I have everyone pissed off at me now for simply pointing out that they were not playing by rules and telling them how wizkids says it should be played. What the hell do you do now. I've tried to do the right thing without making a big deal of things and keep the game fun but they see it as me just being difficult. Even though I am just a player when I go there, its a little discouraging when the store owner wont even acknowledge the rules. She says its her store, she will do what she wants to do. period. I guess all I can do is suck it up and go with the flow, even if it is wrong. If you come to Rapid City and play clix at Storyteller , then I would be prepared for a big disapointment.

When in Rome . . . . it seems they have a way of playing that they are used to and enjoy, a store owner is naturally going to go with what pleases the majority of their patrons, looks like you need to go with the flow or play somewhere else. The rules were extremely vague for a long time - pre update era, so a lot of people began playing a certain way, based on their own interpretations of what was, a poorly written first set of rules. Keep that in mind when judging these people. If they've got something going they all enjoy then why should they change? It's every consumers right to have fun with what they purchase, whether or not that is "official" fun is irrelevant.
Yeah, I've had experiences like this.
Basically the presiding Judge is the 'boss'. And they can always say 'welp, then it's a house rule'

Not to bud in again, but I think of my own experience with Overpower - I enjoyed the game 10 times more before I found out how to play LOL. Once my group started playing the "official" way, the game lost something and had one foot in the grave for us. These people seem to want to hang on to what they enjoy - let it be, it is their "house"
I'm the same, Used to play the HECk out of D&D and Vampire, untill I started playing in large public groups( like tournies) and then I lost interest once the "real"rules where enforced. It's all a matter of what you like.
If a large group that plays together regularly has thier own set of rules, so what? almost ALL role playing games are played differently at different places. the rules books are mostly a starting point and reference, not a be all and end all of answers. ( and yes, I consider minature and card games a form of role playing, but that's just me.)

I am talking mainly about Marquee events. It doesnt really matter how we play any other time to me. I think that these events should be run by official rules, not a bunch of malarky house rules. Anyway, Im only venting because ignorance rules supreme here and I can't fight the crowd because Im outnumbered. Dont get me wrong though, I do love playing this game, which is why I am just going to go with the flow.
thanks for viewing my gripes.

In the case of Marquees, they MUST play by standard rules, NO house rules allowed. If that is the case, you should report the venue and judge to Wizkids.
Other than Marquees though, the judge has every right to have house rules. So basically, play by them or find another venue.

speedks.....
what house rules were they using? i can understand if they're way out there, like TK allows people to fly and such.....
but if it's only no dupes or no firelords, that'll probably save you in the long run of people hating you anyway.
and yeah, marquee's should be run with only official rules, which is ok, since they're all sealed boosters anyway.
