View Full Version : Crimson Skies: HeroClix perspective
I know this game-world well. I love it. And I look forward to it. I play-tested the Rallpartha version a couple years ago, and it was wighty clumsy compared to the beauty that is clix.
My question for you all, is, as a Heroclix gamer, are you considering buying it? I don't collect Mechwarrior and only collect MageKnight Orcs, but I could see myself getting equally addicted to Crimson Skies.
What about everyone else?
Only if they had planes that you could modify to be the DC Blackhawks.....
Am I right about their name?

I'm considering it. It depends on my financial situation when it comes out - if the DC set is coming out right after CS (I seriously doubt anything but CS will come out in May, but I could be wrong) I'll probably save my money.
I'll probably play it like I play Dungeons - no serious attempt to get a full set, just getting enough pieces to have fun with and field a decent team.
I have no interest in this whatsoever. In fact, it just makes me mad because it now means there is no possibility of a DC expansion until June.
if its 10 bucks a booster i an't goin near um
I think crimson skies is gonna rock and I will definately play it. I have always loved planes since I was a kid, can't wait!

You already know the answer kemosabe. I'm not putting a dime into this one if the le's are solid gold.
Well, maybe if they're solid gold.

OK, don't forget that Crimson Skies won't be a collectible game, and that it will be sold in preset boxes, team-based. So it won't be expensive, and IMHO, it looks very promising. I'll definitely give it a try.

I'm intrigued by the notion that the pilots/aces can duke it out like HeroClix and the planes can duel it out like vehicles, but that the pilot/ace can enhance the characteristics of his plane.
The maneuver selection game mechanics sounds like it was inspired by one of the better flying game mechanics I've seen (now which game was it ? WWI flying aces, limited selection of maneuvers by plane, three-D flying stands and planes on alligator clips).
I'll spend enough to read the rules and maybe try the game once or twice with friends.
Unless I read the press release wrong, Crimson Skies is going to be collectible. The will sell preset packs of planes based on faction, but if you want the pilots, you buy boosters that come with two Aces and their planes. Am I reading this wrong?
I have seen an ace figure and a plane - I assume they were promos...
I have no intention of collecting it, although I would play in a Marquee or something if there was no Heroclix to play at the time.
It is of more interest to me than Mage Knight (which is of no interest to me at all), but of less interest to me than
Mechwarrior DA.
I wish the ace figures were Heroclix scale, but the one I saw was WAY bigger.
I think it might catch on with eg more Wargame orientated clubs - where it loses out to MWDA, Heroclix, and even MK, is that the generic game world is not realy that "known". So, a game for fanatics and hard core gamers, but not the general public.
Stick with Heroclix, people. You know it makes sense !

No, Tick, you'll indeed have to buy aces separately. But they won't be in randomly set boosters: you'll know what you buy. That won't be a collectible game, so I assume buying the figs of a single faction won't be that expensive. Why wouldn't we give it a try? After all, we know WK know how to make games...

Looks very interesting. I kind of wish it were WWI Biplanes & Triplanes, but it looks very good none the less.
It depends on my money situation, but I think I wiil end up getting it.
I am pretty sure the game will be fun. MY problem is that with all the availabel licencing, why a period based clix about planes? I mean, if they are trying to get heavy sales, this ay not be the best option. Think of the following list and think of the potential for money if they were able to acquire licenses (granted it is a big if but I can't see why the licensing company wouldn't jump on board for such a big hit...now if Crimson Skies fails, it will make WK look bad in the eyes of a "big" company)
Starcraft, Warcraft
Star Wars (ships or heroclix style or both)
Transformers
GiJoe
Magic the Gathering
Shadowrun/Cyberpunk genre
MORE MARVEL/DC!!!
Again, I am sure that Crimson Skies will be a fun game, I just doubt most people will give it a fair chance. Especially those unfamiliar with clix in the first place. I think a really cool SW clix would have been the best bet then maybe after the seond expansion then release Crimson Skies. Oh well.
I'll prob be picking a handful up.

If there isn't some random aspect of it, why call it a "collectible miniatures game"?

Remember that Wizkids are the creative people who used to work for FASA. Battletech and Crimson Skies were both FASA games. Mech Warrior is just the clix version of Battle Tech. Our friends at Wizkids kept the rights to both Battletech and Crimson Skies when they left the old company and formed the current company.
Crimson Skies will not have any impact on the release date of a DC set anymore than Mage Knight of Mech Warrior do. If it looks cool, I'll play it. Heroclix is still my favorite game but I have some Dungeons stuff and play that as well.
I hope the pilots are in scale with the other clix. I always need more bits for my Mods!
I believe that WK obtained the rights to several FASA properties after FASA went bellyup, not before. Not that it matters.

I'll play Crimson Skies when the ultra-rare, super-unique, LE X-Wing & Tie Fighter models come out with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader as their pilots!

Collectible doesn't have to mean random. Comic books are collectible, but you know what you're buying when you get them.
