View Full Version : Heroclix Fantasy Hall of Highlights!

Welcome one and all to the Heroclix Fantasy Hall of Highlights!
I've been thinking back on my seasons in the HCFL and the FLE, and I realized that a lot of neat things have happened in the games I've played and read, and I realized that I've probably just missed as many cool things in games I haven't seen. To that end, I'm starting up what I hope will be a player supported highlight reel/hall of fame for the many games that go on.
I invite League players to submit highlights to the thread. It can be anything from that amazing critical hit (or terrible crit miss) to a superbly played game to an awesome story post. Whatever you think might be worthy of the HoH, go ahead and post! I hope that, with league participation, we can keep the Hall of Highlights alive. So don't be shy, and post some of the amazing goings-on around the leagues.
A suggested format for events posted to the Hall of Highlights:
Event Name: A catchy name for what happened
Match-Up: The teams involved (players and squads)
League: HCFL (League-1) or FLE (League-2)
Season: What season?
Quick Event Description: A couple sentences describing what happened and/or why it belongs in the Hall of Hightlights
Link(s) to Thread/Post: Give us a link to let everyone see it!
Here's a handy blank template to fill in with your submissions to the HoH!

I love this idea. Fantastic, DC!
Event Name: My first regular season game in the Fantasy League
Match-Up: Dredd's Judges versus Orko's GL Corps.
League: HCFL
Season: 2
Quick Event Description: In my first regular season match-up, the Judges were outmuscled against the GLs but had managed to hang in to the end. With the game on the line, the Judges need to hit Abin Sur for 4 clicks to win. Boon hits, Arwyn hits, leaving Hershey with only a 6 for the KO and win. She rolls a 2,2 and we end the season just behind Iceman for the playoffs.

Yeah this is an awesome idea!! I have like a few I can add...I'll add this one for now while I think of others. Had to do a little searching for this one...but I'll always remember it cuz of GQ's reaction
Event Name: "Mother of God" attack
Match-Up: Tanis11 vs Glen Quagmire
League: SBL Infinity
Season: Infinity Challenge set
Quick Event Description: It's one of those game changing moves. Going through the game I was having some pretty bad rolls...even after the game changing attack, I was still rolling bad but somehow still won. But the game changing attack did allow me to win. Anyways, I was down on points, rolling horrible and on my Turn 10B, I decided to TK Blizzard to Running Shot/Pulse Wave...keep in mind, he only does 1 damage. So I throw Blizzard in the middle of of like 5 of his guys...and get boxcars. I KO two of his figs and deal a total of 13 clicks of damage from lil ole Blizzard. Glen's first words to that attack...."Mother of God" Made me laugh pretty hard. ;)

Very cool idea, DC. And since somebody has to do it, I'll take the heat.
Event Name: The Infamous Stepp-Out
Match-Up: JSA vs Exiles
League: HCFL
Season: Season 1 Super Bowl
Quick Event Description: Poor Stepp got more than his share of ribbing for this tactical retreat, taken back in the days when Soaring was legal. In truth, this was a hard-fought, very close Super Bowl, likely the most exciting the HCFL has ever had. Plus, it's a win for DC, so what's not to like?

Match-Up: mbauer's Heroes For Hire vs. DarkCorsair's Defenders
League: HCFL
Season: 4
Quick Event Description: A tough map draw has left the H4H struggling to deal with the Silver Surfer, who is dancing across rooftops. When he finally does settle down, it's only to deliver a critical hit energy explosion that wipes out 4 members of the H4H in a single shot.

Amazing idea, my friend! It brings some refreshing thoughts on what has happened around here. It even might be a great advertising for bringing new players to our leagues, when they see how much fun we're having here!
I'll start with...
Event Name: The Debut!
Match-Up: Krueger666's BPRD vs Juggernut's HYDRA
League: HCFL
Season: Season 4 (I believe...)
Quick Event Description: It was my first time (and we all know how first times are sometimes difficult! :knockedou). I was invited to the league at the very last moment, so I had to draft Indy. Not the strongest figures available and certainly not the ones I know most. So, considering my passion for heavy-metal (and satanic liaisons...) I had to go with a team from the depths of Hell - aptly named The Hell Patrol - The BPRD. I had no great faith on them, but they proved me wrong. Went 5-1 on the first season and got knocked off in playoff round 2! A great season!
I admit I was very anxious and excited with the prospect of joining the league and to play my first PbP game. It was a great experience, Jugg was (is) a great sportsman and the game went great for the Hell Horde. After the game was over, I felt very satisfied to be enrolled on this amazing adventure. Still am!
Game highlight: Turn 10b) when Capt "Bad" Daimio Energy Exploded the Great Arena BFC! A doubles (5, 5 - Critical Hit from BFC) shot was made against 2 adjacent figures and shrapnel spread to everyone around. 6 figures were hit with knock back involved, for a total of 16 (!!!!) damage and 2 KO's. Hell's fires were scorching on that one! :devious:

More to come, when I get the cance to look at my previous games!
Rep will come to everyone who brings forth an highlight on a game vs the BPRD! ;)
Doombot 3.1
08/15/2009, 16:15
Event name: The power of sheer dumb luck
Match-up: Melkhor's Legion of the Unliving versus Doombot 3.1's Ultimates
League: HCFL
Season: 4
Basically, we drew the Four Corners map, which gave a huge advantage to the Legion of the Unliving's Captain Marvel and his running shot. The BFC was Poor Teamwork, which negated the Ultimates' TK (Dr. Spectrum). Plus, I made a number of various mistakes.
It should have ended with the Ultimates getting slaughtered. And for the first half of the game, things played out exactly that way.
But, then, Captain Marvel crit missed.
The turn after that, Nick Fury outwitted CM's damage-reducer power, and Hawkeye hits him with a crit hit.
Then CM pushes ... and crit missed again!
In the end, Nick KO'd Captain Marvel, and the Ultimates eked out a victory by 4 points.

I was so mad about that map draw. I really thought I had a shot at taking down the Defenders until I saw that map. Sadly, I have another "Mbauers gets beaten by the Defenders" to add to this (great idea for a thread, btw :p).
Event Name: Moondragon's Hail Mary causes Doom! to loses two matches.*
Match-Up: Dark Corsair's Defenders vs Mbauers' Doom!
League: HCFL
Season: 5, Game 4
Quick Event Description: Taken from the turn recap: "Moondragon targets Doom with Psychic Blast. 7 vs 20. Somehow, she pulls off the needed 12, and Doom is hit for 3 PB clicks."
Link(s) to Thread/Post: http://hcrealms.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4209436&postcount=28
* I'm not saying I for sure would have won, but the game was very close until the crit hit (when a crit hit was needed) psychic blast on Doom. Also, since Doom was injured I had to sit him out the following game vs the Skrulls, where Doom's Lord of Latveria would have been invaluable against Ms. Skrullvel. Of course, WITHOUT Doom I pretty much could do nothing against her.
So yeah, one Hail Mary shot solidified two losses for Doom. Not cool. :disappointed:

True, and I'm happy about that , but since I am the number 1 seed I don't mind stating that I think SoS is overvalued in the current calculation. The Skrulls are 5-1 and beat me head to head, so they should be ranked higher than me.
*psst* Don't tell Doom I said that.

Doom already knows and is very, very disappointed in you. :disappointed:
I'm pretty pleased with the final seeding. I look at some of the 4 vs 5 matchups in brackets and think they do a good job of rating teams. For instance, BPRD vs GotG was perhaps the closest match of the first round, and those teams are ranked right next to each other. JoH's SSoSV only had a 3-3 record, but they received a strong ranking from SoS, and their performance against the Horsemen does nothing to undercut that ranking.
I agree that SoS would be better served with more balanced schedules and less extreme modifiers, which is why I think TVK's proposed schedule next season will fix most of the concerns we may have had this season.
Event Name: A bolt of lightning...but not how you would have expected it.
Match-Up: bear42's JSA vs. vicious x's Sinestro Corps
League: FLE
Season: 1, Game 4
Quick Event Description: JSA comes in 3-0 while the Corps comes in 0-3. An early shot on Kid Shazam put him in no man's land on his dial. Then Superman crit misses on a push and the JSA was down. Even with Sandman's PC, it seemed they could only roll a 5. Then in an act of desparation, Kid Shazam pushes to quake and it get's PCed to a critical miss. After the smoke clears and 2 clicks later, Captain Marvel shows up to clear the battle field.

Event Name: Easiest Playoffs Ever
Match-Up: SHIELD vs. Infinity Watch, Avengers West Coast, and Latveria
League: FLE
Season: 1, Marvel Playoff Games involving SHIELD
Quick Event Description: Going into the First Season of the FLE Playoffs, SHIELD was ranked third overall, and faced tough competition. However, between the three playoff games they were in, the team only played a total of 10 turns.
Game 1 ended early when the Infinity Watch conceded the game after SHIELD Knocked Out all 8 of Adam Warlocks clicks in a single turn in the interest of avoiding injuries going into the next round.
Game 2 ended early due to a forfeit by the WCA for unspecified reasons.
Game 3 never got off the ground - after a single turn by SHIELD, Latveria never made a move, disqualifying itself when the game timed out.
Of course, showing how some things are just too good to be true, SHIELD then went to the FLE Superbowl and promptly got its butt kicked by the JSA.

Event Name: Round 1 Playoff Game
Match-Up: Doombot 3.1's Checkmate vs my SSoSV
League: FLE
Season: First
Quick Event Description: Doombot brought Stealthy Supes and friends and I had upgraded the Humanite to his AA form. By the end of the battle I had taken out every but Supes and our storyposting was reflecting off each other. I had one shot but just came up a little short. Had I succeeded, I would have faced the LOA next round, who Maxwell Lord hired in revenge for the Humanite setting Superman free of his control!

[QUOTE=theanalogkid;4302154]Event Name: IMPERIOUS Wrecked
Match-Up: Lethal Legion v. Invaders (Playoff Round 1)
League: League 1
Season: 5
Quick Event Description: After 2 very long, rough seasons the heavily favored Invaders face off against a World Champion player and his Lethal Legion. After a couple of early mistakes the Legion take out Captain America, forcing the Invaders to try to run the Legions ranged gauntlet to score a hit. Namor takes down Deathbird quite handily, but is stranded in enemy territory. Nick and Winter Soldier must slog across open terrain to back up their ally. Before the soldiers could make it to the rooftops Speed Demon flurries and scores a critical hit dropping the Prince of Atlantis. By the time Winter Soldier and Nick could affect the rooftops a strategically placed Con Artist insured that the Invaders could not take down a higher figure. In the last round Winter Soldier went for one more KO and rolled a crit miss on the Con Artist.

Event Name: No One Left to Fear
Match-Up: Fearsome Five v. Sinestro Corps (PreSeason Round 1)
League: League 2 (now known as FLE)
Season: 1
Quick Event Description: These two teams were capable of instilling great fear on their enemies. Which one was the most feared? Apparently, both...or none. At the last round (15th), the last Fearsome Five standing, a weak Dr Light (on his last click) decided to go out in a blaze of (un)glory, with a range combat attack on Kyle Rayner, Parallax's new vessel, and the last Sinestro Corps standing. 6 vs 16, he needed a 10 and rolled it (6,4) KOing Kyle while pushing himself to the KO. Both teams were entirely KOed this game, proving that the only thing you really need to Fear, is Fear Itself.

Event Name: Advent of the Tanis curse
Match-Up: Tanis11's JLA vs Stepper79's JSA
League: League 1
Season: 2
Quick Event Description: As it seems quite often, I was pretty much losing the game, behind on quite a bit of points. On turn 9, though I made the light hearted comment of cursing Stepper...little did I know the ramifications of it....it didn't happen immediately till the clutch turn of Turn 13 when he had Jade RCE Hal needing a 10, but gets a crit miss instead. Then on my turn 15, Hal ends up RCE crit hitting her and KO'ing and winning the game. Also little did I know..this was only the beginning of the Tanis curse! bum Bum BUM!

We should have this one stickied. :)
Event: mbauers' Fantasy League Invitational, fall 2006
Match-up: GlenQuagmire vs. dbauers, 300 pts constructed w/ pre-selected BFCs and special objects
Well, we did our level best to nerf each other before the game started, with Inertial Interference Field, Atlantis rising and the Aerial Baffler all in play. And it would have taken a lot of slow down the figures we had: my Omni-Man backed up by two PCers and his Motorbike Hawkeye, T-Bolted loaded with Armor Piercing. Came down to Omni-Man vs. Dr. Mid-Nite, DR Storm and R Scarlet Witch (FF). DB needed a Mid-Nite breakaway and two successful attacks to KO Omni-Man on the last round of the game. I was betting he wouldn't get all three. I ... was wrong.

Thinking about it, I've had some nailbiter matches with Tanis. Here is the first of two close matches between us. (Not gonna post the one from Season 4 where I crit missed on my Nova Blast and he proceeded to mop the floor with me. :cheeky: )
Event Name: mbauers' Fantasy League Tourney Championship
Match-Up: Tanis's "Da Squirrel Nutz vs CurBludgeon's Lactose Tolerance"
League: non-canonical tournament
Season: December 2006
Quick Event Description: This was from one of two tourneys for HCFLers organized by mbauers. Tanis ran a Ch'p-centric GL tank swarm to face my Emerald Empress and assorted power pieces squad. The biggest blow took place in Turn 2B, where Tanis's clever positioning forced me to push Emerald Empress to Nova Blast...with no PC. With 6 targets in range and needing a 6 to hit 4 of them and 7 to hit all, Empress rolled...4+3.
But Tanis played it cagily, with both V Echo and LE Roy Harper out of the blast's range (told ya it was a swarm team), and proceeded to demolish everybody on my team with the exception of LE Sue Storm (FF), whose high defenses permitted her to mop up most of his team. Really close match.

Just how many Shape Change rolls came up 5 or 6? I don't know. The count is still going. Maybe a thousand. :disappointed:

He managed to defeat the Female Furies literally singlehandedly in a savage and chaotic melee for the ages.

Lol, the running tally of all leagues is arKILLo: 3 H&C: 0.
I'd like to nominate our current game Havok. Mimic the Undeniable having megahot rolls against the JLI, 3 crits and an 11 rolled by turn 4:

Tack on another 11 in turn 5, this is the beastly Mimic I fell in love with in Exiles. :)
