Superman's Defense Value is an 18.
On my opponent's turn he perplexes superman's defense from 18 to 17.
On my turn I perplex it back to an 18.
On his turn he uses Perplex on someone other than Superman.
Is Superman's defense at that point an 18 or a 19?

Thanks!

Think of perplex as a +/- modifier.

You and your opponents modifiers essentially "cancel" each other out (18+1-1=18)

If he no longer uses his perplex on that figure, your +1 is still effective until your turn. (18+1=19)

Until you get a turn and change the target of perplex, its still applied.

But in this scenario:

Superman's Defense Value is an 18.
On my turn I perplex superman's defense from 18 to 19.
My opponent attacks doing 4 damage and superman's base defense value i now a 16. It's not a 17 because i had perplexed it. Once he takes the damage the modifier bonus goes away.

So that's where my original question gets sticky.

I'm not seeing how that's related to the original question which made no mention of damage.

What you say here is correct. The Perplex is nullified when the target heals or is hurt, so it is no longer in play.

It's clear where the gameplay mistake was made - your opponent somehow injured Superman!

This is obviously impossible - he is Superman.

There are several options:

1) Your opponent is cheating.
2) Your opponent is Doomsday.
3) There is kryptonite under the battlefield map.
4) You have accidentally played Bizarro.
5) Some combination of the above.

Please confirm which of these is the case and demand a rematch.

... oh, and Harpua is right.

you forgot the magic crow, the magic...

so maybe the opponent is a demon or witch in disguise.

I suggest not playing ever again with him...

If this:

Player A Turn 1: Perplex Superman's Defense -1. (Defense now 17)

Player B Turn 1: Perplex Superman's Defense +1. (Defense now 18)

Player A Turn 2: At this point Superman's defense is 19. Unless he perplexes it back down to 18, it will remain this way until the beginning of player B's turn 2.

...is what your saying, then yes, that's correct.
