=>Hunt rust monster.

You don't remember there being such thing as a Rust Monster. At least, there wasn't one in your world. At least, not one that you've run into or heard about.

However, you suddenly realize that your entire party has gone missing. The only one you have heard from is Romack, and he's speaking through your WAR AXE.

And outside of the unconscious guys upstairs, and the one lying on the roof of that metallic object, pleading for help, you haven't seen or heard anyone.

And outside of the building you just fell from, you don't see any other buildings for miles around.

Well, except one. But it's rather far away.

=> Check inventory.

You have a Heward's Handy Haversack. You don't really remember what's in there.

=> Check surroundings.

You are standing in a grassy plain. It is inhabited by a few trees and rocks. There are some strange metal contraptions standing side by side, near where you are standing. They each have 4 wheels on them, made of some tar-like substance.

There is only one nearby dwelling, and it's the one you fought your way out of.

You feel your hands along the grooves at the top of the CONTRAPTION, and pry it apart. The side falls off, allowing you entrance. You smell around to determine if this is a TRAP, decide that it is safe, and climb inside.

You are now inside the CONTRAPTION. There's words all over the place, but you can't read, due to your BARBARIAN CLASS FEATURE. You're wondering what the hell you were planning on doing once you got in here.

There aren't any weapons in here!

You let out a gruff sound of displeasure in this activity, and get out of the contraption. Then you push it over onto its side, to show your displeasure with it. That'll teach it!

put axe in water to see if it makes a funny sound when it talks.

You let out a DEEP GIGGLE at the thought of attempting to drown your WAR AXE. That sure would be funny.

....unfortunately, there's no water around to do that with. There's some pouring down from the building above, but not enough to stick your AXE in.

Saddened by this turn of events, you listen to the AXE instead.

"Thawmus, what was that noise?"

"Big...shiny....metal....with wheels."

"Yeah, that's a car. What'd you do with it?"

"I went inside, could not find any weapons, tipped it over."

"Okay....that's ah....that's fine. Listen, you're going to need to find me somehow."

"Me no see you."

"Yeah...that's kinda the point. You can't see me, because I'm hundreds of miles away. I'm coming to find you. We need to meet up, so we can get you back to normal."

"Me not normal?"

"Yeah, like I said, when you get that spot of BRILLIANCE going on again, let me know. I think he's the only one who'll be of use to us. In the meantime, and I do hate to ask you to do this, since I'll be risking lives, I need you to tell me how many people you see right now."

"None."

"I'm hearing faint calls for help in the background."

"He die. I crush his chest"

"Oh...that's too bad. In any case, do you see a city around you?"

"No, just grass."

"Any other buildings?"

"One on the horizon."

"Okay...that's likely where you work. I want you to walk over to that other building, and go inside. If there's any people there, they are friends of yours. Just tell them your name, and have them call Romack on your AXE. Can you remember that?"

"Me think so...."

"Okay, off you go, now. And remember, no killing!"

"Me remember."

You slowly turn toward the other building. You hate traveling...but Romack wants you to go there.

What do you do?

Should we have a recap?

JKLantern

=>As we head the opposite way from the building, as it is obviously a dose of schmuck bait, let's have a recap.

Thawmus
07/21/2009, 20:16
Okay, recap time:

The game started out with Thawmus, a tech for a bank. After some silly stuff, him and his boss ended up in his office with the light off. He left, she ended up being killed. He came back, got blood on his hands, and came out. People called the police. In his panic to get out, he slammed a HIGHLIGHTER into a coworker's nose, and punched a Hispanic gentleman, then busted out of the place Kool-Aid Man style.

Afterward, he ran to his home, where he was met by a HOMICIDAL MANIAC, whom we later named Mick. Some sounds were heard at the door, which caused Thawmus to find a PACKAGE. Inside was a hat, which transformed into whatever hat Thawmus wanted to see. He put it on. He then was alerted to some news reports by his brother (whom we now refer to as Romack). The news reports said that Omaha was under quarantine, and nobody knew why. One important bit of info is that nobody is trying to get out. Other reports from other major cities say that some packages have been found on people's doorsteps. A connection may or may not exist. Romack seemed to know more, however. In particular, that the hats in the packages could transform people into fictional versions of themselves, sharing the same name.

Thawmus was then confronted by the Police, at which time he transformed. According to Romack, this is currently irreversible. Thawmus became his D&D Barbarian character. He then knocked the Officers out, and threw Mick through the wall of the BATHROOM, and pounded the tar out of him. Mick is not long for this world.

Upon getting outside, it appears that everyone outside of his apartment is gone, except for his workplace. There's nothing but grass between the two buildings, even though they are about 5 miles apart in a city.

MEANWHILE....

Al Caholic is the Hispanic gentleman that Thawmus punched at work. He wakes up, and helps the guy with a HIGHLIGHTER stuck up his nose. Not much is known about Al, except that his RESUME has an ITEM GLITCH with his SHOTGUN.

Al was all alone in the building with the worker, which was odd. You would think an EMT or the Police would still be there, but they weren't.

Somehow, the events that have occurred in both places are connected. Certain conclusions can probably be drawn at this point.

And since both Thawmus and Al are chronologically at the same point, I think we're going to call this the END of ACT I.

ACT II will begin later this week. I have D&D again tomorrow (maybe), and my tablet comes in tomorrow. So Thursday night, I'll be throwing up some drawings. I don't want to just go text adventure, because I feel that this is boring you guys, and that you enjoy the drawing adventure more. This'll allow me to take some of the sillier suggestions you guys keep throwing at me, and allow me to focus less on progressing the story, and more on progressing with what you give me.

Any comments or suggestions thus far?

Yeah, the thread could do with a little more exposure. I was thinking about not doing this in the Arcade forum, and I should have stuck with that. This isn't really a game, so it could have stayed in AR.

I honestly thought I was going to make this particular adventure much shorter, and start from scratch. And I still might. I'm learning all sorts of do's and don'ts from this.

Long story short: I didn't go to work yesterday, stayed home sick. Since I have all my stuff delivered at work, I didn't get my tablet until today. In any case, I'm going to try to throw something up tonight. But don't be surprised if I don't get anything up until tomorrow night. I'd rather use the weekend to get the game going again, anyways.

I've been practicing my drawing, but I don't know how much I can truly apply what I've learned yet. Some shapes may be less terribly drawn, but I really struggle with human figures, especially. I think I may have just increased the speed at which I create these terrible drawings, and not much else.

Are we on Al or Thawmus (the barbarian of course) or a third guy?????????????????

Are we on Al or Thawmus (the barbarian of course) or a third guy?????????????????

I haven't decided yet.

Honestly, with only 4-5 "Players" actually participating, I'm giving the dual character notion a second-guess.

Also, in reading, I noticed a significant switch once Thawmus (the barbarian) appeared. We fell away from comedy at a rapid pace, and instead went to action and...well...barbarism. I mean, Barbarians are funny, but they only do one brand of funny, and it gets old fast. You can convince them to drink gasoline and eat automobiles only so much before you're like, "Hey, this isn't funny anymore."

I'm also considering calling this a good experiment, and ending it here, and starting a new thread with a new game. Something where we focus on only one character for a good long while, keep focusing on it being silly and fun, not adding too much drama (which is immediately where I go with all things Thawmus :cross-eye), and keeping it more with your suggestions, instead of just waiting for whatever I want most.

What do you guys think?

JKLantern

I think we can salvage this one, although I'm inclined to agree with what you say about the Barbarian. However, I prefer to see that as a challenge for my own psychotic tendencies to overcome.

I think I feel that it's become too serious, more because this is Thawmus, than because it's the Barbarian version of him. Never should have done that. The past couple days, I've actually been imagining the "final battle" for the game already. That's not good. Not for something that should be silly and fun and based on reader input.

I'd really like to start a new one from scratch for a few reasons:

1. I want to establish a very basic and simple B&W style, so that I'm enabled to actually draw what you guys are asking for.

2. I want this to have more exposure. 2-3 suggestions per page is not good enough. For several reasons.

3. I don't want any of this based on other stuff. I want something original, that has nothing to do with any of my other fiction. (Or non-fiction...)

4. One of the reasons I feel this isn't gaining any new viewers, is because it continually switches between drawings, text, characters, time, etc.

5. If this one ends up going where I think it's gonna go, it's going to get very serious, very fast. Which gives me an idea for some silly fiction somewhere down the road, but this shouldn't be an MSPA.

The further adventures of Al Caholic, or some new character with a less punny name?

Either way, we'll eagerly await the new version.

I'll start the new thread, with the new beginning, tomorrow night. That'll give us the weekend to play around with it. And it'll be in AR.

Yay, invisible layers!

I've got a fun animation in mind for a particularly common GLITCH, that's going to be awesome.

I may need to set up a photobucket soon. My HCR album is gonna get full pretty fast at this rate.
