This Week Steve and Gudda talk about their top five Superman picks. Steve ran Galactus in the "Traitor Among Us" Scenario. A little about UpperDeck and... ...oh yeah the ton of Dark Reign Tie-ins that came out this week!

You shouldn't have allowed pogs either in the game, or to be pulled as traitors. I ran this scenario and didn't allow any cardboard.
KC CR at 238 is capable of 19 clicks on a solid 400 point team you can't have a best ever list without him that's beyond Galactus level damage that's nearly a one hit kill on the 600 point version of FING FANG FOOM.

Oh well. It's just a scenario and there are no character restrictions. It's just a fun game and everyone did have fun I believe. But I could be wrong. Both players I had played at the event have commented in the thread.

He didn't make it to my list because of his accessibility.
I haven't listened to the episode yet but I thought I'd post my best Superman figures
1. Man of Steel : this is the best representation so far. He is comic accurate and fight capable. You need to add protected on him in case he gets hit on the first click. I would also add the Armored feat (the one that adds plus 2 to defense when you have 2 tokens) so that the second click you can have a 20 defense. I gets you to push off defend as well to gain the extra defense.
2. KC Superman (Unleashed): A great story and a great dial. He was so feared back in the day and still is. I thought the charge up front was appropriate b/c Supes usually gets up close to start. He likes to talk things out a bit. I think fortitude is necessary for him. And the 13 Attack is so comforting for that first strike attack. No one is safe. He does need the Supes TA.
3. Young Superman: 100 points of playable goodness. Very effecient and again the charge upfront seems appropriate. Thank God for the 12 movement so his charge range is greater.
4. KC Superman (Crisis): doesn't make it higher beacause he seems cheesy to play. So much damage potential in a 238 point figure.
5. Bat Ally Supes: The stealth is a bit cheesy but at least he can't see stealth figures. He lacks so move and attack abilities that bring him down to Earth a bit.
I don't like the 300 plus point Supes or the newer Supes with "Self Sacrifice"

yeah that would be cool on both counts.
The Superman with Batman T.A. is "New Guy Night" Superman he was given out to the new person and the player they came with. Unless the judge was a complete "tool" everyone who could attend got a New Guy Night prize because they came twenty-five per box.

First off the old KC UNL Superman was one of the biggest hunks of Blue Cheese EVER TK + HSS + Meteorite pretty much meant an instant kill and once you slapped TRICK SHOT and Fortitude on him he ripped through teams like butter. UNL KC was a single minded engine of destruction but guess what engines eventually get replaced.
KC CR doesn't have Ranged Combat Expert but with five base damage he doesn't need it. What he does have is Charge, Flurry, the capacity to carry two standard objects and give the target a token when he rolls doubles. He's under costed no doubt about it but you can't list that as a reason for his cheese factor. If he was the same point value as UNL KC would you list him as number 1 but because he's under costed you hold it against him I just don't understand that line of thought. Normally when a beast like him is under costed people jump for joy about how efficient he is for his points. That's why I love him so much you can stick him on a team and not break the bank even on a three hundred point team you can put Fortitude on him with Vet. Mandroid armor and whip him around a battle field. Another punch with Kryptonite gloves to UNL KC is the last I checked YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH HIM.

I know that you feel you are the king and queen of the 'realms.
However to bag on folks who are honestly trying to keep your little kingdom alive in our own little way in the HCFL and other PbP leagues is uncalled for.
I support everyone still fighting the good fight out here and I don't understand how you think you are helping when you bash fellow players.
Well done.
There is a reason I only listened to a single one of your podcasts.

just a point of note, the new Crisis KC Superman is capable of KOing the 600 pt Galactus (either) in one turn. Make a future theme with Dream Girl, Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and a few others. Basically, you need to roll something like 5 6's, with 6 bits of probability control. Compel and Monster Hunter are involved as well.

guess you picked the wrong one to listen to.
We aren't all movie stars and such to get in the news.
I have nothing against the players on the HCFL or the PbP leagues. There are just certain ways things are done and people posting news weren't following. It was all fixed in a day. No Harm no Fowl. But if anyone took offense then that is on them. I am one of the nicest/generous Heroclix players around.
Ask anyone who has met me.
To call us a king and Queen. Well that is an infraction.

I've never met you, but boasting that you're a nice, generous guy and in the same breath telling folks that you've offended that "it is on them," well, let's just say your actions ring more true than your words.
The HCFL has nearly 50 active participants in it, and they're a nice, closeknit group of people who play together, share events in our lives with each other, help cheer each other up through layoffs and rough times in life, and congratulate each other for big events such as births and new jobs.
In other words, we're the kind of players you'd like to see frequent your venue, and help populate your forum boards. Don't reinforce the negative stereotypes of comic book denizens by acting like this.

To call what we do on here lame. To make sure to point out that it is not a venue. Those are things that we could take offense to. It is not all on us. Sorry.
To point out my job has no bearing on my comments. To make it seem at all like I was trying to but into your "News" column is ridiculous. What did mentioning the words "movie star" buy you?
We in the league are trying to make sure that people are aware that there are other options to play this wonderful game. To belittle it is completely against the spirit of keeping the game alive.
The point of that article was really to invite those who have a problem playing in real life as venues are closing down everywhere. We, in the league, have built Map Functions, Dice Rollers, Dial Emulators, all to forward the game and keep it going. The League has been joined by a ton of players and there is always room for more.
We would love to spread the word. Even though you don't agree that we are a real venue, as in a brick and mortar store, we are a VIRTUAL VENUE. You may have the luxury of having a group of friends that play all together and that may give you a sense of entitlement and allow you to undermine us, but it does not.
You may have the luxury of playing with those friends. We have international players, 2 of whom are from Portugal, who have NO OTHER place to play. Since you decided to mention my career, YES, I am on the road constantly and play from my hotel room. I barely ever have a chance to play. Period. There are teachers, engineers, pastors, actors, 9 to 5'ers, and students in our league. Walks of all life.
I hope anyone who reads this post will consider joining us in our league. We are a community and a venue of friends and players who are just hoping to bring in more players who have nowhere else to play. We accept everyone with open arms. We don't have any issues with flame wars or belittlement.
So, come on in, there is plenty of room.
I will take the warning, as I understand I broke a rule. I feel the reaction is hypocritical, though. And I stand by my comments and point regardless of the name calling, which was a mistake.
HCFL, out.

I'm sorry, I'm going to express my feelings of this as polite as possible. My offense to the matter was the expression that it was 'written poorly' and 'isn't -really- a venue, despite that the people involved believe it is'.
Just like Iceman's 'King and Queen' comment offended you, I see no difference in the snarky comment you gave to Iceman just now about his chosen profession, nor the 'critiques' about Glen Quagmire's and I's writing ability.
Whether or now you're a 'nice' guy, your words were still offensive to a number of people here on the Realms. Neither I, nor Iceman intended to offend. We are similarly reputable in our friendliness and ability to be nice.
Whether or not you agree with this, the point remains the same. We felt offended by your words, you felt offended by ours (in response to yours). We get infractions. You guys still stand tall.

A couple more thoughts I would like to share.
I have donated to this website for years. I love this place. I have NEVER received a single warning. Ever. This is my first one. I have never been put in a place where I responded defensively and in a manner that could offend. This is the first time.
You mentioned my career. At every moment that I have had an opportunity to promote this website and this game, I have. And because of my job, I have had a great number of opportunities. I have given a lot to this site and to this game.
To reprimand me, with no form of apology, which I think is deserved, is unfortunate. I would hope you could see the side of those you have offended and respond in kind.
I apologize for the name calling. I do NOT apologize for the statements and the reasoning.

Just going to quote the 'cast really quick:
on PbP: 'That's cool if they want to do that, I just think it's weird.'
on the article: 'it just reads weird. It's a weird read.'
These are the words that offended us.

there was a time when I could go to a venue and play heroclix 7 days a week. but with Wizkids closing up shop, the economic conditions and family gatherings I am lucky if I can play in real life once a month.
if it wasn't for HCFL I would have left HCRealms, and Heroclix all together. I understand that there are pockets of people that are lucky enough to play in real life, no problem, but for the rest of us, HCFL is a great way to play a great game and continue to support it while waiting for its return.
for you to dismiss it just because you don't understand it, don't care for PbP games just shows what kind of person you are. if you were to play a game or at least talk to a few of the players you would see how great this league is and you would notice that this group of players are as close as any RL venue.
Anyone hear what the Top 5 for the next Clixcast was going to be?
Someone in Marvel I guess.
Wolverine?
I'm hoping Ironman actually.
How the heck did this all spin out of control. First off ... I call King... your so the queen steve.
I think the problem stems from more or less from improper postings (how its supposed to work , i have know idea ..) I believe the "ill will " that was expressed toward the Fantasy league was "ill will" toward the posting of the topic as News, on a day that other things where supposed to remain at the top of the news page .
Frankly that kind of stuff i could give two carps about.
I also dont care about the Fantasy leagues ... or play by post leagues... but i dont hate them .. I think anyone playing games any way you can is cool.
I dont think we ever told people to not play in them .. And i believe we where supposed to talk to one of the Designers of The Independants set to help promote it ....

If i called it lame ( and i might have ... i just ramble on) Im sorry. I love feed back both negative , and postive .. I have zero vested interest in the site but i do apprecieate your listening to the cast. I think I even said i wish we could have you on the cast (phat chance of that happening now , good move STEVE :classic:) I really didnt even mind the King and Queen remark .. kind of funny.
Since I am one half of this Royal duo , please let me extend the olive branch. If you would like to send me anything to read on the Cast involving the HCFL , updates , standings .. news .. info on how to sign up , i wouldnt mind at all ... Promoting the game is good .. besides we need to fill an hour and as im sure you can tell we are pretty rank amatures.
On a side note ... Im such a mark and fanboy ... I think that being anything other than a shlub working at a furniture store is bad ### , so congrats on the Career ( yeah where using code words now.)

I like them but I just don't agree on not including KC CR Superman simply because he's rarer and given how long ago Unleashed was I'd say UNL KC SUPERMAN is even rarer than his updated counterpart.

I do believe you have the KC Unl mistaken with the Vet Icons Supes. The KC Unl is the most accurate Supes as he doesn't start to use HSS til later in a battle, as stated in a previous post.
But yeah, the Vet Icons was the one to be feared and almost solely brought about the change to HSS.

Here's how it went down with my previous post. Your Infraction is getting reversed...I admit and apologize I was hasty in giving it. I came home for a lunch break, work was crappy that's why I came home for break and I was checking the posts saw it and acted very irrationally. I was like "He's calling us g@y!"
My opinion means very little to our listeners. So you shouldn't take it to heart or that you will lose players because of it. People listen to the podcast for Gudda not me.
All in all it comes down to my opinion on PBP that you didn't really like. Sorry, it was just my opinion. I doubt it will keep anyone from checking it out. If anything it will get more people checking it out.
What sparked this in the podcast was on Monday a post got posted and then moved and then I moved it back Tues on Play By Post Tournaments written by Glen. I was venting my frustrations in the wrong "medium" I should have just sat on it, instead I tell Gudda stuff and it just got sopken in the podcast. We are trying to get everything in line on the realms again as far as how news gets posted. Everything used to be on a schedule and lately as more contributors are contributing again they just post stuff at random. Don't get me wrong, it's great they want to contribute, but there has always been a system in place. Part of this could be that AZS has been a little MIA here and there on the Realms which is fine, but there was going to be another post later this week on kinda the same subject but only different. Kinda hard to get into without going into detail. But the more I think about it the more these two posts should have been combined into one article called something like "Life after Venue". And it would have made a great article with good debates and information on playing heroclix from home alone. But now, that's shot.
We are working on getting the Contributors on a schedule that works and doesn't clash with what everyone has going on. This has been my main frustration.
Again sorry if I offended you or any of the people you play with. I really am a good guy. The shot at your job was just my anger over the King and Queen shot. I think it's great your out there living your dream (maybe not sure if it's your dream or not). I think it's great I am doing all I can to try too keep things moving on the Realms and some other people feel the same...I take the site very personal, I have a lot time and passion invested in it. I'm not the King or Queen, I just care that everyone gets to say their say without "talking" over someone else saying their thing.
Again my sincere apologizes to all who may have taken offense.

I do appreciate the apologies. I think the only thing in the air (for me) is that Iceman got 'warned' when you kinda did the same thing, and gave out a shot in response. (No offense is meant by this, just expressing my opinion).
I'd be happy to be involved with any articles written about 'Life After Venues'. (i'd be even happy to help Glenn rewrite the article, if you felt that was necessary). The main points we tried to make in our article were:
- Showing the Realms a very popular aspect of the site, that most probably haven't seen, and an introduction to said aspect.
- And to be honest, for us, it is a venue. It's 40+ players, who compete on a constant basis, preforming scenarios and the like. Many players in the League have absolutely no other outlets to play clix in a non virtual venue, and this is their only avenue to even play clix.
Again, thanks for the apologies :)

Ya got that one right!
eh, everyone has bad days. Overeaction on on the casts part, or on Scott's part or both is really all this was. I enjoy the casts and I enjoy PbP, I respect Gudda and Drew, and Iceman and Vagrant for what they do to promote the game and keep it intresting which is way more than I have the ability to.
I was taken by the comments myself, not because you don;t like the league because everyone has a valid opinion, but in knowing how much hard work people have put into creating this league and keeping it running on a day to day basis, it just seemed like a slap in the face to those guys who take time out of their day to keep players playing, but I also knew that you guys weren;t really like that normally so I'm glad to hear outside influences were a part of it.
So no more name calling or bickering or whatever that I know no one really wants to be doing anyway and everyone just focus on the game. Unless any of you is secretly Joey Q, in which case burn in hades.
Also I would have old school KC Supes in my top. I can;t even count the number of times I crushed with him. Even with lame KC Batman at his side.
its supposed to be wolverine .. wich is steves guy... i think i would rather it be Iron man ... and i think there are enough of them to do it ... we will see.
Since next Clixcast is Wolverine may I make a suggestion.
The one after that should be Iron man. No need to go back to DC. Wizkids put out so many more sets of Marvel. You would be following the tradition of set releases.
Then you guys can move on to doing other Top 5 lists.
Team abilities, powers, feats, etc...

I haven't listened to the episode yet but I thought I'd post my best Superman figures
1. Man of Steel : this is the best representation so far.
2. KC Superman (Unleashed): A great story and a great dial.
3. Young Superman: 100 points of playable goodness.
Since I collect Superman Clix...I'm right there with you on your list up to this point...great job...I'd change to...
4. Darkseid Superman from Cosmic Justice...the amount of PAIN I have inflicted over the years with that fig...
5. Personally...I love the 317 point Superman from Crisis...I KNOW he's ridiculously powerful, but he's also how I always thought Superman should be for power and ability. I almost never get to play him though as my son cals him the "Deal Breaker Superman" and refuses to play against him (he's more afraid of Superman than the Spectre)
Honorable Mention: Veteran Superman from Icons - served me well over the years - especially w/the JLA.
Since it looks like you two can take a little criticism:
1) Bringing "as a force" Galactus to any event (short of "Galactus-Only" or "swap forces" events) is being a jerk. Any rationale is weak, and I'd like to point out that if this had been a regular tiered event with rounds, unless you lost control of Galactus more rounds than you didn't...it would still be very unlikely that you would lose the event.
2) Re: JL046 Superman: "Free Move" HSS would be next-to-useless on a 200+ point figure...how likely is it that in that game you are going to need extra actions?
I've played that Superman, but the back half of the dial (w/ Self-Sacrifice) is a terrible power for this figure. IF you happen to have another figure that your opponent wants to hit INSTEAD of Superman, you can take the damage...but the only way I'd feel good about using that power would be if it offered either a damage reducer (since aside from Defense, Superman is getting worse) or if it was also Willpower...so that Superman could risk doing something on his back-half. His powers other than the HSS (CCE, FB, EE) don't necessarily lend themselves to use if he's adjacent to a friendly figure (that isn't getting KO-ed).
3) It struck me as being a little defensive/territorial when "Typhon bumped you off the font page" ;)

1) yeah I know what you mean, but most at the event have shown up with others like Anti-Monitor and such. It wasn't for a prize or anything, just a friendly event.
3) nah, not defensive, but when you get several news posts, monday maps/then Typhons/then PBP post news fills up to fast without giving people time to read. It is all settling itself out. Monday Maps helps pay the costs of HCRealms. Typhon can bump anyone-being the owner of the site ^_^! I'm his business partner on Grid Reality and we talk quite regularly.
Yeah we can take criticism.

Well, with all the criticism going around, I think someone should say this:
Great job clixcast guys. I love what you do, and I've listened to several of your podcasts. I enjoy your commentary on comic books and your discussion of different pieces. Don't let everyone make you feel bad. The cool thing about typing out what you're trying to say is that you have a delete button so you can carefully choose what you say. On a podcast, you just ramble on and say things you don't really mean sometimes like people do in regular life. It doesn't mean they're not mistakes, but it also means they're only mistakes. All the situation called for was an apology and you guys delivered. I hope this stuff doesn't discourage you from making future podcasts.
I love what the fantasy leagues do too. It's a really cool idea and I've picked up a lot of tips on how to play better by reading matches between different players on the site. So great job to you guys too.
Anyway, that's all. Everybody love everybody!

I have an equally low opinion of players who bring such figures to "as a force" events. There are definite tiers of competitive builds, and Galactus (and other figures, like chase Superman figures) don't strike me as "friendly".
Locally, we learned (when I brought Galactus for a scenario) that unless the players know in advance (when they build their force) that they are going to be facing one of the monsters, players will be discouraged.
I'm proud of my JSA's victory against Starro in the foolish 600-point DC-Only restricted AP event (during the Crisis release?)...but that was only possible because of planning with a BFC, map-choice and an unplanned crit-hit. I never would have been able to beat TWO Starro teams.

Haha, yes! There was a guy at my old venue who thought I had encyclopedic knowledge of the rules. I said, 'well, no, not really, I just watch 20 games a month, all with random BFC and maps, with almost every figure you could dream of. Plus, I pay attention.'
It's great that you check out the league! Ever think about joining? :)

Are you repeating yourself? You already stated how you felt about Galactus at an event? The two guys I played had no trouble with him being there. They are regulars and both of them used to be the judges for this area.
Matter of fact it offered them more of a challenge. And since it was a 3 way battle they ganged up on the big guy of course. Which is no big deal. So my 600pt. Galactus basically took down 1400pts of Clix. So actually the event was a little more fair/even then it seemed. Also Brett had about 4-5 probability controls on his team. He just couldn't hit'em for some reason. If he would have, he probably could have taken Galactus down.
It was a fun 2 hour game, everyone had fun. End of story. I'm getting the impression that you think I take him everywhere I go like he's my buddy. I haven't taken him out of the box in like 2 years. I wanted to give him a run again.
Your talking to the same guy who likes to run Doom/PowerPack or Nick Fury/PowerPack teams, so believe me the guys down there have plenty of opp. to try and toast me.

You shouldn't impose your own imaginations onto another person; I think I've been pretty clear that "as a force" I don't think the big guy really has a role in "for fun", regularly scheduled events...no matter how long he's sat in a box.
Occasionally I read about (or have played with someone) who says "I haven't played with Galactus/Spectre in years, how about we schedule a game with it?"...but more often than not a player has shown up for a 600 point game with such a figure and rationalizes it as "I never get to play it."
At the risk of repeating myself (from many years ago) I see three essential problems with Galactus "as a force" in regular games: (1) His raw stats (including the multi-attack) are simply in another class of figure outside of 99% of other Heroclix pieces. (2) His long list of immunities to other powers (and game effects like tie-up, blocking terrain, etc.) make it HIGHLY unlikely that an opponent if going to get any use out of powers/abilities on figures that they actually had to pay points to field. (3) You can do HUGE amounts of damage to him (defeating two dials even!) and score ZERO points.
I think it is possible to have fun (and even make it competitive) to play regular teams against the big guys without using the "scenarios"...despite the fact that this event became a three-for-all, you brought a 600-point Galactus to what was expected to be a 700(?) point scenario, multi-round event.
The worst part IMO, is that for the advertised event (with multi-rounds)...if you had lost control of Galactus to the scenario you would only have lost ~200 points to that opponent (your pogs and whatever figure you took...if you chose to reveal it!) whereas every round you kept control of Galactus you could score approximately 700 points (by never revealing your traitor). Bringing the 600-point guy is a pretty clear attempt to hijack the scenario.
I'm glad you guys had fun (and 2-on-1 with double points against Galactus would be a fairer fight, IMO), but you probably would have had as much fun by actually playing two rounds each of the scenario against a non-Galactus/Spectre/Starro team.

We had special rules for when you brought Galactus "as a force" at my venue when "House Rules" were still allowed. Toned him down a little bit and made it even, everyone knew the deal and he was played, as well as the Spectre, a few times.
Do you recall what house rules you used?
The times I've played him ("as a force", but against multiple players) I've used:
1) The number of Galactus' dials are used equal to or less than the sum of the opposing player's forces. Galactus goes last.
2) Each player can use an extra die on their attack rolls (3d6 instead of 2d6), up to three times for each of their turns. The original "ultimate nullifier" as it were.
First off Thank you ManOfCopper89 for the kind words .. Dont think anything will stop me from casting.
As to Galactus as a force .. I dont own one , but i dont care if someone brings one to a competative event. If the format allows for it its just somthing you have to consider during team building ... I have fought a couple of collosals in my day and I dont fear any of them ... BFC's are the great equalizer .. (power dampening feild for the win .. and a theme team to stop Ordinary Day ... )

Power Dampening Field is probably not the best BFC to play against Galactus (at 600-points starts w/Multi-Attack with 12-range Psychic Blast on offense, close to 20 clicks with damage reducers). Shrunk/Disbanded would be my choice.

Actually, yes. I have sent you a PM with some questions.
