
d_knight7

OOC: Questions from the Doc (and me too, this all seems pretty confusing)
I understand the short-term affect of it stopping blood loss, but...
How does a limb get healed permanently if not by a doctor using bandages?
How do you know that it's a crippled limb and not just health lost?
hellskingpin
01/16/2009, 00:01
I'll always tell you if one of your limbs gets crippled in a fight. Reaching Well-rested for your exhaustion level and stimpaks heal crippled limbs (for now, this will change as ones medical skills increase!)
hellskingpin

OOC:
Great, thanks for the explanation.
The Doc will bandage the head wound, then the leg wound if she has time.
hellskingpin
01/16/2009, 00:13
She has time. Let's structure this thing.
Day 1-Morning has ended
Both James's head and Chaplain's leg are considered not crippled.
Stone shoots 8 shots, the second one skims his head, the third takes a piece of his head off. But he escapes down the rocky hill.
Ok in case you all want to follow along, the map I made is 25 squares wide x 30 squares longs(letters going wide numbers going long :). You are starting at square Y11. During each phase you can move one square diagonally, vertically, or horizontally. Since you are all together, you may discuss openly. You may venture out or hang around the vault for a while for supplies/clues, but beware, they may be back. If you have any specific things you want to do during Day 1-Day, pm me them. I am going to send you all updated char sheets also.

Day 1- Mid-Day
They all split up after orders from Stone, and Allbright was undecided on what to do. He felt weird taking orders from someone who just killed some of his friends, and he felt ashamed not taking any type of leadership when the situation had gotten crazy before. He looked to James, who was on watch duty, holding a pistol to the outside.

Stone returns, wearing a nice clean Security outfit.
"This goes against my better instincts, especially considering you feebs stood by and let your pals use me as a science project, but I'd like this little family to start off on an honest foot.
There's a temptation to horde things for ourselves and be sneaky, but that's a sickness that will lead to disaster down the line. If I was smart I'd take what I have and the loot from those Raiders and hightail it, but having someone to take a watch might be good for a change.
So..."
Stone empties out 3 security helmets, 3 batons, a bloody Vault suit and a package of 10mm bullets on to the floor.
"Now, what's the haul from the Raiders and the rest of this crummy joint?"

If we can scrounge all the spare parts, however, I should be able get it up and running."

We could probably break down some of the stuff into the kind of bits I'd need -- if someone wants to spend some time either hacking at scrap or looking around for more manageable bits.

"Well the Vault door is like a bank Vault door, I'm not Superman. If we can get a sturdy internal door off that might be a great plan though!
How about it guys? Can we get me a bullet proof door?
Actually, the Doc's door was blown off its hinges, right? If it's still sound and we can strap me up, would that work?"

According to blueprints there are two above the overseer's command desk, hanging from the ceiling, spaced not a lot apart.
OOC: So as BA as a phalanx would look (and I agree it would lol), I should be able to use the Doc's door as a shield to get under the guns and safely turn them off, yes?
It has the advantage that the one door is already off. These doors would probably be very difficult to remove. :OOC

Sounds like a good idea. My only question is to what would be a better strategy: parting it for the robot, or reprogramming it? What are we going to use for the power source?
d_knight7
01/17/2009, 22:53
"As I see it, the turrets have a ton of potential uses.
Get control of them, and we can use the back rooms for safe resting with a sentry that doesn't sleep.
Then if we abandon the Vault we either try and mount the weapons on the robot, or break them down for scrap and ammo."
Hellfire117
01/17/2009, 23:01
I suggest either mounting them on the robot, or a stronger character carrying it like a minigun

01/17/2009, 23:19
Even one of those things would be WAY too heavy for the robot. OOC: Phalanx does sound really BA. I actually forgot about the Doc's door being blown off, good thinking.
Do you have some final actions for me?
d_knight7
01/18/2009, 01:52
OOC: Door is too heavy, what about a table? It should be long enough, but light enough to carry a short distance with a harness. Plus you said most everything in the Vault is too tough for scrap, so it should hold up against small caliber rounds for awhile, right? If that's doable...
I go in to the control room, doing my best Captain America impression, turn off the guns, and check out the rooms beyond.
Allbright comes in after I've disabled the guns, and checks out the control room, hopefully pulling up useful information on the computer.
Logan works on salvaging scrap and making bobby pins (remember the cutlery here), so the Doc can open her door later on.
Eve keeps watch.
The Doc goes through the personnel quarters looking for anything useful, including bobby pins and clean sheets for bandages.
Dunleaven gets some rest and heals up. :OOC

"The Doc has a medbay door she needs to open that can't be forced, and has no lock to shoot off. There might be scrap out there, but medical supplies are hard to find, and she needs bobby pins.

I agree that a morning nap would leave you useless for the rest of the day. So I say we split up into two groups. Stone, Allbright, and me follow the raider's blood. Eve, Logan, and Doc go in another direction. (I think that's two even groups.) That way we can cover more ground, get more supplies, and meet back at the vault and the end of the day to determine which way we'll go tomorrow. If we do this, we'll need to carry the pile of supplies.
This leaves the Vault unprotected though. I don't see anything wrong with this, but maybe there's something I haven't thought of.
Course, this changes if we do need to find/cut the outside link, which in that case I say Eve and I follow the trail of the raiders, while Stone takes a morning nap, then spends the rest of the day guarding Allbright/Logan while they're outside, since they probably could be taken by surprise since they're focused on looking for the link. Doc could guard you during your morning nap, but then perhaps could search rooms again for supplies? I don't think we've looked at the commons room yet. Or maybe she comes with us, and Stone just guards Allbright/Logan for the whole day? Or does Allbright/Logan even need a guard?

Somebody would have to carry the robot, one person can carry it. You would have to look around to see if there is anything you can cut to stop the override, but that doesn't mean there is something. Also, you can move faster than 1 square a day. (This is the type of stuff I will edit onto the first page.) When moving out in the wild, you can move 1, 2, or 4 squares a phase. 4 is running, and will tire you out. 2 is brisk, and will tire you out only slightly. 1 is walking slowly.
