You know the drill, by this point.

I'm thinking of a fictional character.

Captain Beyond

Is it human?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 00:12
Yes.

(Good thing I didn't go with my other idea, or else that would've been somewhat more of a pain in the ### to answer!)

St-Dumas

Is it a male?

Did it originate in a comic book?

Does it have extrahuman abilities?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 00:23
Yes, no, and no. Four down, sixteen to go.

St-Dumas
07/08/2009, 00:29
Did he originate in a film?

Is he a villain?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 00:31
No, and no. Six down, fourteen to go.

Captain Beyond
07/08/2009, 02:15
Is he a well known character?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 11:05
Is he a well known character?

I don't think so, at least not with most of today's crowd.

St-Dumas
07/08/2009, 14:53
Did he originate from TV show?

Has he originated in the past ten years?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:01
No, and no, and I'm throwing out the "well known" question because of it's extreme subjectivity. Twelve to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:29
Did he originate in literature or prose fiction?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:34
Yes. Eleven to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:40
Were stories in which he appeared originally published in the 20th Century?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:41
Yes. Halfway there.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:42
Were these stories originally published prior to World War 2?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:44
No. 9 to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:46
Does this character appear in Science Fiction or Fantasy stories?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:47
Does this character appear in Science Fiction or Fantasy stories?

Nope. Eight to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:48
Does this character appear in Mystery or Detective stories?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:50
Nope, seven to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:51
Is this character known from a single appearance in a story or novel (as opposed to being in a series of novels/stories?).

The Vision
07/08/2009, 15:55
Is this character a fictional spy?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 15:56
Kal: Yes. Six to go. This is gonna be cutting it kinda close, I think.

The Vision: No, five to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 15:58
Okay, so he's a human non-villianous male who has appeared in a single work of prose published after the start of World War 2.

Is the character a lawyer?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 16:06
No. Four to go. Need me to fabricate some sort of hint?

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 16:08
Is the author of the story in which this character appeared still alive?

And, yes, I think we might need a hint.

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 16:22
No, he is not.

Let's see...hints hints...

"No, I wasn't played by Richard Chamberlain! You're thinking of the barbarian!"

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 16:23
Is the character from Shogun?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 16:27
Is the character from Shogun?

Yes. Did the hint make that too easy?

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 16:29
Yes. Did the hint make that too easy?

It probably did.

Is it John Blackthorne?

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 16:31
It probably did.

Is it John Blackthorne?

NOT Richard Chamberlain. You fail hint reading forever.

Two to go.

Kalel21
07/08/2009, 16:33
Is it the guy Toshiro Mifune played? Toranaga or something like that.

JKLantern
07/08/2009, 16:36
Is it the guy Toshiro Mifune played? Toranaga or something like that.

DING DING DING! The character is Yoshi Toranaga, fictional analogue to real life feudal Japanese Daimyo Tokugawa Ieyasu, who through a mix of battlefield prowess, rat bastardry, luck, and noble heritage ends up as the Shogun, de facto ruler of Japan. The Tokugawa Shogunate lasts until the 1800s, with the Meiji Restoration. Things go awry from there.

Tell 'em what they've won, Johnny!

I wouldn't have gotten it without the hint, though.

Ya know, I think these 20 questions have been too wide-ranging recently, because the person running the game ALWAYS has to give hints. I think they should always start out with something like "I'm thinking of a comic book character" or "literary character" or "film character" or whatever.

That might work better.

I was really waiting for someone to ask one of the weapon questions...

I take my daughter to Chicago and I end up missing the whole thing. Oh well, I never read Shogun so I was out of luck anyway.
